That 757 must have been at a very high takeoff weight. Lightly loaded, those things are rocket ships.

@K D The 757 turned right on a departure route with no challenging climb commands (needing to reach a min altitude quickly) so definitely a highly derated thrust. On the other hand the 737 turned left where there are departure routes going over the city or direct offshore that require min altitudes in a short time which probably explains the 737 climbing quicker than the 757.

Never know how hard the pilot is pushing it. Reduced power takeoffs to have engine wear and fuel consumption? Who knows. Rather interesting drag race though I say.
@@asaschlobohm I highly doubt that 737 was heavy. It was taking off on Rwy 1L which is the shortest runway at SFO at only 7600 ft.
The 757 must have been fully loaded! It’s WAY more powerful, and actually has the highest “Thrust to weight ratio” of any airliner. When I first flew the 737, I had only flown in 757’s (Becuase my national airline only used 757’s, prios to when they got the Maxes). When taking off I didn’t realise we were actually taking off due to how slow the 737’s are! When flying on the 757’s, you are forced back in your seet once the plane takes off!
Not every takeoff is done using 100% thrust.
Perhaps the 757 was taking off with a reduced power setting, whereas the 737 was using full power.
Why didn't you consider this as the reason for what was shown in the footage?
You can thank the Rolls Royce RB211. Simply the best sounding engine ever and nothing comes close. Specifically made for the L1011 tristar

Great video buddy, the *757* looks kinda of heavy but still it used slightly less runway in this clip. In a straight fair 50/50 Challenge the *757* will beat the *737* Hands down!!!

I was on a RR 752 that only had a handful of people and was loaded lightly fuel and cargo wise and hot damn that thing felt like it had rockets on it on takeoff and the climb out was ridiculous I swear the VSI had to be pegged hard crazy but awesome

@@tkk777 75's are next level empty. Years ago Thomas Cook used to charter in full into blackpool and reposition empty back to Manchester. Blackpools runway 28/10 is a touch over 1800 meters long and it would only use a third, climb like the space shuttle and be level at fl070 within 60 seconds of rotation. 757 200 series if my memorys correct

This is the third ‘racing’ video between planes @ SFO I have watched today and they were all absolutely fantastic. Also watched one parallel landing @ SFO which was great! This airport is without a doubt my very favorite airport...not only do I live close to it but I love the whole area. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video.

As a student pilot I asked ONT (Ontario international airport) for permission to fly through their airspace. They granted permission and later asked if I’d like to do some touch and goes. Guess they weren’t busy. I radioed back
“ Cessna 172 I SURE WOULD!” They gave me a runway and did 2 on each approach. (Long runways). Flying is fun.
The fact that I was on a 757 saved my butt one time on an emergence take-off procedure at LAX when a plane ventured onto the runway. That 757 must have been heavy with passengers, freight, baggage, and fuel. They used a lot of runway.
They also must get separation quickly after takeoff. 1L must climb faster and 1R to remain lower. Planes can not fly very close after takeoff in SFO.

I was the United 757 pilot in this video and confirm we had reduced power takeoff. This is normal to preserve the engines but in this case the flight attendants were violently beating the safety instructions into a passenger so we decided to minimise the G force on them.

The 757 has much more hp per ton so they don’t take off even near to 100% thrust and if it did the 737 would’ve got creamed
