I took my cheap Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG to Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ to run the quarter mile. This is the most fun I have had in this car so far. Man, this was good.

Best way to launch most of those M113 motors is half throttle in manual with ESP off and then once you baby it through first you leave it in sport. Sport gives you faster shifts and an extra 500 RPM in the top end! Running 12.8 in my lightly modded 04 CLK55 non supercharged. Congrats on the purchase! that's a steal for the 55.

Amber Lea thats interesting. I usually do ESP off, about 40% percent throttle and then when the car starts moving over 10-15mph I give it around 80% percent throttle and then after that I give 100% on my 2002 E55. it sounds complicated but I'm used to it so it's not even something I think about anymore.

Based on my 2004 SL55 experience, these cars are faster than advertised. That may be due to having a long break-in period. All the new car published numbers are with cars that aren't really ready to rock n roll. Give the Benz 75,000 or more miles to get broken in and it's faster.

a service to an engine can almost restore all "lost" power, i dont remember what program that tested it but they did a big service, the car had a 30 - 25 horsepower less than stock, they changed oil, sparkplugs and all filters, in the end it was probably only 2 -5 horsepowers off its original horsepowernumber, with that service you did to the SL55 you added alot of what it had lost

Nice 12:55 is sweet! My brand new 93 mustang GT went 13:30's@103 then with aluminum heads and a lot of other stuff it went 11:16@116. Then finally with a one off custom aluminum intake and Vortech S- Trim running 14lbs of boost it ran a 10:58@128MPH. That was over a three year period. I sold it after owning it for 12 years. It had 36 thousand miles and looked better than the day I drove it home from shire town ford in Plymouth mass. I had it appraised it was worth 27 thousand. I sold it three years later after sitting in my garage to a car collector. It never seen rain, snow or any bad weather and lived in a heated garage.

Sweet car, my friend had a silver one, same year as that. He did something with the exhaust to make it sound even meaner. It's a HEAVY car though, so sadly, my '07 wrx with an older blouch 20g (did 344hp/345tq from Cobb Tuning on the dyno) was dead even on 5 separate runs we did from 40-140mph... I think he got rid of it because of the cost of the stock suspension replacement, plus he had an S2000, so, gotta love less weight. That's a beast HWY cruiser though!!!

Don't forget better cooling, M113K is my favorite engine but heat soak is it's weak point. Easily solved though.

it's pretty normal for AMG's to perform better than factory rating. first AMG I bought had 238k miles on the clock and it got to 60mph about 0.3 seconds faster than the factory rating when new.

You should have bought better tires. I think you should keep the wheels, they're appropriate and I think their classy.

Wow that weighs 2120kg? My Discovery 2 is officially 2020Kg (but has to make do with 185hp from the 4.0 V8) - That is one heavy car and it needs that power to shift it!

You know, I was honestly thinking mid-12's for your SL55.
And after your first run, and that trap speed of 110 mph, I was pretty certain it was/could be a "12 second" car.
What I WAS surprised about was your 60 foot time: I was thinking 2.0, maybe 1.9.....but that 1.8 though- damn. THAT was HOOKING.
And it's all even more impressive considering the:
1.Curb Weight of that 2 door "Sport Lightweight" (Ha!) TANK....and
    2. The amount of miles on it, and the neglect the previous owner showed for it (poor thing...).
...and if you ever get "The Itch" to get a little more something out of it, just stop by Renntech (they're in Florida). They can do magic with a supercharged German V8.
    Awesome vid.

It'd be interesting if you picked up a pair of 17s from a lesser benz, drop the rear pressure, and really let that thing squash a sticky tire. Still pretty damn fast stock though!

hi , I own the same car, strange you ran 12.5 seconds the 1/4 mile when stock. I am at 13.1 and my car is also stock and extremely healthy on dyno. Was it made on a track or street?
