@@jasonlee7816 it aged very well looks great plays great and is fun can't say the same for PlayStation one games that look terrible play terrible and hasn't aged well at all those early 3d games are trash now compared to 2d don't get me started on those old tomb raiders and resident evil tank control games
In retrospect the arcade version of Popeye had pretty amazing detailed sprites. Never really thought about it before it was just put right there.

I had this on the Commodore 64 growing up. Never played any others, but I really enjoyed the C64 version.

i think it's interesting that some of the more limited systems managed animated (although limited) hearts, and the mid powered ones did not

Nice video! I emulate the ColecoVision port via my Collectorvision Phoenix currently. It's an excellent arcade port. Including a recommendation, and a link to your video on my channel's review video of the ColecoVision port.
Love the arcade version, NES was the best too.

My favorites are the original arcade, the Atari 2600, the Intellivison (not because it's actually good, but because I have an Intellivison), & the NES.

Were it not for the Popeye theme, you could never tell that the Odyssey 2 version was a Popeye game in a _million years._
Arcade is best. The hi-res sprites (512 x 448) look amazing. Nintendo's NES version looks and plays decent enough, but there are some missing details in the level backgrounds, like Wimpy on the seesaw in level 2.
I loved the c64 version back when I was a kid

I only ever played the arcade original, my church had a cabinet of it in their youth center that we could play for free as much as we wanted. It was cool.

So, rating the home ports (I'm doing this by looks for some I have not played).
1. NES: Straight from Nintendo, and one of three launch titles for the Famicom. Being the first version I ever played, it's incredibly close to the arcade original, mainly having smaller sprites and a loss of a few details.
2. TI-99/4A: Seems to be based on the NES version. It keeps most of its graphical styling, but less colourful. Also lacks music.
3. Atari 5200 and 8-bit family: Still pretty good looking, and keeps the integretity of the game pretty well.
4. Commodore 64: A little less detailed than the Atari 8-bit versions, but looks pretty playable.
5. Colecovision: I used to have this one! It's a very competent port when it comes to gameplay although I think this version could have definitely looked better.
6. Intellivision: Incredibly ugly looking, and the sound has issues, but unlike the Atari 2600 version, keeps the playfields pretty identical.
7. Atari 2600: Despite the graphics taking a further hit from the INTV version, it looks far less ugly, and lacks its sound issues. Due to the Atari 2600 allegedly having issues with asymettrical playing fields, the second level has an altered layout.
8. Odyssey2: It's something... I'll say that.
Unmentioned:
Popeye 5200 graphics hack: Makes the graphics closer to the Famicom version, with colours more like the arcade than the Famicom version.
Popeye for Atari 7800: Despite the usual blockier look the system tended to have, it's even closer to the arcade than Nintendo's own NES port, retaining many lost details, and even closer to the arcade in colour!

There were 3 stages, lower-end consoles could only give us the first, and one or two must of had the memory for the second stage.

Me watching popeye by group m pro: Where's the magnavox odyssey?
Why is it that the nes version is the only one with the complete ladder in the middle from the first level???
I sometimes really don’t understand nintendo.
The arcade version is my favorite and the NES version is my 2nd favorite. The Atari 2600 version sucks because of Brutus. In the arcade, Brutus runs when you grab the spinach. But on the 2600 version, Brutus walks right towards you when you grab the spinach. Half of the fun is having to chase Brutus and knock the crap out of him. But on the 2600 version, he doesn't run when you grab the spinach. That's not challenging and that sucks. Other than that, the 2600 Popeye is very good. It has all three screens and music. If they had made Brutus more challenging, the 2600 Popeye would've been awesome.
I only played it when there was nothing else to play.
C64 out of Nostalgia, Arcade looks the best.
I have the Atari 2600 version. And I’ve played the colecovision version I d say I like the coleco version but I don’t have it anymore so I’d say I like the Atari 2600.

A game and a cartoon from a simpler time. Generations grew up with Popeye. The game, I'd make drawings of it when I couldn't play. A few early versions were pretty good, but the NES is the one that plays best.

Arcade is best, but on home systems, the NES has the best port. I owned it on NES and played it extensively.

The arcade version is of course my favorite, and I am a little surprised that the TI version is good. I have the Intellivision version of Popeye and it doesn't look good compare to the TI computer.
Bothe nes,C64,5200 etc,,,are pretty good but the oddysey 2 is the most bismal port ever with just only 1 level.

The Odyssey version was the worst. Magnavox managed to make the Atari 2600 version not look so bad. Some Atari 2600 games do have decent graphics.

As usual NES version is the best. Also the only one I played. On pirated famiclone cause when you do not have games and have some 80in1 cardrige with 5 games you play each one of them. Not my favourite NES/Famicom game :P
