BMW M 1000 R vs. Ducati Streetfighter V4 S - Test in the Alps

  • The top level of naked bikes has now reached an incredible 210 horsepower, with the BMW M 1000 R now defining the end of the food chain. However, Ducati's Streetfighter V4 S is anything but weak-chested with 208 horsepower. Both are capable of brute performance, especially on the racetrack - but are these hyper-nakeds also suitable for the super narrow roads in the Alps, or can they hardly run there for sheer power?

I have owned the SFV4S, recently purchased the M1000R... the only reason why I bought the M1000R because I test rode it.
The M1000R is so much better than the SFV4S in every category. My M1000R came with the following as standard... 5 year warranty, 3 year roadside care, all the creature comforts that a modern motorcycle should have, better fuel mileage etc. etc. etc.

Go watch some actual reviews, the M1000R is sadly a gazillion times inferior to the Ducati. Regarding the suspension, brakes, bar&peg vibrations and the existent instability in corners.. The only actual PRO's are the better price, lower fuel consumption, having an actual fuel gauge and having cruise control..
Some Italian reviewers did a thorough research of all the top naked bikes right now.. the Ducati came clearly on top, it is the best overall package requiring the least amount of intervention for a normal user. Can't say that about the M1000R. th-cam.com/video/EFXMaosuoRQ/w-d-xo.html

It all depends on your riding style. If you're too aggressive, then expect your fuel consumption to drop dramatically. As far as well-rounded, that goes to the BMW. It has every single safety feature that you will ever need on the road. Plus, unlike the Ducati, the BMW has a fuel Guage.

If you're considering a litre bike for the mountains then you're leaving a lot of the performance in the valley cos that redline isn't going to be bothered too much when you have the sort of power any litre super-naked produces, let alone the M1000R. Having spent years riding litre bikes in the Alps it was riding a 765RS and then 890 DukeR that wakened me to less is more. The 890 in particular has the torque and electronics to make hairpin after hairpin a joy, not a balancing act. Yes my M1000R is probably quicker overall, but even fine tuning the electronics that warp drive is a handful on such small roads. Plus, less than one week will destroy a set of tyres in the mountains on the M1000R (ask me how I know), that's an expensive bike to run on tyres alone.

@@Nanayaah1 I know how you feel. I have 2600 all-road miles on my MR and about finished off the third set before I parked her for winter. Just over 600 for the OEM tyres, which given the OEM spec that's fair, 1100 for the second set which were Diablo 4's and 900 for the next set of Diablo 4's (I was trying harder). I have enough to ride her to the tyre shop for replacements, but not much else. I couldn't only own a litre bike and ride the mountains, it's just too expensive, hence also having an 890 which is a fantastic mountain bike.

The chassis feels more stable. The engine produces massive ammounrs if power immediately, the BMW diesnt feek like it struggles, but ut feeks like 600 down low and has a nasty power dip in the mud range. The elecrtronics were over complicated. The BMW fekt much more cramped to ride, and thr engint vibration is atrocious for a modern day buke. Damn near old school 2 strokr level at speed. Of the two I prefer the 890 simply for the better thrust off corners and slightly more upright riding position to manhandle the bike in slow hairpins and the quick direction changes on compact roads. @@theincrediblesulk5543

No I think V4s like Streetfighter and Tuono 1100 Factory are superior. BMW has cheap components (No Brembos or Öhlins), the Aprilia and Ducati have full Bosch, Brembo and Öhlins. The BMW M looks cheap with Playstation graphics kit, ugly dull looking headlight and cheap blue painted Nissen brakes. $38K for a brand that are total failures on the world stage of racing in WSBK. They're getting killed by Ducati. The V4s give you the mid-range power and superior torque launch off the line.
