    Interesting selection. So many good horror movies to choose from, which is probably why the only film that comes into my top 25 that is in yours is The Exorcist. In my top 100 though are also your selections of The Thing, Rec, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

    You have a good mix of different stuff from different times, I love that. I might have different opinions about some of the films, but all of them are definitely good ones. I personally have a hard time deciding on one top movie for myself. The Thing is probably it for me too, it has been a constant favorite since I was a kid in the 80s and that movie along with some of Carpenter's other films are probably the biggest reason I'm a horror fan. Thank you for sharing your list of 25 favorite horror films! I appreciate your choices, even though 'Martin' by George A. Romero and 'The Brood' by David Cronenberg are personal favorites of mine. It's always interesting to see how varied the horror genre can be, and your list has certainly sparked some great discussion.
    While I do agree with most of your picks, I must admit that I see 'Pan's Labyrinth' as more of a fantasy film, 'Gremlins' as having a strong comedic element, and 'Blade II' as having superhero vibes. 'Halloween' from 1978, it's a classic for me , even though I understand it might be more of an honorary mention for you for me is top 25 . Thanks again for sharing your list

    • @MuckMan_Movies
      @MuckMan_Movies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for your comments. Horror comes in many guises. I don't understand why people can't see that. Gremlins is a horror comedy with some very dark moments. Blade II is a vampire movie with some gory moments. Pan's Labyrinth is a fantasy horror with some horrific moments such as the General smashing the man's face in with a bottle or the stuff of nightmares pale man scene. Horror shouldn't have to be as straight laced and obvious as a lot of people on here seem to think.

    french MARTYRS is the best horror movie of 21th Century. In my opinion Peter Jackson's Braindead, Barkers Hellraiser, Fulcis Zombie, Romeros Dead Trilogy, Raimis Dead Trilogy, From Dusk till Dawn, Scream 1 are better that half of your list. Tenebre is my favorite Argento. In my opinion is Gullermo Del Toro is overhyped. For me his movies are OK, nothing special. Not many people see the austrian movie ANGST 1983 with Erwin Leder, in my opinion it is the best psycho thriller with great camera work. And POSSESSION 1981 is THE art house horror movie ever time. To those shuddering at his inclusion of Gremlins. I have been watching horror films with my dad since I was 5 and the only movie that he almost made us walk out of was Gremlins. He was genuinely disturbed watching these monsters joyously tormenting this town with demonic glee as the audience roared with laughter. But thats what I love about Spielberg-produced horror, he often uses a family-friendly story template to trick audiences into feeling safe and fuzzy and then almost subliminally lays on the scares. It’s only much later that one realizes just how the dark themes/ideas that were underneath the surface really were.

Also Kate's story of her father found dead up in the chimney is stuff of nightmares. Thanks for your reasoning comments and thanks for watching.

      lol, since when is over-acting a problem! Ha! Of course I’m kidding, but when the choices are as interesting as Cage makes I really think it’s art, especially if the film is as great as Mandy. And, btw, the first time I saw it I had the same feeling as you about the second half. I am not a huge fan of fight films, so superficially I was turned off. But I was drawn back to the film again, and the second time noticed the absolutely STUNNING and ultra-ambiguous ending. Then thinking about Shakespeare’s many revenge plots, I realized I needed to give that second half another watch. The third time I watched I realized what a masterpiece the film is. I cannot wait for his next feature. In my opinion, Cosmatos is our best young living director. Better than Astor, as he allows his film to end in ambiguity. We shall see if that pans out, but I have high hopes.

    Isolation horror. When you can't call for help and you know no help is coming. It brings an extra layer of desperation to the movie.
    Absolutely loved it.
    Fabulous list.. I'll be sure to check out the ones I haven't seen. If you like hereditary you gotta check out the other one from Ari Aster "Midsomer"

If I drew up such a list I would have included Psycho, and the Birds, by Hitchcock, Rosemary's Baby, The Night of the Hunter, which was the only movie directed by Charles Laughton, and the Dead of Night, a British portmanteau horror movie from Nineteen Forty Five.

    Actually, a minor correction and a great pub/bar bet to win you a pint. Ask someone who played as Frankenstein in the classic horror flick. Almost invariably they'll jump out with "Boris Karloff" which is wrong. Colin Clive played as Frankenstein. Karloff played "the Monster." Check the end credits in the movie itself.
