1:57 "Michael, don't forget, I have no molecular bonded shell." 3:34 Wow, despite no molecular bonded shell, KITT still made that Turbo Boost landing in one piece without making a dent.
KITT supposedly has rockets launching it into the air and maybe helping steer it toward a controlled landing, and you wouldn’t make a car that can fly without making the suspension as strong as aircraft landing gear.
Old skool is so much better than anything on TV now. David really does a great job with this role. Even though it was bad acting and cheap effects, the series was fun and classic.
His acting was hammy at times but he did an amazing job of selling us on the whole talking car thing. He and William Daniels never shared a scene - in most of his interactions with KITT he was talking to himself. Daniels’ voice was dubbed in later on. Creating such on screen chemistry under those circumstances must have been a challenge.
Besides the introduction "Super pursuit mode" which, I always thought was visually interesting but aerodynamically ridiculous, the one thing that always stood out to me in this episode is that the "Juggernaut" was a modification of the "Roadox" from the 3D B-movie "Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone"
Is it really aerodynamically ridiculous? Looks kind of visually ridiculous to me... But wouldn't all those silly wings make more downforce? Not sure what all the stuff is supposed to be for guess there was no budget to make flames shoot out the back or something. Juggernaut reminds me of the Dildozer 🤣

Just imagine being a 6 or 7 year old kid and seeing KITT transform into Super Pursuit Mode for the first time! Everyone was talking about this at school the next day.
This is one of the extremely rare occasions in the series where Michael actually kills someone. And it is actually a violation of KITT's dominant program to take the action that ends up taking a human life.
KITT didn't kill anyone. KITT simply got out of the way. No sense in coming between two vehicles determined to get closer together. Why break up such a beautiful couple?
I guess universal added the same sound effects for Goliath and the this tank to add some drama to the series what ever good for Goliath is good for the armored tank 😆
I quite like the look of 'speed' when the new spm is shown driving along the freeway. It looks better than the usual 'just speed up the film' effect. Did the studio alter the frame rate?
I think the shots on the highway looked like they were done at high speed with no effects. But that shot toward the end where he crosses the dirt to block the plane, that looked 'sped up.' Back then they actually rolled the camera at 18 frames a second instead of 24 to get that sped up effect. I guess they do that when it's not totally safe to open KITT up. If you notice the one tracking shot of KITT on the highway, there's no other cars he's passing so they probably shut down the highway for that.
Ok, yeah that all makes sense. I did see the speed effect went really poor when they were at the airfield. In fact it looked painfully slow down the straight. All seen through my now adults eyes, of course.
FUN FACT: Contrary to popular belief, none of the S.P.M. cars survived after the end of the series. After the 1982 trainwreck derailment of new Camaros and Pontiacs that were damaged and written off, Universal Studios made a deal with Pontiac to use some of the damaged cars for the series allowing the production crew to use the cars anyway they wanted to. However, Pontiac's only stipulation was that all the cars used on the series that came from the trainwreck were mandated by Pontiac to be destroyed after the end of the series. After the series was over, a large wrecking ball was dropped on each car, and then they all went to the crusher.
They used to have one of the KITT cars on display at Universal Studios Hollywood. You could go in it and talk to KITT (I lined up for that and thought I was talking to the real KITT as a kid lol) they probably had a voice actor with a radio hiding nearby lol. Awesome show, one of the best from the 80s!
as a kid Super Pursuit Mode was cool, as an adult I realize. They decided to create a mode that actually makes the car LESS Aerodynamic and somehow that makes it go faster.
Grew up with this show as a kid. One of my favorites. My parents would only let me watch as many tv shows as I had A’s and B’s on my report card. This was my number one. Then the A-Team and Star Trek the Next Generation. Airwolf and Blue Thunder made the list sometimes. I’ve had the Knight Rider theme as my ring tone for years now
Man, I used to love this show and never asked any questions about any of it. XD Now I'm just sitting here laughing at how often KITT just launches into the air with the press of a button.
This was the season four premiere filmed in Chicago… You can clearly tell though at the airport scenes, it is southern California. You could see the mountains in the background, the smog, and the vegetation on the desert ground is clearly not anything you’d see by the Great Lakes. Not to mention, when KITT plots a course with the maps, it’s still the greater Southern California area and cities
The 80's and the legendary Knight Rider show. You couldn't go wrong when it was on T.V. The favourite battles of course, was K.I.T.T. vs. K.A.R.R. (both parts). K.I.T.T. vs Goliath And, K.I.T.T. vs Juggernaut. I also like how T.C. added the C button in K.I.T.T. to transform into a convertible 😊
Nice editing job showing them going the wrong way on Lake Shore Drive (they were going northbound through River North) in Chicago to an airport that was supposed to be Meigs Field (which is not south of Solider Field, it's east) and then they magically end up in Southern California, probably Van Nuys, for the airport. In no way does that airport look like it's in Chicago, speaking as a Chicago native.
Maybe KITT figured he had enough time to take the long way around the city since he could use super pursuit mode! Yeah, that airport was probably Van Nuys. There's a few episodes where he's supposed to be in other states. I think he was in Houston in one. The episode had a stock helicopter shot of Houston but after that it looked like Southern California.
It's Whiteman Airport. For a brief moment at 1:17 and again at 1:36, you can see the Four Stacks from the Valley Generation Station in the background. The camera is facing southeast, as that is a point of reference for aircraft to use to line up to land on runway 15 at Burbank.
well RC kinda did in Knight Song, Keith raise him and took care of RC and RC looked up to him, you could say that Keith was his evil double, i said KINDA.
Super Pursuit Mode is what killed it for me. It's supposed to make K.I.T.T. way faster but they took one of the most aerodynamically perfect cars ever made and added tons of drag to it. If they wanted to make an obvious transformation that would've also actually made the car faster and handle better, they should've had a series of panels come down and seal air out from under the car and also create front downforce and then have a retractable rear spoiler like you see on a lot of newer super cars to add rear downforce and keep the rear wheels planted to the ground.
@@Fayheurblode You don’t need to be an engineer or physicist to realize that having something protrude from a smooth surface creates aerodynamic drag 🤦🏻♂️
@@pirate772009 now, that’s common knowledge, but I am not sure if it was so widely known at the time… And I agree there were better ways to allow the car to be faster than putting so many things out in the airstream
It's a goofy 80s show about a jumping car and youre questioning why its not as sophisticated as modern cars aerodynamics. Realistically that model of the Trans Am could do 0 to 60 in about 9 seconds. So surely it isn't going 200 Mph regardless of the aeros, probably would have trouble getting past 130 mph. Sudpend disbelief and enjoy the goofy goodness.
You are entirely correct, but.... this is a show about a sentient car that has all sorts of features that only exist when they are needed, and then are replaced by others.... it supposedly has some sort of jet engine powering it, can jump 50 feet into the air without damaging anything on landing... and actually drove on water once. So... the only thing that mattered when it came to Super Pursuit Mode is that it looked cool.. and that it looked cool primarily to younger viewers who don't care too much about the science of aerodynamics. That said, I was about 12 or 13 when Knight Rider entered season four... and even then I recognized that this was just a gimmick to try to revive interest in a show with sagging ratings, and I didn't find it all that engaging.
ah maybe its cause the ram rod is a 25,000 pound tank, and KITT is 3,000 pounds, i dont care if that ram rod had F-16 after burners on the back it still wouldnt have caught up.
KITT in SPM is fast enough to keep up with a commercial airliner. The wings extended from the shell are intended to create downforce, to keep KITT from becoming airborne accidentally, similar to a spoiler on a race car.
problem is the wing is too small for it to have any effect and the shape is wrong, its basically a triangle, the ram scoops on the side are way too much drag... and the backend is just a disaster. Even if the front wing was proper the rear end of the car would undo all of it
It's so cute that for the higher speed pursuit mode, you push out a lot of body parts that don't help with the downforce and also make the drag coefficient worse at the same time :D
1. This was the only time Devon (Edward Mulhare’s) character & Michael (David Hasselhoff’s) characters were against each other. 2. I’ve always liked how Hasselhoff went back into his seat, feeling the “turbo/super pursuit mode) G-forces. 3. I became a fast runner watching “Knight Rider”.
@@javieress1 The bad guys kidnapped the real Devon & created a mask of Devon to fool FLAG, so Michael & Kitt had to foil the bad guys & get the right Devon back from them.

This sound when KITT passes the camera is forever burned into my memory. Anyone knows how the did it?
Just imagine being a 6 or 7 year old kid and seeing KITT transform into Super Pursuit Mode for the first time! Everyone was talking about this at school the next day.
This is one of the extremely rare occasions in the series where Michael actually kills someone. And it is actually a violation of KITT's dominant program to take the action that ends up taking a human life.
Mickey didn't kill. That dude just ran into a flammable truck himself. :D
KITT didn't kill anyone. KITT simply got out of the way. No sense in coming between two vehicles determined to get closer together. Why break up such a beautiful couple?
The guy probably didn't die, he was wearing a colour coordinate bowl-cut crash helmet.
@@plowe6751 The :D didn't give you a hint, righ?
there was no other way.
The tank has the same growling sounds as garthes truck!! 😁😆
Same sound effects Dept at Universal
Same sound as the truck in Duel as well.
Its a standard feature on all vehicles that can take down kitt
I guess universal added the same sound effects for Goliath and the this tank to add some drama to the series what ever good for Goliath is good for the armored tank 😆
5:07 If the Devin impersonator was going to give up that easy, he should have just turned himself in.
The Super Pursuit Mode is literally when Knight Rider Jumped the Shark. They turned a cool looking car into something ridiculous.
Can you elaborate? I only remember Knight Rider as an "awesome" part of my childhood.
@@bricaaron3978 Knight Rider was an awesome part of mine too. But after they added Super Pursuit Mode to an already great car, even I lost interest...
Thought it was epic as a kid, but those aerodynamics have not aged well.
it was the bomb when you're a kid from the 80s
@@RizandroNapone I was a kid from the '80s, but even I had to say BS as a kid... I was 15 in 1986 and when they added this rediculous feature....
Funny how KITT turned into the best teacher ever for Corey, Topanga, Eric and Shawn :)
Love Mr. Feenyyyyy!!! 💜
Stuff looked awsome.. seriously no words! 🍷🕶

Juggernaut is the vehicle from space hunter adventures in the forbidden zone
I was wondering about that. It seemed like a lot of work to fabricate such a vehicle for a single ep of Knight Rider
Great memories!!
Was that anti-assault vehicle SUPPOSED to look like an armored anteater on ATV tires? Blowing it up actually improved it immensely.
About 8-7 days ago the Knight rider 2000 turned 30 years old!
I only count the original 4 season show as canon. Everything else - including 2000 - under the name Knight Rider was trash.
Where does time go!
as a kid Super Pursuit Mode was cool, as an adult I realize. They decided to create a mode that actually makes the car LESS Aerodynamic and somehow that makes it go faster.
The Rule of Cool applies.
@@Obstinate28 When you got cool you don't need school. 😎
Like wearing shades at night.
It can go faster, _because_ it has more downforce with the wings. Otherwise more speed would just make it unwieldy.
SPM sounds 80’s don’t it man I was born in 74 all these shows were the bomb
Love the "rocket explosion" sound when super pursuit mode activates. LOL
I need a Knight Rider and Fast and Furious cross over. That would be cool! 😃
I grew up watching KITT from the mid to late 1980's...👍👍
Michael Knight: Let's Hit Super Pursuit Mode Again.
KITT: By All Means.
Grew up with this show as a kid. One of my favorites. My parents would only let me watch as many tv shows as I had A’s and B’s on my report card. This was my number one. Then the A-Team and Star Trek the Next Generation. Airwolf and Blue Thunder made the list sometimes.
I’ve had the Knight Rider theme as my ring tone for years now
KITT: Michael, the plane!
Michael: Gotcha, pal.
I love it when kitt says "oh good!" When michael says its time to go into super presuit mode
The "tank" looks like it came from the movie Spacehunter: Adventures in the Forbidden Zone
Exactly what I was gonna post. Retread lol.
Man, I used to love this show and never asked any questions about any of it. XD
Now I'm just sitting here laughing at how often KITT just launches into the air with the press of a button.
"TURBO!!" K.I.T.T. launches 20 feet in the air, no ramp.
glen a larson knew how to make things fly
😂😂lol
thats why it is KITT
This was the season four premiere filmed in Chicago… You can clearly tell though at the airport scenes, it is southern California. You could see the mountains in the background, the smog, and the vegetation on the desert ground is clearly not anything you’d see by the Great Lakes. Not to mention, when KITT plots a course with the maps, it’s still the greater Southern California area and cities
Michael and KITT are my heroes ❤️
Why cant TV be cool like this anymore!? Real explosions. Real cars. Real planes! Real ego!
I love the flap on the roof that goes straight up, like that actually helps the car stop faster. LOL
Street Hawk had the same system. Just as laughable.
Remeber watching Knight rider when I was a kid, and had a good memories. But now I am barely managing to watch it through this short clip 😂
The 80's and the legendary Knight Rider show. You couldn't go wrong when it was on T.V.
The favourite battles of course, was K.I.T.T. vs. K.A.R.R. (both parts).
K.I.T.T. vs Goliath
And, K.I.T.T. vs Juggernaut.
I also like how T.C. added the C button in K.I.T.T. to transform into a convertible 😊
The well known desert mountains of Chicagoland
Also when Michael asks KITT to plot a course, KITT flashes a Thomas Guide of the Los Angeles metro area.
It’s definitely not Chicago considering the mountain it shows in the background.
Before Tony Stark, we have Michael Knight first who learns from his mistakes. 😅😂🤣😄
Stark is before Knight's time lmao
ironman came out in the 60s. i dont think we would have any tech show including this show if it where not for ironman.
i love SPM but the 300+ mph on city streets was just overkill
he never went 300+ in this episode, only went up to 250mph in SPM.
LOLLL
The Kitt voice in English is like little robotic accent and his voice in Spanish is nice, manly and deep, very polite!!!
Love how everyone had a evil double except April & RC
well RC kinda did in Knight Song, Keith raise him and took care of RC and RC looked up to him, you could say that Keith was his evil double, i said KINDA.
I’m in my early fifties and it still excites me when I see KITT transform into his new mode
Dude. You need to get out more.
Sadly they didn't exactly have aerodynamicists on the show, afaik
KITT deserves to be a transformer like Optimus Prime ❤❤❤
This does exist!!!
It’s amazing how KITT can maneuver so well in Super Pursuit Mode.
Everyone’s OG during the fast rewind🤣🤣🤣
Man, it didn't take much to impress us when we were kids!!! TURBO!
Did he ever got back the molecular bonded shell after repairs and reconstruction ?
He did.
Later on most likely..
they never said, Bonnie just said she added some functions but it wont make up for the "lost" of the molecular bonded shell
and a convertable mode
Ah, the memories; and to think I can relive them anytime I want since purchasing the series on DVD.
2:55 - how did the ram rod not catch up lol! 😂 the wonders of TV editing
Quick acceleration.
ah maybe its cause the ram rod is a 25,000 pound tank, and KITT is 3,000 pounds, i dont care if that ram rod had F-16 after burners on the back it still wouldnt have caught up.
ナイトライダー大好き!!憧れの車だよ!!
KITT in SPM is fast enough to keep up with a commercial airliner. The wings extended from the shell are intended to create downforce, to keep KITT from becoming airborne accidentally, similar to a spoiler on a race car.
It's pretty neat. That downward force also improves handling by increasing the grip of tires to the road. KITT definitely needed that.
@@GarretGrayCamera yeah
That's one thing about George and Sam Barris. Knowing them, they knew their custom mods, and knew how to make them functional.
problem is the wing is too small for it to have any effect and the shape is wrong, its basically a triangle, the ram scoops on the side are way too much drag... and the backend is just a disaster.
Can't remind Devon was the villain in this episodes...will watch again
@@javieress1 The bad guys kidnapped the real Devon & created a mask of Devon to fool FLAG, so Michael & Kitt had to foil the bad guys & get the right Devon back from them.
@@krypton7676 thank you for memories
If you don't count "Knight in Disgrace" where Michael is undercover and has to "kill" Devon.
It was so popular in the 80s. People would watch this David Hasselhoff show.
When you are old, you realize "Super Pursuit Mode" is just what they call a Tuesday on a German Autobahn
I seem to notice everytime Michael and KITT go up against a vehicle such as Juggernaut or Goliath it always has the sound effects of monsterous beasts.
Was the camera truck equipped with Spm too?😆
Real explosion, no cgi.
Juggernaut was a beast
KITT loved his new looks. Especially Super Pursuit Mode. 😅😅
