Her voice! I could listen to her talk all day! Yes she is a FANTASTIC trumpet player, but her beautiful, so melodic and soothing voice is so calm and sweet that it makes me wish to be in her company too.. BTW, we men process women's voices in the same place in our brains that we process hearing music, a fact! :)

André was professor of trumpet at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and introduced the teaching of the piccolo trumpet including the Baroque repertoire on trumpet. André has inspired many innovations on his instrument and he contributed to the popularization of the trumpet. Maurice won the Geneva International Music Competition in 1955, together with Theo Mertens, and the ARD International Music Competition in Munich in 1963. There is a difference. She is beautiful, but it doesn't make her talent less important. She is a serious, talented trumpetplayer without her beauty.
Thank you for the historical significance of Maurice Andre's talent and work of his lifetime achievements. Many are not aware of his numerous contributions, especially the younger generations. I so appreciate knowing all of his contributions over many decades. Alison Balsam has her place too among the great trumpet players, but she's young and has many years to prove herself.

Please Alison come back soon in Brussels together with our famous Brussels Philharmonic or another among the multiple belgian Chamber Ensembles playing at Bozar or at Flagey - since the OPRL is fully programmed for the next years !!

Alison faces boat loads of criticism and outright contempt, simply because she's got the audacity to have elected to become an artist on what some deem to be a 'mans' instrument. It matters not, the proof is in one's ears, she's magnetic, she's profound, she's elegant and buoyant and electrifying by turns. She was born to play this instrument.
The interesting thing is that if you listen without knowing who is playing you would give rave reviews. Anyone who does not think she is superb has very little musical knowledge.
Swede McGuire I would find that somewhat surprising since I've been playing with female brass players for almost as long as I've played a brass instrument (45 years), and some of them are very good (including one young lady I encouraged to major on euphonium). The vast majority of brass players are male and that may always be true, but one would think we'd be over the boy's club mentality after all these years.

Some people like those who start very young don't encounter many difficulties, since its almost an organic process.
