    I also heard Trump in a campaign say something about cleaning up the homeless with resources and forces them off the street. I know there are people that are truly homeless living on the street, but will this include people living in their vehicle that can move that vehicle around? I'm taking Nomads that want to do this. He stated that if the homeless do not take the resource approach they will place them in mental institutions where they need to be since their thinking homelessness is ok to do. He stated these people are mental and deranged.
    I am going to travel at 62. I have a mobile home and belonging but I am selling everything and seeing things I have never seen before. Then I am saving to buy a small amount of land and placing a tiny home on to live out the rest of my life when I can't drive anymore. I technically will be houseless, but not an addict of some sorts. I guess if push comes to shove I could see if my family or a friend will let me use their address, so I can say I have a physical address.

      I do not think people who live in vehicles will be in danger of being rounded up. But following the Supreme Court's decision in thr Grant's Pass case involving homeless I believe there is a much less tolerant climate for van dwellers. Buying land to live on is a good idea. Just make sure to check the zoning guidelines first.

      I have the same concerns. But Donald Trump talks a lot about what he wants to do. These things will take way more than four years, and besides every election, the winds turn in a different direction. It will make everybody who lives in their vehicle experts at stealth living. But should things turn for the worse for us nomads I’m seriously thinking about going to the Philippines, where I can actually live very well on the US dollar.

    I met a 80 yr old woman living in her car with her dog.. her battery had expired and she was waiting n the sun 4 a jump... I went back 2 the parking lot where she was parked and she's still there...😢😢. I gave her my jackery and some window shades.. two fans to keep her cool...she said she's been unhoused for a month. Her house got foreclosed on and her daughter put her... She said she gets a social security check.. it's the only way she is surviving.. 😢. We exchanged numbers.. I offered money and food 4 her and her dog.. but she said they were ok...times r very hard.. I can't believe 80yr olds r living n cars.. I'm a part time nomad myself and live with family part time and work .. or I would offer the lady a room.

It reaches a point where there’s so much pressure on my lungs and my heart that it mimics a heart attack and I have to get pulled away in an ambulance, and then I have to convince the people that it’s indigestion and if they don’t give me something I won’t be breathing for very long. I reach a point where I can’t even talk so I am going on some meds and maybe take something for Strauss I’m deeply concerned about our country And not a simple answer you wrote a comment. It can come up and burn your throat. It’s so strong that acid in your stomach so it’s something that has to be and healed there’s a lot of people 20% of Americans have Gerd and it’s no joke. It can kill you anyway thanks for your concern. I’m on top of it. I’m smart and I’ll be going to Sedona for about 10 days Flagstaff and Prescott to see family it’s gonna be fun, I’m just keeping it cool right now. I know everyone is fearful of the unknown but here are some real facts: Social Security will have to be addressed at some point because at it's current trajectory it will be depleted in 2033. What will likely happen is that the Full Retirement Age will go up, but it will be phased in over time and not effect those that are currently on SS. It will be similar to when the Full Retirement Age was moved up in 1983 from 65 to 67, which gradually moved up over 22 years, and will be for future retirees. Additionally, the FICA tax (which funds SS) amount charged to current workers will likely increase. These two things will ensure SS will still be there for a long time into the future. Also, Trump campaigned on no more SS taxes for Seniors' SS distributions. With regards to the insulin copay cost of $35 Trump did that originally back in May 2020 (look it up), Biden came in and cancelled all of Trump's policies and then redid the $35 insuin copay so that he could claim that he did it.
    The last thing I will point out is that by reopening drilling for oil (energy) and getting the US out of all the wars not only will the the US be bringing in more money from selling our oil to other countries it will drive the cost of everything else we buy down because the energy to make and move stuff will be cheaper which trickles down to the cost we pay. With the Military Industrial Complex being over 13% of the Federal budget at $820 Billion, once we start getting out of all these wars the amount needed to fund the bloated budget will decrease. Finally, with all of these steps it will first start decreasing the $35 Trillion debt and even more impactfully cause the government to stop printing trillions more in money, which is the primary cause of the 20-30% inflation we are all living under. Trump has said over and over he is not taking away SS.

    The problem I've always had with America is that the powers that be has done a good job of brainwashing the average citizen into believing that if a person is poor or if they're a senior and don't get enough SSI, that it's their fault for not planning better. One of the biggest issues in this country is this mistaken believe that everyone can just be business owners and make a lot of money and if you didn't do that, you were lazy or were just living above their means. I've had many conversations with people about this ideology, and what were their plans if either they or their spouse were hit with a serious illness or if they were in a car accident and the other person didn't have insurance, or the worst is, what if their job got bought out and they found out that the new company would be eliminating their pensions - all things that has happened to people I know who once were doing very well and now find themselves struggling. Some people having to sell their homes to pay medical bills. They just still stick to their skewed logic and often these are people who were very fortunate to have retired with a healthy SSI along with a pension, like my father did, who long paid off their homes and only have to pay property taxes. Or, they were fortunate to have built a business in a time when it was very lucrative and they just happened to be good at it. For me, I began working back in the 80s when law firms were very abundant and a great place to work. Now, I'm the last of my kind. I only have a small business college degree, but I see these firms wanting people to do the jobs of 3-4 people and only pay them for 2, and want a Bachelors. You don't need that to do office work. As far as this upcoming administration, I'm not happy that both the House and the Senate are Republican because we should have at least one of each for checks and balances. There will be no balance now. And if they begin cutting funding and reducing benefits for people, our peers will just tell us we should have planned better because many humans are selfish like that. If they're doing well, they think it's just due to their hard work alone, but fail to see that others may have worked just as hard or harder. I'll just plan for the worst and hope for the best.

But people have lost the power of critical thinking skills - they parrot what they're told to think. Senate and House - and the SCOTUS was "stacked" ahead of time. It's mind boggling how a portion of our population is continually convinced to vote against their own best interests. I wouldn't mind it if 'they' went down - justice served -but they're taking the rest of us with them. The rest of the world looks at us with utter dismay and shock - and I don't blame them. What have we become?? United we stand. Divided we fall. It reminds me of an old Pogo cartoon that struck a note and stayed with me ---"I have seen the enemy. And he is us"

      Wow. So you're all getting your news from the left wing propagandists at the View, BBC, MSNBC, CNN, and worse. Stop listening to the Marxists! Real fact checkers and real information sources say quite the opposite. China ha said they want to work with us, Hamas ceased fire, Russia and the Ukraine are now working on a de-escalation, Argentina, El Salvador, Germany, the indigenous people of the UK, and a great many more have all been calling to congratulate and talk with Trump and he has been calling them. Good lord you think you'd learn from the first time and we had prosperity and world peace his first term in spite of the Dems strangling Congress getting in the way. Your fears say you're good with infanticide, butchering kids, pedophiles in schools, child porn, crushing debt, globalists, foreign invasion, cartels killing millions, Marxism, political prisoners, violent crime, and worse.

    I worry first for those who are at immediate risk, pregnant women who now cannot get the basic healthcare they need in emergency situations. My heart aches for the families who have lost loved ones so needlessly and in such a cruel draconian way, denying them emergency life saving care until they are so near death that the odds of them surviving are greatly diminished.

      Although I am against abortion, as I consider it a civil rights matter. Two sets of absolute rights, a woman to have control over her body.and a baby to have the right to live, are in opposition. So, I stand on the side of the most vulnerable one who doesn't have a voice. We habe historically had laws that protect the elderly, disabled, children whonare thr most vulnerable among us.It is a very complicated matter. However, having said that I am horrified at the stories of women being denied care who may be miscarrying as a result of medical staff being in fear of the consequences. This is inhumane. Some women have lost their lives or have sustained such harm they will be able to have children. There has to be a better solution.

      @@gloriouslifeonwheels3621 I love your approach to this entire topic, situation. I do believe everything should be done to protect both the fetus and the mother. Unfortunately there is no way to ban abortion. Abortion has so many medically complicated variables and the list of exceptions you would need to write into the law would be a mile long and would still miss many circumstances. It's the time the hospital must take to now figure out the legal ramifications of a woman's healthcare, waiting for the lawyers response on if they can do the emergency procedure or not is the problem. Abortion is part of basic women's healthcare. Like every mammal, our reproductive system also regularly preforms its own natural selection, which many times requires medical intervention. It's just too complicated to be a political issue. There is no way to ban abortion, there is only a way to ban safe abortions which is a woman's basic civil right.

    Carol, you always show up as kind and diplomatic, open minded, and with a real concern for others. Just the qualities I would love to see more of in our political representatives! I share your concerns and many of the concerns shared in the comments. The policies outlined in the document if enacted as written would be disastrous for me for a number of reasons, chronic illness, low income, from SS only. Yikes. I remain hopeful that some states and organizations such as ACLU, AARP and more have stepped up and declared that they will do all they can do to stop the enactment of such policies in the courts. I think that for all of us, all ages, genders, and ideologies, we will need to develop and use mutual aid of some kind, many kinds, as we navigate an uncertain future. What gives rise to the most fear in me is my years of experience as a Palm Beach, FL.Harpist. I spent many years in the late 80's and through the 90's performing for elite gatherings, charity balls, afternoon teas, weddings, dinners, and brunches. It was seasonal work and I almost made a living from it, but, I really couldn't keep doing it. Here is the reason why. The society of the very wealthy is extremely disconnected from the rest of the world. I wasn't really seen as a person, I was more like a piece of furniture. Those who are outside that very small and elite social group are not given any importance or regard. We are considered more animal than human, and our fate is merely collateral damage to their ambitions. Sometimes we are useful servants, and/or consumers, at other times we are cast away. Historically, whenever we have stood together for our mutual good and well being, as in the Civil Rights movement, have we been able to enshrine our humanity as the law of the land. We have to keep doing that, making our voices heard, standing for and with each other. And we must keep voting, and holding our politicians accountable for their policy decisions and how they affect us.

    Thank you so much for your concern, your love and the information you disseminate. I just want to add my opinion, and that is nothing more than my opinion. I have been retired 7 years, I opted for a Medicare Advantage Plan since I retired. At my age 71, I have had many illnesses, and I have always been grateful to have had the Medicare Advantage Plan. First I pay NO premium, what I do is save what I would have paid in premiums for any medical expenses I might have. The advantage plan covers my dental, vision and hearing costs, not entirely, but a good portion of the cost. I have used the money I saved from the premiums to cover my portion of the costs, and I still have not depleted my medical savings. There are no doctors or specialists that my PPO does not cover on my plan. I wanted you to have the perspective of another senior that has no other medical benefit other than the Advantage Plan. I have a supplemental plan. I have received, literally, daily including weekends, marketing calls with tons of incentives to change to an advantage plan. I have scrimped to pay and keep my current plan. My research, and I might be incorrect, reflects that many seniors who left a supplemental plan now find that many advantage plans are not accepted by many doctors, hosptials as well as eliminating coverage for cancer and many other very expensive medical costs. As each state has different coverage criteria for a particular plan I would encourage any senior planning to leave a supplemental plan to check out the details of the plan they are considering as well as PCP's and hospitals in their areas before switching. Based on the massive, expensive and lengthy marketing of the advantage plans to move folks out of supplemental plans or new medicare recipients to go with the advantage plan on the basis of other monetary perks, doesn't sit right with me. Nothing is 'free'. Each person needs to carefully evaluate their individual situation and determine what they are most comfortable with. I felt the need to express this as it seems many folks have possibly been led down the wrong path. Just my humble opinion! So please don't shoot the messenger, just check out the facts for yourselves.

    Regarding our allies in NATO, The Russian pipeline was blown up, which provided cheap energy to Europe. Europe was then forced to purchase energy from the US. Now car companies in Germany are closing plants and moving some of their plants to the US. So yes, we do hear murmurs that some European countries don't want to continue to follow behind the US when it is not in their best interest. If the dollar is the worlds' trade standard you probably shouldn't weaponize it. If countries can't access their funds that they have in US financial institutions sooner or later their going to look for an alternative. Not only can they not access it, they just take. it from them, some folks might call that theft. Two thirds of the world's sanctions are imposed by the US. My understanding is that if the election had gone the other way, Social Security would likely have come completely to an end. And as far as SNAP and LIHEAP those benefits have already taken big cuts due to so much money going out to provide for illegals. I know I've already experienced big cuts in those two programs in the last year! As you said, all we can do is watch and pray. Tightening the belt is never comfortable. One thing I believe regardless of which way the election went is seniors need to start seriously considering shared housing and many others as well. There appears that there will be a move to privatize Social Security and Medicare ( all Medicare would be private Medicare Advantage plans). I have heard that by 2030-35 Federal /Funds for Social Security will be so low that our SS benefits will have to be cut by 17%. I also have a concern that funding for HUD will be cut and funding for low income, tax credit and Sec8 housing will be cut for housing rent assistance for low income seniors, disabled, and low income people. Do they ever think of cutting funding for the Military Industrial Complex and funding wars and excessive military? I personally believe that a Medicare for All program as Burnie Sanders always talks about with expanded benefits for Dental, Hearing, and Eye would be the best benifit program for all under $200,000 income.

      @gloriouslifeonwheels3621  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I believe many of the cuts you wrote about are distinct possibilities. As far as SS I think it will be death by a dozen cuts starting out with raising the age for full benefits to at least 69 and cutting the maximum benefits for those signing up in 2026. Based on how those changes are received will likely determine just how far things will go. But it is really all up in the air for now.

    • @janiswilliams2766
      @janiswilliams2766 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DearestDawnfirst I grew up struggling working class, there were no frills in our household. From the age of 16 I’ve never not worked even through college.
      The Bush economic disaster in my 40s was a very eye opening experience for me and a reminder for me, from my father that this country will never do anything for me. I built back my savings that I lost under the Bush admin (2006-2008) by increasing my savings amount from saving 12% every month to 20% and then over a number of years eventually to 25-27%. I never saw that money it was taken directly out of my paycheck and directly went to my savings. Every time I got any increase in money, raises for example, or if there were no raises COLAS, I put all but 1- 1.5% of it in savings, when there were no increases I still put in an extra .5% - in short earning less money than I was making for several years. So in other words I kept my same lifestyle despite making more money. I drove the same car (Toyota Camry) for 23 years. There were periods where I also took on an additional part time job to buy a new car, or pay for a vacation etc. in the early 90s I worked 3 jobs for several years to build up enough of a down payment for a condo.
      Under Obama the financial market finally stabilized and started getting soo much better. Building back all the losses I had in 2008.
      I saved A LOT of money during Covid because we were in lockdown. Gas was lower because the market was flooded with fuel no one was driving, flying, cruising. Whatever frivolous shopping I did (Shepora, manicures, crafts, going to movies whatever) I didn’t spend any money. I couldn’t go out and eat, which saved a ton of money. I didn’t do door dash or any food delivery service so I didn’t have those kinds of costs.
      So when things started to get going again Post Covid when people were using way more gas, traveling, causing shortages because production needed to be amped up, bird flue affecting the cost of chicken and eggs, production slow downs in other countries (took them longer to recover than us) affecting the cost of imports/goods here etc. The stuff that caused inflation affected me but I wasn’t devastated because I maintained the lifestyle I had during Covid. I didn’t go back to frivolous shopping, I ate at home more, friends hung out at friends homes and cooked and didn’t spend money on eating out going to shows etc.
      CD % rates because of inflation were relatively good during these last years of Biden, not as good as I remember them when I was a kid but the rates are really good for our times. I took a portion of my savings and locked them into 5% for 2,3,4 and five years, laddering my accounts so that if I need it I’ll have money accessible once every year. Also, because of the economic stability and improvement over the last couple of years under Biden my IRA did better as well as if not better than it did under Obama.
      For the most part I expect that the interest rates will continue to go down or at least stabilize and the market will stay sane as long as trump doesn’t do stupid stuff. If he implements tariffs, keep cutting tax rates more than he already did for the top 1% and big businesses, and actually deports all the millions of people he’s talking about the economy will again be in a perfect to crash and likely crash worse than it did under Bush. And that effects everything. For those who need charity related services, food assistance etc .. people and corporations who typically donate will not have the money to donate towards those services and everything will cost more for what those charities have to purchase.
      So, for the potentially dark days ahead and my personal opinion is that there will be. I’m back to saving every piece of change again and looking at where I can possibly cut back (example a couple of years ago I talked a friend into going in a $30/mo inc taxes and fees cell phone plan, no longer offered). For cable I call every 6 months for rates, I call my bank and ask for them to lower my interest rate, but I usually pay my credit card every month. In the event I don’t or can’t I want my interest rate as low as possible. Until Covid I was able to keep my main card between 5 and 7 percent for 20 years. During the inflation with Covid it increased but every time the feds decreased the rate I call my bank. I’m now at 9.97%. Since the feds just dropped the rate again this week, I’ll be calling my bank again.
      I don’t qualify for discounts on utilities etc but when my father was alive when he became older and didn’t want to deal with that kind of stuff I was calling his cable company, phone company, bank card etc to get better rates. He was able to save money during Covid because the PPp money for businesses kept food service businesses open during Covid (to keep people working and earning money) but the food, primarily through small family restaurants was delivered to seniors. It was all free for them. He was able to save a lot of money from that time because he couldn’t go anywhere either. You have to know your resources and know how they work. I will finally add that I live in a very blue area of a blue state so there is really an effort to help those who are less able to help themselves. The environment where I live also doesn’t have a seething hate about others, so people are not inclined to screw themselves because they think someone else is getting something they aren’t.

    Carol - you are the first You Tube other than a recipe or someone positive like Dr. Mandell, that I've listened to since the election. When scrolling through You Tube's to watch, I see nothing but depressing things about the election to make me worry. I was afraid of this. I know you probably didn't mean to overlook others who are not "poor" but I don't think I'm poor but I would say I struggle in that I don't get to splurge much. I am very worried for the middle class. I start Medicare at the end of next year...I have been paying very high premiums for medical and try to work things out myself instead of going to the Dr, just waiting to get on Medicare, but I'm worried they will change that before I get my benefits. I sacrifice and not spend spend spend, so that I can delay ss longer for a bigger check...but will they push that out further where my waiting meant nothing? My financial concerns are my first worries but there's also the concern about women's issues. It's like the me2 movement went backwards and there is ugly rhetoric by white nationalist men saying things like "your body, my choice" (and this is not in reference to termination of a pregnancy). But when a leader says cruel things and normalizes it, what does anybody expect? I'm afraid of the people who will be pardoned out of prison by the president elect who will be pardoned. I'm trying to be as polite as I can but these are my fears. It's not just the poor that have a lot to lose. While I appreciate that your video was very kind and professional, I think I will stay off you tube awhile longer because talking about this is just making me more fearful. I wish I could watch a video that would inspire me and empower me. There don't seem to be any after the election. Thank you Carol.

    Thank you Carol for your thoughtful videos. If our leaders want to reduce the deficit, they could just reduce the military budget that was $800 billion+ in 2023 by a few billion and they would not have to touch Social Security or Medicare and we would still be spending more on the military than Russia or China. Congress could also reduce the deficit by making rich people pay their fair share of taxes. I am an old lady, but I will fight for seniors and the poor as long as I live.
    I am sad to say that I don't think our country will heal anytime soon when the president-elect has called POWs losers, insulted Goldstar families and doesn't understand why honorable citizens join the military. Saying nasty things about women and people that don't look like him doesn't help either. Too much damage has been done. Over time we will heal.
    I am hopeful that as Americans we will help each other, our neighbors, our veterans, our children and anyone in need, no matter where they come from. 1. You swallowed pure propaganda with those proven-false claims. Stop slandering without doing your homework and turn off CNN and MSN.
      2. You seem fine with conservatives as a whole being called stupid, garbage, worthless, and our homes, lands, farms, rights, and votes being taken away and handed off to wealthy foreign investors, so you're a more than a bit hypocritical. The red of this country are the genuinely kind ones whereas the past 4 years has proved that the left is only peaceable and kind to their own and only if they capitulate to the abuse and group-think. Thanks to the same powers in control these past 4 years who put us on the brink of WW3, we cannot afford to reduce our military spending. What we can cut is the left's demands we pay for all their special projects and graft. No more funds for illegals, no more SSI for illegals, no more welfare for able-bodied, able-minded working age. No more funding nonprofits and tax breaks on the take like megachurches, China's and the UAE's cover agencies, corporations, and the NFL, not taxing criminals' ill gains like we did Al Capone, and Catholic Charities using it for human trafficking. The rich all the way down to the middle class pay way more than their fair share, those getting all the "poor perks" do not, often getting back far more than they put in--a flat tax of 15% from all with no deductibles would fix the real fairness issue. Terminating salary pay for all employees so they can get overtime again and put more people back to work will help immensely.

    Just to be CLEAR, the poor have been multiplying under the current administration. with all the immigration we will only have MORE issues, Since the current party did NOT have the best candidate to Win this, and by the way Primaries never happened, or I would have been happy to vote. Healing begins with working on a grassroots level to make our world a better place. I am not on either side.. I changed my status to Independent after being a Dem for 18 years.. I am NOT happy about the changes in the parties... I really don't see either side ... I hope that we all come out better than we imagine we will... I think we are all very concerned about retirement and Social Security right now... I hope you do not have to delete anyone , because unless we listen to opinions that are not our own, we can never truly understand each other. BLESSINGS!! I do love your channel for many reasons... especially concerning what we CAN do about our living situations. THANK YOU!

      We have every reason to be scared, and those are the same concerns I have, as well as the education of our kids since he will begin defunding public education almost immediately. It is tragic! I live in Texas where our governor is doing his best to destroy public education. So many kids get two meals a day at work, they are cared for at school, and their parents know that as public school teachers, we give everything we can to our students.

NOTHING is normal anymore. Thank you for giving your all to these kids. They are the future - if there even IS a future worth living.

    I have heard various opinions on this - from both ends of the spectrum. Some say that the election results will be a positive, others are saying that it means very negative things for the future. (of poor seniors and the disabled) I prefer to remain positive - but I do believe that SSI and SSDI needs to be brought up to a livable level - the 2.5% COLA raise is ridiculous and helps no one. There also needs to be more assistance for the disabled who are between the ages of 55-65 and their health is steadily deteriorating, but they cannot get better benefits until the age of 65. There are OTC debit cards that are a big help - but this is only available to those on Medicare- what about those who only get Medicaid and aren't yet old enough to get Medicare?

    My hope is that the President elect will put wise people in places of power and trust them to do what’s right for Americans. My hope is that he listens to us and acts according to what the people say. After all, the people trusted him enough to choose him. He should return the favor and trust us. We aren’t greedy. We just want what’s fair. I’m a widow living in an RV, but not a nomad. Yet. If the rent goes any higher in my RV park I will end up on the street as well.
