    In the days before 9/11 I remember 9 year old me being put on a flight from Manchester to Gatwick on my lonesome. The crew knew this and were super nice to me, but they even let me into the cockpit to talk with the pilots while cruising! It blew my little mind

      In Australia it was standard for the kids onboard TAA to be invited up to see the cockpit. It's such a shame that 911 put an end to that.

    Airbus. There's nothing more to say!! What beautiful aircraft, the lower cost of the plane will allow smaller carriers to diversify the international markets, and that will, in turn, help make travel more affordable for everyone. Great video! Great product!

    Economy reviews should not be done with the adjacent seat empty - typically that is not most people's experience and it makes a considerable difference to how comfortable you feel.

      That's so true, but you obviously don't want to disturb anyone whilst filming especially with their style of video so that's the trade off.

      Regardless, that was pure propaganda. Just like with covid, electric cars and other madnesses, the thing to keep in mind is to make something terrible, demoniac or plain stupid, something beautiful.
      Everybody in his right mind knows that a small narrow body plane for almost 8 hours of flight is sheer madness. Not only for the queue for the toilette but also for turbolence and how smooth and calma a bigger plane handle storms and strong wind. Also, the ability to walk and stretch in a wide body plane.
      Defending this kind of plane, smiling like a fool, is like when you celebrated the covid lockdowns for example. Some people.

    I expect fares in narrowbody aircrafts to be at least 15 or 20% lower than in widebody aircrafts. If it does not occur I will buy the widebody option hands down…

    • @simondahl5437
      @simondahl5437 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      Why would it be lower? That’s not the purpose of these aircraft, and they certainly don’t have the operating economics of a widebody. These aircraft just open up new routes.

    • @dannmm6745
      @dannmm6745 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

      @ it’s easy, the quality is lower so the price must be lower. Only 1 aisle, so forget about a short walk. Also forget about going to the toilet during meals because the carts will block the aisle anytime. (And it can take easily 1.5 hours… ) furthermore only 3 toilets for 180 passengers, so be prepared to queue for the toilet and probably it will be a mess… The experience is definitely worse than in a widebody. That’s why I say that in case there is a widebody option available I will always take it. Only if the single aisle is remarkably cheaper I could consider to get it.
      And if there isn’t a direct widebody option available I will even consider a stopover. I usually prefer travelling for 12 hours comfortably than suffering for 9 hours.

    I use my avíos to fly Madrid to many Latin/ South American routes, they are great value in business for redemptions and like 3-4x less than BA want. I never fly Iberia for service, it just doesn’t cut it - and the food and extras are very limited or weak in my opinion.. but for the bed in the sky, it’s great value.
    The narrow body flights doing more than 6 hours is definitely a risk - for so many reasons and I’m sure the last 30% of seats get a much worse experience if there are lines for the toilet the entire flight… but if the price is right, then it’s a win for the public. If they want the same fares for narrow body, then it’s worth choosing another airline in my opinion.

  • @jimhearsonwriter

    I had some friends fly out of Madrid a few weeks before I did in November and they warned me about the massive queues - I must've got lucky, as there were no issues when I got there other than no gate agent at check-in for about 20 minutes after it opened.
    No delays meant I was able to enjoy the lounge that Nicky went into and it was superb - you can really get your steps in going from one end to the other, the bar was self-service when I was there (result), there's so much apron-view seating you could plane spot for days, the buffet food was great and constantly refreshed, and there was a little a la carte restaurant at one end, but I had more than enough from the other options.

      Honestly if your flight doesn’t leave between 8-11AM (most flights depart at those times) or at midnight (nearly every flight to America boards around 12PM), you won’t encounter many queues. But do take into account that the airport is massive, especially if you need to go to the T4 Satellite terminal

Also, when you said you would be flying from Madrid to Boston, I can’t help but picture Sam who is featured in your Virgin Atlantic A330neo flight saying “I’ve never been to Boston, Texas!”😆 then Liam saying “Actually it’s Massachusetts.” 😂

    I don’t think there’s anything to be excited about being stuck for 8 hours in the back of the cabin in a narrowbody aircraft. The suites up in business might be nice, but the amount of lavatories per economy passenger and the galley space to warm up meals for so many passengers is concerning. I think on a skinny route like that it makes good sense but the cold food in business and economy point towards the weakness of the tiny gallies the crew have to work in. The bathroom thing seems and issue too plus with a 7 1/2-hour flight and no place to stretch your legs I'd personally avoid it. Ok if you've got a low load factor like Liam with a free row but in a full aircraft I can imagine it getting pretty claustrophobic after three or four hours.

  • @scottnichols3685
    @scottnichols3685 หลายเดือนก่อน +22

    The reason it took Liam 2.5 hours to get his meal is because Iberia opted for an absolutely abominable galley arrangement at the back of the economy cabin. The galley shares space with two lavatories, and is less than half the size of the normal 321 galleys on most airlines. Delta also opted for this configuration on some of their Airbuses.
    It is nearly impossible for flight attendants to work in that tiny space with passengers lined up for the lavatory right where they are supposed to work. Shame on Iberia.

  • @l3v1ckUK
    @l3v1ckUK หลายเดือนก่อน

    Having done five hour flights on A321s, my biggest fear would be the spaceflex toilets at the back for economy passengers. The two rear toilets on BA are so narrow men (specifically) can't sit on them properly as the wall on one side, and the sink sticking out on the other, force your legs together, leaving no room for anything else (if you get my meaning). This is especially bad in the middle toilet. So men in economy class had best hope they don't need a poo.

    In 2008 I flew with Continental Gatwick to New York & return (Newark I think), this was on a single aisle 757. It was OK, there were issues eg when a passenger was taken ill, but I much prefer twin aisle aircraft for such long flights. My mot recent trip was with BA LHR - JFK on a 747. Much nicer, shame about the flight home 777 or 787 I can't recall.

    In my opinion, the comfort aspect on long- haul narrow-body aircraft should be a lot better. Iberia certainly has some fine tuning to do. I would actively try to avoid this aircraft.

    The A321neo XLR or LR are fine in Business Class, but Eco Passengers feel really cramped and trapped in their seats with only 1 aisle to get out. As an Eco Passenger I would always prefer a wide body plane for longhaul flights. I wasn't surprised that Iberia failed the call bell challenge in business class, Iberia crews are known for not being willing to work between regular mela services. 🙂 And I hate satellite terminals like 4S in Barajas for a reason. 😞

    Good thing Iberia has now your own tv. When I flew with my dad to Los Angeles with economy, they had no own entertainment at all! Only a big screen where you would watch what ever was up and the sound didn't even worked. It was the worst flight of my life!

    Narrowbody planes on long haul is a worrying trend. I hope airline customers will boycott them before it's too late and it becomes the norm on certain routes.

    • @tomstravels520

      For those certain routes only a narrow body can be justified for its use

      @@simondahl5437 nope, MAD-BOS was on A350 or A330 up until now. So it's a massive downgrade in terms of passenger comfort.

      @simondahl5437 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@FredFred-uj6no. All that means is that the widebodies weren't suited for the demand profile. Iberia probably couldn't fill their flights. Widebodies still have superior operating economics, so Iberia wouldn't have switched if they could reliantly fill their aircraft.

  • @cosmolake
    @cosmolake หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    7 hours in a single aisle airplane is not an improvement. Nearly everyone whoever flew on 707s and DC-8s is dead so the airlines are promoting these DVT machines as new and innovative. This is all three steps backward.

    Media types and reviewers can try and paint this as a nice new experience, but the reality is this is a poorer product for everyone on the plane. I will go out of my way to avoid narrow-body jets on anything longer than a four-hour hop. I think Liam was being too kind.

      30" pitch and 4"recline in economy? It's insulting. Widebodies will be 32" and 6" recline on similar routes. Just not good. One aisle, means it's difficult to get up for a stretch and a wander up the aisle on long haul flights. Just yuk yuk yuk...

      I’ve flown United economy transatlantic several times on both narrow body 757’s and wide bodies - 777, 787 and previously 747.
      I haven’t found much to dislike about the 757 narrow body as it’s got the same legroom as their wide bodies. However I hope United don’t mess up the galley and restrooms like Iberia when they roll out their A321XLR’s next year

      I mean if they can lower fares (either directly or indirectly by increasing number of flights) then I'd say it's a good deal. There are already numerous flights on narrow-body jets that are equally long or even longer inside the US or in Europe to the islands. These do not offer any meal service, have the same number of toilets, and people still don't complain.

    Flew Iberia Airbus Neo from London to Madrid. The seats did not recline and it's really a low cost airline now. After 2 1/2 hours it was tiring. We were offered a Business Upgrade for only 60 pounds / 80 dollars and I regretted not taking it. Don't like facing away from the windows. A lot of airlines don't have enough toilets and they are so small you can hardly move.
