Hi Don! Grateful to hear your hearing aid/tinnitus and walking news. Husband and I have had a morning walk ritual for many years. We also pick up garbage. I call it my "church" time. It's a gift!!
Thank you for the video. I walked down to the port every morning at sunrise when I was there last year. This year I stayed at the other end of town. Easy access to this beach is the main reason for me to prefer this end of town.
Don, thank you SO much for sharing this video with us. I am VERY pleased that the hearing aids are helping you with the tinnitus and glad to see you are beginning to enjoy your walks on the beach. Your “down home style” videos are such a breath of fresh air as they allow the viewer to live their lives vicariously through you. Great idea about picking up trash. While I still haven’t convinced my wife to explore Ecuador yet, we are leaving for a month long stay in Mazatlan, Mexico on Jan. 3rd. I had promised her we’d go wherever she liked to celebrate the three big events in her life the last few months: Turning 65 years old, retiring, and celebrating becoming a grandmother (Nana) for the 4th time. May you have a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year!
What a wonderful place Don! , The breeze from the ocean, the sound of the waves and not least, the thoughts, the freedom... This is life dear Don... Please enjoy yourself and, take care!!!
You're looking well, Don. Some of us suggested exercise several years ago, you scoffed at the idea. Glad you are enjoying it. Also glad your hearing treatment is helping. I have had tinnitus for years, ringing like the day after a rock concert.
Thank you, Don! You are awaking my Ecuador retirement fantasy that has been hibernating since the narco issues 😊 I’m imaging a building a smallish house that could operate off grid solar (inspired by your video a while back showcasing the couple who built the home - near Montecristi?).
Getting that early morning sunlight exposure and movement is very beneficial for our mental and physical wellbeing. In addition, being around other positive feeling people also helps. I encouraged you to record all the positive impacts you are producing for yourself with your new early morning regiment. Getting that early morning sunlight exposure on our skin and eyes is so good for us in so many ways, some we can’t comprehend or understand. We need some direct sunlight exposure to thrive. I am happy you are doing better.
Inspiring! Thanks for sharing your positive progress . I walk in a swimming pool . Takes a lot of pressure off my knees . Ill add another 5 minutes in your honour tomorrow .
Hi Don. I’m so glad you are feeling better. I missed your videos. I love your honest outlook on Ecuador. My husband and I are from the USA. We visit Ecuador frequently. We have family outside of Cuenca and a nephew in Quito. We have been wanting to explore the coast but have been hesitant due to the crime. Maybe we will see you some day. Thanks again for your videos!
Hola Don! Glad to hear that the hearing aid is helping the tinnitus. Keep on moving - remember that old sharks keep alive as long as they move.😉- Abrazos - Keep safe.
Couple other ideas for your tinitius Cover your ears with both palms of your hand ; once in place, push in like you are using a plunger on your toilet, push in- then out, in and out 5 times. Then hold your nose and blow lightly to fill up our cheeks, hold for about 5 seconds, do it twice Now take your head and push on your forehead forcing your head as far back as possible, rotate your head while back there from side to side, now return to normal I hear a strong hissing in my ears with my face looking down but when I move my head way back it dissapears Try sleeping without a pillow so your head will not be pushed forward
Good to see you up and around... people always act like tinnitus isn't a big deal... I just walk over and turn the radio to static and up , sit and see how long till they shut it off.... stay safe don all the best...
It's a litle high right now but it's normal for this time of year. As I'm writing this, right now at 07:35, it's 77f and 72% humidity. It didn't feel that high for me this morning.
Did you see the Zumba class at the beach square by all the restaurants? Every morning at 6am they would start and I could hear the music from across the street in my hotel room.
Hello Don, what a wonderful routine and so healthy 😊. A couple of times in the video I noticed a man with a metal detector. What in the world is he looking? Hidden treasures?
Walking is key Don but like you said...don't overdo it. How far are you walking now? Do you have a certain goal you want to reach? I am just curious. I have so-so knees so like you, don't care for steps. Since you and George are bringing trash bags to pick up trash maybe others will follow your lead. Take care and keep us updated.
I used to walk all the way to the rocks (port), which is about 1 mile. So that would be two miles a day for me. I did that almost daily the first year I was here but stopped because of the rash problems on my legs and I got lazy. Then I started getting fat. So now I'm just going till I get tired, then turn around. I make it a little further each day. I should make the way some day next week.
@DonShader - I am walking just a half-mile a day now because of my knees. 1/4 mile each way. My knees are slowly getting better so I am hoping to reach a mile soon. Overall the walking has helped me in many ways. So...keep on walking Don. 😀👍
Thanks for the morning walk. I love the idea of walking on the beach before the crowds and the heat of the day. I remember when I used to play tennis and racquetball at 6:00 a.m. I would give myself quite the workout and then return home, shower and dress, and it would be only 8:00 or 8:30 in the morning and I had already done so much. It was invigorating and it felt good psychologically too. This is exactly the kind of thing I would like to do in my retirement in Ecuador - well, not tennis any longer, alas, but just to go out for a walk in the fresh air before I start the rest of my day. I think it feels almost as if I would be extending the day from 24 to 25 hours. And it’s good for body and soul alike.. Also, I love the idea that you would be helping to clean up the beach once in a while. Whoever says that expats don’t contribute to the communities in which they live is dead wrong. Oh, sure, there are always exceptions, but I just don’t think most people would put themselves through the ordeal of moving abroad only then to remain in isolation and have nothing to do with their community. At the very least, they would do some shopping, support local businesses, and have a few brief chats now and then with the local residents. You could probably start a beach-walking meetup group in Manta and perhaps have eight or ten or twelve people participate in a walk a few times per week. On the other hand, though, you might prefer having it more peaceful and easy-going. At least I think that would be my preference. I generally like it quiet in the morning, and especially in Manta, where street noise is a real thing, another benefit of your venturing out early is that you might escape much of the noise and hustle and bustle of the city on business days. -J
Don, I’m so glad the hearing aids are helping with the tinnitus. That has to help you feel better! The walk was so relaxing. Thanks for sharing it with us. Hope 2025 is a better year!🎉🎉🎉
Hi Jeff, I prefer the solitude. I get recognized occasionaly while down there and have short chit-chats. The problem with going with a group is getting people to get up and get going on a consistent basis. I hate nothing more than waiting for someone else to show up just because they "slept in." One or two people is nice but I still would rather be walking with Stella, otherwise by myself is better for me.
@@DonShader, I’m with you on this one. Organizing a walking meetup group sounds good on paper - well, not even then really - but I prefer a quiet walk either on my own or perhaps with one or two friends (at the most) who understand that they need not fill up every single minute with constant chit-chat. And I say this as someone who values the (lost) art of conversation. I’m a very social person, and when I’m in the mood, I enjoy talking with others. But who doesn’t; want at least a little time to themselves? Barbara and I take occasional walks around the lake (in front of the house), and it’s very pleasant indeed. And we pass others along the way, or others pass us, and sometimes people are out walking their dogs. And we may say, “Good morning,” in passing, or we may just walk on by, but even though other people are out and about, it still feels as if we have the place to ourselves. Most people are considerate.
I really liked this beach walk. I'm near 81 and wish I could be out there walking. You look great
Thank you so much!

T-shirts! I just came back from my walk, took off my gloves, down jacket so I can write comments 😂 all the best for you 👋🎄🏖
Looking good, Don. Good color, relaxed. That's so interesting about the tinnitus. Glad that you are having positive results. Happy Holidays.

Awesome view of the ocean. The morning walk looks great.
Wonderful video, Don! Thank you for uploading, and that's super nice of you guys for the clean-up efforts you'll do on the beach.

you'll knock off 50#.,,,,,too. You go!!! little by little. Love trash bag idea.
Hey Don , youre looking and sounding much better . Stay positive ! P.S. stairs are great exercise …
Yes but boy do they hurt.
Hope you had a good Christmas! Glad to see you doing the walking.

When we walk the beach, we like to be right at the waterline, barefoot. Feels the best.
Looks like Pimentel Beach , a lot of similarities.
Good for you! I need to do the same, get up early and go for a walk every day. How is the humidity in Manta now?

Hello Don, what a wonderful routine and so healthy 😊. A couple of times in the video I noticed a man with a metal detector. What in the world is he looking? Hidden treasures?
Oh yeah, they find jewelry, coins, and just about anything else that people can inadvertantly drop while on the beach.
Don, can you film some interaction with the natives - that language communication would be muy interesante.
It would be better to wear a big brim hat...sun can get pretty intense near the equator! Best to avoid skin cancer.
Whats the brand name and model of the hearing aids
They are Signia but I don't know the model number because the pair I have right now are temporary.
Are you sure it's the showers helping?? Fleas are notoriously lazy. At 6:00 in the morning they are probably still sleeping.
