  • In the first part of our bracket-style competition the 2023 Aprilia Tuono V4 Factory came out as the winner. In part 2 we are now putting this this machine up with the even more expensive 2023 BMW M 1000 R and 2023 Ducati Streetfighter V4 SP 2 to see if a $20k can keep up with the likes of a nearly 30K and 40k machines and crown a 2023 Hyper-Naked bike of the year.

    SIck of hearing these reviews with no concrete numbers. Are you not ALLOWED to reveal which of these bikes is quickest on track? Is that against what certain manufacturers allow?
    How about giving us some numbers: braking distances, 1/4 mile times, 1/2 mile times.

    Problem is the bikes are so heavily castrated out of the box due to euro and
    USA laws. The m1000r in particular has a massive dip in mid range especially in 2nd gear. A remap from brentune gains 40-50hp in midrange which stops a lot of the issues you are seeing on track. Appreciate you have to review them ‘out of the box’. But a small amount of time and a little money transforms the bike. Makes it run richer, therefore cooler and the gains are immense all round (also kills the horrible high cold idle which is there to simply heat the cat as fast as possible).

    Had a '22 Tuono, don't rate it highly at all. The clutch rattled, it got hot, I got engine lights every second ride, the ergonomics were compromised, it vibrated when cruising to/from fun rides... It took a Gabro tune for it to feel a bit better but never good. Traded it on a BMW S1000R. The BMW was miles better in every way, except sound. Standard the electronics were more refined, it handled better, with a shorty pipe it screamed in Dynamic Pro and burbled on the overrun... It was fast but not playful. Traded it on a '22 MT10SP. Now the Yamaha may not have the most power, or the handling of the BMW but it's a brilliant blend between the Tuono and BMW characters. Plus, it's a hooligan in character... The Ducati... I wouldn't buy one purely because it doesn't have cruise control! I've had mountain bike crashes which have wrecked ligaments in my right wrist. I can't ride any bike for extended periods without CC. Until Ducati decide to fit CC to any of their sportier bikes, Streetfighter V2, V4, Monster SP, it doesn't matter, I won't buy one.

The whole experience was dominated by that tractor torque engine that sounded awful and was pointless to rev out, all it had was big TORQUE and nice low speed balance/handling, the chassis was just struggling to contain that engine. The chassis, suspension (it was an Evo version, maybe fiddling with modes and settings would help, had plush ride quality but zero feel/feedback), brakes, engine, electronics, switchgear, or really anything on that bike isn't even in the same class as the tuono or the streetfighter. It is a very crude instrument, good if you want torque and wheelies, I suppose, somebody likes that, for my taste there was too much instant torque available, nothing to do with it, and no point in revving it out, not really any point outside of brap power wheelies which I'm not into. Anyway I decided to be a comfortable old man and switched to v4 pikes peak from the tuono after seriously considering and trying sfv4s (which I still would pick as a fun bike, or maybe even go down to V2 because v4 is way too fast for the road) and a bunch of other stuff.
      Sadly my superduke impressions were the same as everyone I personally know who has tried it. Most say 890 is actually great unlike the 1290, still haven't tried that, 790 was a crapshoot.

I still give the edge to the KTM GT in motor response and outright torque. But that’s all. PP better bike everywhere else-as it should be the price. Also-Superduke has Brembo Stylemos just as Ducati. @@tomtraynor5384 must be the difference in pads and the master cylinder, maybe electronics/fluid/lines 🤷‍♂️
      Both tuono v4 and gran Turismo v4 have a good amount of torque accessible almost anywhere and are exciting to rev out because they build power, 1290 is not, also too viby, desmosedici stradale is a bit too top endy and flat/flacid at the bottom and in the midrange compared to others. I'd take the older Ducati V2s from multis over the superduke engine. Multi v4 does feel held back, especially after seeing what the similar engine is capable of in the streetfighter application, although multi has a much more usable powerband with more torque and power where it matters. It's better with the akra system, maybe bhp UK system with their tune or brentune would be more exciting with the higher redline.

Prior to tune I could go wot in 2nd around 4k rpms and no lift whatsoever until 10k ( I'm a big boy😂) now just above 6k it starts to climb and pulls so much harder from there. Totally solves the gear selection issue. If you guys get to East TN to road test some stuff. It's available for some seat time. Then again I can see where an aftermarket tune isn't an apples to apples comparison.

    Was gonna get the ducati but went with tuono instead. I like that its almost not a naked you have a front end to look over. Parts are a lot cheaper and bike sounds way better. Insurance is half the cost and riding position is better in my opintion. Tuono wheelies all day lol. Also the ducati pushed your wrists into the bars more making it less comfortable.

    I only ride my supernakeds on the road, and after testing them all i chose the s1000r sport at the best all rounder. After a remap and full exhaust, it's a great bike.
    I couldn't get the v4 sound out of my head though, so also ended up buying a Tuono v4 factory with race pipe. Both great bikes with different strengths and weaknesses.
    The bmw could do with an ohlins steering damper. The Aprilia needs an rcs17 corsa corta master to sort the soft brake feel. I've also downgeared both bikes (+2r on the tuono, and -1f on the bmw) to make the most of their engines.
    The M wasn't announced when i bought them, but not sure you can use more than 175hp on the road anyway.
    The Ducati was very nice, but i felt the speeds had to be higher to feel the bike, and the engine didn't sound as nice as the Aprilia.

    • @RikkyTang
      @RikkyTang 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is a problem with the USA's emission and noise laws - I've ridden an M1000R in the UK and I can tell you the midrange is really strong! It's a shame - I used to watch USA bike reviews a lot but now in many cases the stock power outputs are lower than the Euro models. and the bikes don't ride the same way.

    So I got a question regarding the Aprilia. The TSV4 Factory has been my dream bike. I'm about tonturn 38 and it's time for me to upgrade from my 2014 ZX-6R ABS, which I absolutely love, but I want something with less aggressive riding position.
    Would swapping out the bars help the riding position any? Is it the bars, seat, pegs, tank or a combination of the? ThebAprilia has everything I want in a bike; Cruise Control, premium suspension, that perfect V4 sound, power, great looks, etc.. I think it even has Bluetooth for phone connectivity I think. The only concern I have is the riding position. I'm 5'9 & 180lbs.

    This review seems to have bias toward Ducati, The Tuono is easily the winner along with even being the version with extra options its still under 20k and if you happen to live in a warmer area like myself the Ducati is impossible to ride in town or even on the freeway. Horrible experience with the heat coming from the Duc

  • @dariocp87

    Why they don’t make bikes like that but with bodywork?? Don’t get me wrong, sports bikes are a pain in the ass once you have like half an hour riding them. Why haven't any of the inline four bikes besides Yamaha used the 90 degree crank set up? Seems like the mid-range flatness you spoke of would be solved on the BMW. Would that put the BMW on par with the Ducati? Then there is that sound.

    • @RaceWithTime
      @RaceWithTime ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The mid-range flat spot on the BMW has nothing to do with the engine configuration or firing order, it’s entirely to do with US noise regulations. A 180deg crank inline 4 can make just as much midrange torque as any other engine configuration of similar displacement.

    • @sup3rs0p0

    I have forged rims on my '23 moved over from my '21. The lighter wheels do help a lot. I also use a -2 on the Steering damping. (A modes) (M) I is pretty low. Just enough that if and only if a tank slapper ever happens, it will be firm enough to slow that down.
