Excellent breakdown of the discotek Digimon season 1 release, great to see what’s on it & how good it looks. Hopefully a UK distributor can pick it up for a release here. I had also read about the issue with ep 39 when during the scene as they are about to go back to the digital world it cuts back to an earlier scene in that ep with them defeating VenomMyotismon which shouldn’t be there. Likewise the sudden ending to ep 43, which to me isn’t a deal breaker if it’s just the end credits been cut slightly but the error in ep 39 if it does exist is a shame so would be good to have confirmation either way.
That 39 error is likely due to the fact they wanted to remove the rating bug that appears at the start as the Japanese version showed that scene as a prologue it wouldn't match to the dub.
I read online that some of the episodes have issues with not fully playing the credits. Also, I read that in episode 39 a different episode scene gets played when it's not supposed to. A battle scene from a different episode involving VenomMyotismon gets inserted to an unrelated scene. Can you confirm any of these issues? Aside from that quality looks amazing. Great breakdown.
Hi ya, if you can point me in the direction of where you read about these, so I can (hopefully) have some more details to work with to investigate accordingly, I'd be happy to look into these when I can 👍
@@jeraffemy I can't post links but I gathered this information from a Twitter post and a Digimon Forum post. Basically a post on that forum says that the ending credits for the episode titled "Playing Games" don't finish and abruptly jumps to the following episode "Trash day". As for the episode that plays an incorrect scene you can supposedly find it on Disc 3 Episode 39. It's a scene where the destined are holding out their digivice and pointing at the digital world; there's allegedly a scene from the Venommyotismon vs Wargreymon fight that plays when the digi destined are holding out their digivices but that fight scene is not supposed to play there.
Thanks for asking about the ep 39 editing error, I had read the same as well. Would be nice to have confirmation from an honest source although I don’t know why someone would make it up if it wasn’t there.
Hi there, hope all is well. (First of all, apologies for the delay in responding. Have been pretty ill the past few weeks and am finally starting to get back on my feet.) So I've (finally) had a chance to look into both of these on my copy of the Blu-ray. Here's my findings and my take on them - With regard to the bit you mentioned in episode 39. While I've not watched the entire episode yet, I skimmed through to look for the part you mentioned. I can confirm there is some footage as you describe that comes on screen which appears to be of a battle from a different scene. When it comes to a time code as a point of reference, the footage comes in (according to the overall disc runtime my hardware displays) at 3:43:55 and is on screen until 3:44:00/01. (Time code is written as Hour|mins|secs, for reference.) When it comes to the audio, (to my ears) it's still just the scene from episode 39 playing specifically, so there's no additional sound that disrupts the audio. (To add to this, in doing a bit of additional research, it appears the footage that's not on screen is a wide cutaway/birds eye view demonstrating how high the light is extending into the sky.) Watching this bit over a few times, while admittedly it is annoying it's there and it is very out of context for what happening in the scene at the time, for me this is not a deal breaker. It's around 5/6 seconds of footage that you certainly can't not notice when it appears, but it isn't (for want of a better phrase) a climactic moment. Again, it's annoying it's there, yes - especially given all the effort the Discotek Media team clearly put into this great release - but to me (with all the above in mind and factoring in I skimmed through the episode to find it,) this is a tiny little anomaly that doesn't detract from the overall viewing experience. It very much feels like a 'wait, what was that?' question to yourself for a few moments, before returning to the actual scene and you'll forget about it shortly after. That's how inconsequential it feels to me in the grand scheme of things. I fully appreciate some people may feel differently or perhaps will disagree, but that's my honest take and feelings on it. And as for the ending credits in episode 43 "Playing Games" (on disc 4), I can confirm it does jump to the next episode before it's entirely played out. But it's literally just a couple of seconds at the end of it. To try and describe it, in full vocal/opening version of the theme song, at the very end you hear the voice quickly say "digimon" and then the song is finished. It's essentially that very quick moment that's missing. (Obviously the ending credits version is an instrumental, but that's the easiest way to describe it.) Again, not a deal breaker for me. But that occurrence is there, yes. Hope that helps and if you have any other questions do let me know and I'll do my best to get back to you as quickly as possible.
I'm need buying this new Blu ray and I'm cant why because I'm live from united Kingdom I'm checking eBay photo Blu ray cover says region A and my Blu ray player says region B both can't together won't worked as well 😭😭😭 and I'm have old DVDs boxset is region 1 I'm have use DVD player as free regions why I'm not happy because this English dub with no subtitles because poor me be deaf as well I'm really need on subtitles and Manga Entertainment really cruel too because this really did bad copying same picture DVD two same this no subtitles again grrr and I'm have one old DVD I'm really love digimon the movie really good and thank you for your nice video mate ❤
Thank you for watching~! 🙂 Yeah, it's a north American Region A Blu-ray so it won't work on a regular UK player. I'm honestly not sure if a UK release will be in the works from a distributor over here or not. I'd love to see it happen. (Only other thing I can think of is if you wanted to look into getting hardware that can play region A Blu-rays.) Regarding the old US/UK DVDs you mentioned, admittedly I've not seen them myself but it's a shame to hear there weren't any closed captions/subtitles included on those at all. I honestly have no idea why there weren't any included, but (to speculate) it could well be because there hadn't been any subtitles for the English audio created before. Or maybe they weren't provided with the episode scripts to be able to make them. But even with those points being said, it doesn't change the fact they absolutely 100% should have gone out of their way to work to include them on the DVD, in my opinion.
Yeah it's not ideal, but to say the UK gets shafted is a perhaps a tad harsh. I know from first hand experience that the cost of releasing any anime on Blu-ray in the UK is not cheap. In this case, especially with the amount of episodes Digimon has. (The BBFC certification, which by UK law has to be done, plays a significant part in the overall cost.) Doesn't change the fact like you say that if you want to get this you have get additional hardware and such though. I'd love to see this get a UK release. Here's hoping it can happen.
Hi there, due to when the series was made, the show wasn't animated in 16:9/widescreen. So it only displays at 4:3 to retain its original presentation, as that was the standard display for televisions at the time. Hope that helps.
Hey there, Discotek Media have said they'll be releasing a Japanese with English subtitles version Blu-ray in the future. So that's already in the works!
Discotek has really become the Criterion of anime at this point.
They really have, for classic anime for sure
Now I’m hoping for the same quality for the next three seasons and the movie if at all possible.
The episodes look so good. I hope they continue with the next few seasons and dear lord the movies too.
If I can get Tamers dub on bluray.... Never thought I'd see the day!
They are releasing season 2 and the original 3 movies on blu ray.
Way better than the DBZ releases lol

Anyone know if they ever removed the random voice in episode 19 that called Biyomon, heard about 39 so doubt they did but just wondering.
Hi there, if you can give me a bit more info on when in the episode this occurs I'd be happy to take a look.

Makes me sad that yet again, the UK get shafted with these and have to import and get additional region free or region specific hardware.

@jeraffemy nice i'll probably wait for that one with i prefer the Japanese music :)
