    I got the 2005 500hp SL55AMG model. I own several 500+hp cars, but the SL is somewhat a "Dr. Jeckyll & Mr.. Hyde". It can be the comfy daily driver as well as the brutal unforgiving beast.
    I kove my SL, but I have to restrain myself. If I get cocky, it does too and whenever that happens, it scares the sh*t out of me! *lol*
    I also own a 2000 SLK 230 Kompressor with hardly 200hp. Now that's a nice little toy to play with and it's a ton of fun to throw it around some winding stretch of road. The SL is the opposite... It will throw you around unless you pay the appropriate amount of respect to it! Also it will teach you about the laws of Physics and your personal limitations as a driver...

      agreed, it takes a lot of restraint and discipline. I have an 05' E55 and we use for family drives with 4 passengers and a full trunk all the time, its a GREAT family sedan...

    I purchased a 2007 SL55 AMG and that was the first year with the larger 82mm throttle body. It has 'real' paddle shifters (not the buttons) and was stock at 510 hp. The m113k engine is a de-tuned engine and is pretty bullet proof and is the same as the SLR that can easily be modified. Mine is a street driver, so I did not get too radical on mods, but there are many options. An updated supercharger pulley can add some horsepower, but you might also consider replacing the stock belt pulley system. Mine had some issues with continued full throttle acceleration, so I added a larger intercooler in addition to the stock intercooler (yes I have two intercoolers) and replaced the intercooler pump with the Bosch 010. The suspension system is so incredibly complex very expensive when things fail. The power steering belt driven pump also drives the hydraulics for the suspension and the pressure in the system are incredible. If you ever get a leak in your power steering, SHUT THE CAR DOWN IMMEDIATELY.

    Completely agree about the SL, Electric cars will NEVER offer the same emotions or experience as a supercharged V8 old-school supercar like the SL55. Mine is a 2007 so 510bhp and 538 torque, mars red and only 19k miles. When looking for an SL55 make sure it has good service history... Also, get the newest year you can afford. This is the beautiful thing about the SL55... Supercar performance when you want it to be, and the ultimate grand touring experience when you want to just cruise, etc. The ABC system placed this car in a tier of its own... NO exotic at the time had a system quite like it.

    I recommend to drive the SL55 to Nordschleife and you will see, what the car is capable to do. I do it by a Nürburgring-training day and was very surprised how fast and hard you can drive it. It was pure fun. Then overs have to squeeze out the last revs out of their cars, my SL do it easy riding on his torque wave. My SL55 comes from factory as one of the first with official 500 PS and without limiter (drivers package) and has since two years a software-tuning with round about 540PS.

    I recently purchased an all-black 06' SL55 with 85K on the odometer & aftermarket 19" rims with a machined finish, 265mm in front & 305mm in the rear for $16 grand. I had carbon fiber installed on the front lip, spoiler, diffuser & side mirrors from RW Carbon on a new 030 front end. Engine mods are next. Even though the car is now 17 years old, the looks & neck breaking it commands are amazing.

      Lucky you. I paid 12k for an sl500 with 90k on the clock. It's fun to drive but compared to my cts-v it's built like crap lol. I want an amg but can't find for a decent price that hasn't been dogged.

      @@TheHitman- I admit that I was searching for about 4 months before I found the one I happened to buy. I put up notifications on every online car website I could find & was lucky enough to find mine about 5 hours away within 30 minutes of the ad being placed. If you're serious & ready to make the purchase, just stay on top of every online platform you can find & it'll come along, but in the last 6 months alone the prices have skyrocketed about 25% so don't wait too long.

    Not sure I’d describe the paddle shift feature as a “race car experience”…

  • @alexitapia1783

    A 2006 Slk55 is just as fast because of power to weight ratio and not so complex. You could have supercharger issues and abc suspension issues down the road. It's a comparison of next car to buy I've been stuck with for some time. Throw in the Slk32 in there too I suppose

    i own a sl 55 with p030 but the lowering of the car didnt come with it. it actually has the same height as the regular one but the suspension setting is kinda different (more sporty) and it has improved struts. also the rear spoiler didnt come with it - its an aftermarket piece

  • @donkekis
    @donkekis 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The P030 also had additional oil cooling and bigger brakes. VMax was upped to 300Km/h. The rear spoiler was not part of the package, also the rims shown on this car aren't the ones that came with the P030. This car sits way lower than usual, it's impossible program that. I'm pretty sure there are lowering links installed.

    • @DrivenbyDrivers
      @DrivenbyDrivers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You sir are very correct on all points. We weren't aware of the lowering links until after we were done filming, but it seems like you know your facts about this car and we didn't do our homework correctly. Thanks for mentioning.

    • @donkekis
      @donkekis 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrivenbyDrivers I read a lot about this car =) I believe what the owner wanted to achieve was the Nürburgring configuration. That can be done with the star diagnosis, and will have less wear on the suspension than lowering links

    • @DrivenbyDrivers
      @DrivenbyDrivers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm pretty sure the P030 conversion has been done correctly by the first owner, seeing that not a single detail was missed, but later on in this cars career the lowering links were added by probably a later owner. Funnily enough the car is still very comfy and handling absolute fine, even with these links.
