Published by Nintendo in late 1982, Popeye is a really nice 3-level platform game that captures the essence of the comic strips and cartoons. 4 loops were completed, after which there's nothing really new to see.

Fun Fact: Nintendo created the concept for the Donkey Kong arcade game in order to secure the rights for Popeye to make this game. Without this game we may never of had Mario or Donkey kong

Reversed actually, Donkey Kong was originally supposed to be Popeye’s game, but they couldn’t secure the rights to the IP so they changed the characters to DK and Jump-man etc and the success of that game allowed them to secure the rights to make Popeye’s game

When I was a kid in the 80s, there was a department store that me and my mom went to sometimes, they had Popeye, Kangaroo, and Centipede in the lobby.

Nice story, thanks for sharing. Kangaroo was in this key cutting shop at the top of our high road right next to the bus stop. If I couldn't spot a bus coming then would pop into the shop for a game.

Popeye was a massive hit for Nintendo, but suprisingly there weren't any direct arcade sequels.

Perhaps due to licensing costs they decided to focus on Donkey Kong and Mario themes.
