Amazing video! I just got into collecting Blu Rays again and I received my Digimon Adventure Japanese version from Discotek and I was blown away with the quality of the remaster. I can feel the love put into it. Going the extra mile to add the song subtitles too was a lovely touch. In Latin America we dubbed the original Japanese version and still kept the original Brave Heart Japanese song. Listening to it yesterday while reading the subtitles moved me deeply. So happy to see that there are still companies treating these shows and releases with love and care :)
4:07 It's actually quite accurate. For example, the designs of the main characters were done by Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru who is an animator and designer at Toei Animation which produced Digimon, DBZ, Sailor Moon and various other anime. He's also the original creator of things like Bardock and SSJ4 from Dragon Ball. So there's a lot of overlap in talent.
I honestly don't remember much of Digimon, but that original English theme for whatever reason stayed in my head & I never forgot it. 😂 I need to give S1 a shot & see if Digimon is another childhood series I need to get back into. 👍
They really knew how to make theme songs that would stick with you Honestly give it a go, the dub surprisingly holds up well but if its not your cup of tea, you can always try the Japanese dub as well
Well, that was pretty interesting! It's so nice seeing the seasons side by side, they really go great together! Thanks for this detailed history, you went through it very pleasantly ^^ I really liked it, that you've shown the menus, that's always much appreciated. And you've managed to convince me finally buying that Discotek sub release :D
The best part is that, as revealed at Otakon, Discotek are also rereleasing the Adventure/Adventure 02 films, but not in the Cursed Fox Dub (aka. Digimon The Movie). They'll be releasing them in their _uncut_ forms, with both the Japanese audio and _new English audio with as much of the original cast as possible reprising their roles, with the Cursed Fox Dub remastered too._ Digimon The Movies is now officially my most hyped home video release. It's a shame the announcement trailer isn't on TH-cam, but I really hope they bring the Movies to the UK somehow as well.
Two for two man. First your TMNT history informed me on what and IF I should buy it. I was just going to go with the 1-4 dvd if I could find it but you talked me into the Blu-ray for season 1.
Dear Soundout12: I've got some super exciting news! Discotek Media officially announced that they have acquired the rights to release Digimon The Movie (2000) on Blu-ray along with the three individual Digimon short films, that were used to make the Digimon movie, in their original Japanese form with English Subtitles. This new Blu-ray set known as Digimon The Movies: Collection 1 will include the first three individual Digimon movies in their original Japanese format with English Subtitles along with brand new uncut re-dubs for each film featuring most of the original English cast, including: Joshua Seth as Tai, Michael Reisz as Matt, and Lara Jill Miller as Kari, brought back to reprise their roles. This new collection will also include an HD remaster of Digimon The Movie (2000). No official release date has been officially confirmed yet but it will be coming out soon.
@@DennisTamayoI'm pretty sure Discotek talked with Disney (not 20th Century Studios which Disney now owns) about bringing that edited film for Digimon the Movies Collection, including the original 20th Century Fox logo.
You're the only person I've seen with Fusion season 2 Dvd, which makes sense considering you said it was barely available so fingers crossed Discotek is able to license Digimon after the Season 1 Japanese set so that the possibility that we get Fusion from Discotek is there at least
That's true we know how Toei is with their only allowing only one season to be licensed at a time, makes me appreciate Tsuburaya and other anime companies just a little bit more

It's good to know that there is a Japanese version of Adventure 01 on physical media. Even though I grew up watching Digimon Adventure 01 & 02 in English, but I have been rewatching the original Digimon animes in Japanese and I feel like the Japanese versions are more tolerable to watch, then the English versions. I do hope someday we will get Japanese versions of Digimon Adventure 02, Tamers and Frontier. But one can hope.
Discotek Media announced this summer that they will be releasing Digimon Adventure 02 (in both English and uncut Japanese releases) and Digimon the Movie Volume 1 set, which will include the original version of first three movies, the newly recorded English version based on the Japanese version featuring most of the original dub cast, and the original US cut of Digimon The Movie
31:38 yes the Japanese op butterfly was in the Japanese dialogue while the usa English release was the original digimon digital monster Track remixed ! But they keep it in tack for i wish last i recall on my DVD from Walmart before rhey started stocking the blu ray bundles
I never noticed the miss slip with Ikkakumon and Zudomon in the booklet till you pointed it out, lol. I also just recently noticed on the DvD sets at least on some of the discs that I noticed they messaged up the order of some of the children. So, on discs, one and two are Tai and Matt, and the menu also reflects that for each. Once you get to disc three, the front is Sora, but the menu is Izzy, and on disx four the front is Izzy and the menu is Mimi. Just thought that was another odd miss up on their part lol.
I really want to get the brand new releases. Its insane that we finally got a japanese release after all these years! I think back in 2009 or 2010 I bought a Digimon Dvd that was bootleg from Amazon. I didnt realize they were bootleg, but they made me so happy because I was going through alot in my life at the time. It was kinda nostalgic that the episodes were ripped from foxkids. 😅
Those bootlegs really were prolific back then, its surprising it took Toei so long to have someone release the shows officially. The demand was there. I remember watching Fox Kids vhs rips on YT back in the time between the Toon Disney reruns finished and the DVDs. That definitely kicked the nostalgia in hard
10:39 cinedigim I remember them from the Yu-Gi-Oh S1-5 and RWBY vol 1-3 DVDs but Walmart had it at probably $40 or so, can't recall fully . But long long LONG oop along with the Ygo GX , 5Ds , Zexal and Arc V S2-3 DVDs sets sadly excluding the non dubbed Seasons of course thx to Konami 4k media Inc. but that's another story
9:46 Digimon data squad was the last time we saw digimon on TV for a while especially on DisneyXD/ formerly toon Disney and wow they skipped vols releases for S2-4 ? Wow 😅😅
20:39 so similar to data squad , tamers didn’t receive the full episode release but only what was available short notice ? Ouch but hopefully discotek media will fix those lost episode zone thing
About the first Fox release: 1. That pamphlet is nice to get on old DVD releases. They're basically like time capsules of what's new or or coming out at the time. 2. The menu being a bit of a bitch to navigate is also a thing on the Simpsons DVDs, or at least the earlier season sets. Idk if this is a thing with Fox TV show releases of the time period.
It’s such a strange way to organize things on a menu but definitely feels like it was them formatting off VHS sets. Glad to know Digimon isn’t alone in that confusion
29:10 Digimon fusion season 3 no localized same with little battlers experience season 3 akin to both on nicktoons network at the time, or nickelodeon depending on your region location of course
Digimon has come a very long time. From the days when Digimon was popular on Fox Kids in the late 1990s and early 2000s back then in my childhood years to the Disney acquisition after Saban Entertainment sold of their library (including Power Rangers and Digimon) and the Fox Kids shutdown on September 7, 2002 before one week later they replaced with Fox Box (later 4KidsTV). To the Saban Brands era when they brought Digimon back from Disney in 2012, to the Shout Factory era with the release of the 6 part film series of Digimon Adventure Tri, and now Discotek Media is now owning the Digimon media franchise to focusing on hardcore Digimon fans with the release of the original Digimon Adventure with Japanese subtitles for the very first time ever in North America.
This is true. I cut a segment for time about how it was the same studio (Toei) but not necessarily the same animators like the blurb claimed. I missed cutting the other reference to it. Continuity misstep on my part
6:14 Discotek announced yesterday that they licensed the original 3 digimon movies(including digimon the movie-edited version of the 3 films-) plus the films will have original Japanese sub and an all new uncut English dub with most of the original dub casts(I saw the announcement trailer last night),plus I owned the vhs of digimon vol.1 & vhs of digimon the movie 📼 when I was in middle school 😊
Pretty weird how sometimes Frontier used the Tamers English logo, even on the theme song and the DVD, and other times, it used its own logo for adverts and merchandising, so yeah, logo whiplash. Also, we do not talk about what came of the big revelation of Xros Wars' 3rd season not being dubbed. Hint: It involves magical girls.
Personally much like with Medabots, Yu-Gi-Oh, Shaman King, and Sonic X I think it's worth watching Digimon in both tracks, so you can compare and contrast, and personally hate me all you want, I think that's more interesting than an 100% accurate dub where the only difference is voices
Honestly I agree. Older dubs were less faithful at times but I own both versions of Digimon, Sonic X and Shaman King where if a modern dub had a separate release, I wouldn’t bother getting both
Personally, I'll pick up both versions of Digimon Season 1 and Shaman King, already have the English version of Sonic X, so I just need the Japanese version, and if somehow, someday, someone gets the rights to anything Japanese version Yu-Gi-Oh, I'll pick it up (yes I know the chances are astronomically small)
Very well done dissection! Love the sheer thoroughness of the material covered. (COMPLETELY forgot about those earlier Data Squad DVDs.) As far as my own collection goes, I've got all the New Video Group complete sets and all the Shout! Movie releases. (They also all have their slips, save for Fusion, which I got later.) Still need to upgrade to Discotek's Adventure dub set, but super pumped for their future with the franchise! (Also very interested to see how long it takes Toei and whichever distributor to bring over 02 The Beginning.) Also, some small corrections here and there: 1. Tamers actually used the same logo that Frontier did rather than the one used for the Adventure seasons. Not sure why they went for the English/Japanese hybrid logo for the DVD set. Maybe they had to search their archives for the correct English logo but didn't find it until they produced the Frontier set? I dunno, but it's an odd anomaly. (One that I suspect won't exist on Blu-ray if Discotek ever makes it to Takato and crew.) 2. Loss DID have a US theatrical release! Saw it myself in February 2018. The only two tri. films that didn't were Determination and Confession. 3. Less relevant to the video, but the Yu-Gi-Oh! sets started coming out in 2013, the year after the Digimon ones.
1. Thanks for that correction! I definitely mixed up which logo went to which show. I wonder if Toei gave them the weird hybrid logo 2. I must have totally missed that Loss had a screening. Still strange that they didn’t do all six 3. Oh that’s right. They did start later. Thanks!
The only real complaint about the DVD releases from me was the very first episode of 02. Not only did they not have the theme song on that episode, it also didn't have TK's Into: "We've sure grown up since our first trip to the digital world! Tai's in High School... " (Ect.) Hopefully the new blu rays will fix that.
me too sure they'll have to dub the 3rd season sadly but just do what they did with Digimon the movies, keep everything the same with the Japanese music, effects and stuff and just worry about dubbing the dialogue. Everyone should be able to return from the English dub as long as no one passes away or disappears.
The only thing I can think of with the TV-Y7 icon in the corner was probably still attached to the episodes, due to them probably using the original broadcasting tapes. Are you going to be updating this after the New Movie Set is being released from Diskotek?
I wish I did, GX 2 and 3, 5D'S 2, and all of ZEXAL are unavailable in their Region 1 forms (it makes me wish I found interest in both anime and Yu-Gi-Oh sooner than a couple years back), I do have all of the original (big box set instead of the individual season sets due to unavailability and price all together) and ARC-V, plus season 1 of both GX and 5D'S
I see the collection you got but there's at least two that I have that did not see in your collection. The ones I don't see is Digimon season 1 and 2 complete sets but it's the Japanese version with the English dub so you can watch the deleted scenes from Japanese version and still listen in English dub like the part where puppetmon has a pistol and shoots it at TK.
I want your honest opinion I grew up watching the original Digimon love the show collector trading cards and play some video games based on the show as a kid I wanted to go back for years to revisit this show but I was wondering trying to go back and rewash it English dub or should I check out these Japanese subtitles
Having watched both sub and dub for the original show, I can honestly say both are good. The dub is a little jokier but it doesn’t make over significant changes to the story. The Japanese version’s songs are so top notch that its worth checking out if you never have. Both experiences are good and fit the time they were made in. You could always try the first episode in both languages and see which you like more
I still gotta get those new video dvds I've been meaning to get them for a long time now I'll definitely try to get them just in case they go out of print or something like if prices for them start to go high
Does anyone know of thr English version of the discotek release has uncut footage? Nostalgia wont let me watch it in Japanese bjt i really want the uncut
@Soundout12 thank you for clearing that up! Guess I'll get both! English for nostalgia purposes and Japanese for original content. I look forward to the Digimon movie and 02 review!
Man I'm hoping that Discotek gets to Data Squad and Fusion since those are the Digimon season I don't have on DVD/Blu-Ray and plus I think the New Video releases of those shows are out of print.
I own the region 2 full set of 01 in English. I'd love to have it the way I originally watched it. (in Norwegian) i got the Japanese version on preorder from discotek, so that's going to be sweet
I'm not going to watch a 47 minute video on Digimon's DVD and Blu-Ray History...

@@silvertheduelistpilotofata0131 Those later sets definitely got harder to find. I never finished my Arc-V set
Do you think you could do another video like that but for the sonic TV shows and movies?
Definitely thinking about doing it once the new Underground and SATAM releases are out
I see the collection you got but there's at least two that I have that did not see in your collection. The ones I don't see is Digimon season 1 and 2 complete sets but it's the Japanese version with the English dub so you can watch the deleted scenes from Japanese version and still listen in English dub like the part where puppetmon has a pistol and shoots it at TK.
I don't believe those were official release in Region 1 which is what the focus of this video was
Question? did they not replace the music from opening and ending on the discotek release?
The English release has the same English Opening, Ending and music as it did back when it aired. The Japanese release has the Japanese music.
I wish you still would have included vhs tho maybe another short video perhaps if this one does well?
A short might work since there wasn’t too many VHS tapes
The diverted teck blu rays are great, I want digimon 02 release s well, but it's stupid expensive compared to the first season/series and still is
I thought u said the second season is getting a Blu_Ray from Discotek?
It is!
Apparently there are small errors for the dub and sub sets? Did you get your replacement discs for them?
I did get the replacements. Its very minor errors but its nice they replaced them
are you gonna get to talking about the japanese home media?
4 times in this video I changed my mind on which version I would buy for adventure haha
It's honestly hard to choose just one lol
Does anyone know of thr English version of the discotek release has uncut footage? Nostalgia wont let me watch it in Japanese bjt i really want the uncut
The English version has all the changes made to the original dub (which aren’t many anyways). The only true uncut is the Japanese version
@Soundout12 thank you for clearing that up! Guess I'll get both! English for nostalgia purposes and Japanese for original content. I look forward to the Digimon movie and 02 review!
@@brianm8923 That’s what I did! I can’t wait to get the 02 and Movies sets!
Man I'm hoping that Discotek gets to Data Squad and Fusion since those are the Digimon season I don't have on DVD/Blu-Ray and plus I think the New Video releases of those shows are out of print.
I hope they get to do both as well especially since Data Squad/Savers never got a remaster in Japan
I own the region 2 full set of 01 in English. I'd love to have it the way I originally watched it. (in Norwegian) i got the Japanese version on preorder from discotek, so that's going to be sweet
I have vhs of first 2 or 3 episodes of dihiom adventure
Does anyone know were i can buy the discotek bluerays?
RightStuf or Amazon
@@Soundout12 thanks
Are the discotech still available on Amazon?
Should be still there
@Soundout12 I just did and idk why the sub version is 10 dollars more lol
@@Pokemonashgreen2 Probably due to it being newer.
Who are The Digimon Girls as The Powerpuff Girls
Does the english discotek version use the dub op or butterfly?
English uses Dub OP
@@Soundout12 THANK THE LORD. Ty for the quick response, definitely grabbing it :)
