I have an ocean blue 996.1 with aero, with cable throttle and LSD. Bought it nearly 20 years ago when prices were super low, with only 25k miles to boot! I recently picked up a 997 GT3 RS and the plan was to sell the 996 (even though I didn’t want to), so my wife and son said keep it, because we all love it so much. I decided to hang onto it until my son is ready to take ownership. Love the collection mate, 996s forever! Cheers from SF, USA.
@@SF_NativeChuffed to hear she’s a keeper. You’ll regret selling it & it’ll also appreciate from here on in. Made up at the prospect for your son. Even if early on, he wants a slammed Yaris with a straight pipe and an insane music system, in time what he’ll want is a classic 911. Oh my word, you almost got me seriously misty, talking about the 90s. I’m a lot older so I was in my first professional job through the 90s. I didn’t enjoy it at the time the way I’d enjoyed the late 70s, early 80s (I guess equivalent to your 90s, early noughties). I got to this choice by a combination of ruling out the 991/922 as too big for me. Earlier platform 911s are just insane prices. I preferred the 996 because I am concerned about how readily onboard tech can be deliberately exploited by the authorities. Imo there’s an agenda to restrict our customary freedoms. 997 is a little too modern in that regard. 996.1 I found marginally less good looking than the .2. I was lucky to come across what might be one of the lowest miles (12k) of the limited run of 1,963 examples. Stored in a dust free, cool & dark garage, it feels like a Time Machine, taking us back 20 years. After agreeing the price, I elected to splash out on PCCM+ and a new, original equipment Porsche Switchable Exhaust. It looks & drives like new and it’s now got a huge spec. Currently an owner of a 991gt3rs, 430 scuderia and 3 996....turbo, 4.0 built c2, and a cabriolet c2. The 996's cover all the bases of a car enthusiast for me
@RollingSlowMedia appreciate it! Definitely the 4.0 c2, it has the full bbi suspension treatment on kw clubsports. The performance is very attainable on the streets vs the 991gt3rs and its much more dialed in than my late 997gt3. My biggest gripe is the exhaust note, which is really raspy. Fabspeed longtube headers and x pipe is the current configuration,I will try a non x pipe setup next. The turbo is second on k24 billets, and the 996 cab is last when I just need a quiet ride with all the 911 driving dynamics(all oem for now) On another note, I recently purchased an sls amg but was so disappointed, that I sold it within a couple weeks. Porsches and ferraris have hit the spot consistently.
@danstimelessclassics5899 it definitely is! Power feels like 95% of my 997gt3 but a better torque curve but short of the mezgers exhaust note and top end. If I were to build it again I wouldn't forget the x51 cams and a ported head
