6 hard truths about the miserable side of van life & rv living
Hello Glowbies,
So many contact me on a daily basis telling me they are considering or are actually going to become a nomad either living in their car or some other vehicle. Most often it is due to financial hardship and many times is a senior living on a meager social security check. In this video I address some of the hard truths about living in an rv, camper or car and boondocking. It is not all sunsets and pina coladas.. There are a number of hardships to life as a nomad that I think many considering this lifestyle do not consider but should. Do let me know in the comments if you agree with the challenges I bring up in this video and share others you may have faced.
And hit that LIKE button if you would😊

Will you be safe in your camper, rv or home after the election? Be prepared
มุมมอง 12K14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
Tensions are high in our country and people are on edge. Probably no one more so than folks who live in vans, rvs and campers and have to find safe.parking every night boondocking on public streets, sometimes in large cities. Rhetoric, often hateful, is on the rise and folks are concerned and even scared about what may happen on the streets in this country following the election in November. Th...

There was so much interest.in the possible shed to tiny home I shared during a recent trip to Costco that I am showing you some other tiny house options. In this video I highlight 3 DIY wood tiny house kits you can build yourself. They appear to be pretty sturdy. Shocking truths: Senior veterans discarded & forgotten?
มุมมอง 6K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
With Memorial Day approaching I thougjt what better time than to highlight a veteran. We here more and more about seniors who are homeless and living as nomads not by choice. Many of them are veterans who have honorably served this country. Some are sleeping on pavements or in tents under overpasses. More fortunate older veterns have a van or other kind of vehicle they uses as a camper to live ...
$20 minimum wage in California: blessing or curse hurting 1000's?
มุมมอง 3.5K14 วันที่ผ่านมา
Everyone knows how expensive it is to live in California. It is no secret. The cost of housing, extra taxes and fees on gasoline and more have made it difficult for those working at low paying jobs to afford the basic necessities. Politicians are touting the new $20 an hour minimum wage for fast food workers as a magic bullet that will greatly improve the lives of those workers. But I ask, "Is ...
A Tiny House for under $800!! Could you live in it?
มุมมอง 59K21 วันที่ผ่านมา
I was walking thru Costco.mindimg my own business when a tiny house practically jumped out and grabbed me. (slight exaggeration...🤣) It was actually a shed but I immediately saw the potential for a cheap option for a tiny home that a solo senior nomad could put up quickly on a piece of land. It was certainly bigger inside than a minivan conversion and could fit just about anywhere. It beat camp...

God bless you for sharing your valuable experiences which save people unneeded grief. i lived in my van for a semester while I finished classes and moves out of state. And I realized the inconveniences were too great of change to Nomad lifestyle If I was on the road that much I would become a truck driver and good dough and home on wheels. Why not? And then all of those issues you mention would disappear. You have a well thought out lifestyle with a solid home base. Very intelligent move Be Safe..

Excellent video about the reality. I’ve never had problems with money until I got sick. I had a great insurance but I still had a medical debt of over $100k when everything was done. I was fortunate to go back to school and earn my masters while I recovered so my next job paid double my salary. It still took me an entire year to pay down that debt.

I think one of the most important things you said was try to make friend. Join travel groups. Attend meet ups. I do well alone but it's more fun to be with people. And yes. You have to have a budget and a savings. Money gets tight find a place to stay a little longer.

I have a friend heading in this direction. She is in denial right now. She's been living off her mom's social security for years and has pretty much burned her bridges by not working and asking everyone around her for money while she makes foolish purchases. When her mom dies, she'll be out in the streets because she's done nothing to prepare for that moment. Not saying that's what happened with these other people living in vans, but it's a hard lesson to prepare for the future even if you think you have people who will help you, because they may not or may not be in a position to help you.

One reason I never did buy a van and go on the road was because I was terrified of breaking down somewhere in the boonies with no cell signal. I just can't even imagine how scary that would be for me, in my 70s. I have no desire to travel full time, but I've never seen any of the country, so it would be nice to do a little traveling. I can't afford too much traveling. I may be forced to live in my tin little subcompact car soon, if they raised my rent too high. I'm afraid now, because I really have no savings and I haven't received my rent renewal for this year. If they don't renew my rent, I''ll be in big trouble I certainly don't want to be homeless living in my car in the summer.

My biggest problem with van life is camping in the Summer. I cannot handle the heat. I went to Pikes Peak in Co in July (high altitude) and it was beyond hot and mosquitos. I had Cookie then and we just packed up and went home. Cookie couldn't handle the heat either. My heart goes out to people who don't have a sticks and bricks in the Summer time. I don't mind the Winter. I love the cold, but I don't know what I'd do if I had to go full time and survive the Summer. It's also a big concern when traveling with animals. If you get sick, who will care for your animals. So many things to think about. Nomad life is great, but there are many things to consider. Excellent subject Carol. ❤❤❤

Great video, honest and with no sensationalism. But most of these problems arise from either a person being dumb enough to not do research and prepare at all, or being an - excuse me - absolute idiot who doesn't know how basic budgeting works. Isolation? Prepare, test it out, check for yourself. Running out of money? Learn to count. Sorry if it sounds harsh, these are all valid points, but oh my God some people live in a fairy land and expect things to go smoothly for them... 🤦 Much love from Sydney Australia

Well said!!!!!! A lot of TH-camrs make that life look exciting and rules and laws are being implemented against this life. They then go buy land themselves and those that they have led or influenced are stuck out like chuck after they have left what they have to support others on their channel to buy what they want. Vicious cycle. I believe that the camping videos are glamping and not camping or survival. These are my thoughts and it was left as a comment and not a debate. Your wisdom needs to be heard more!!!!!!

There are a lot of videos glamorizing the lifestyle. There are, however, some accurate videos too. I think the ones with sunsets and pina coladas are folks who are just in the life for a short time or have substantial assets so they basically are taking their homelike on the road. Most do not have that luxury and are making the choice to be nomads because of financial struggles, especially older women.

I love traveling in my Van, I am very grateful I do not have to live in it. One of the things I enjoy about traveling in the Van is that I do not have the luxuries of home. So, when I get back, I appreciate the convenience of a hot shower etc. One of the things that would stop me from this lifestyle is the difficulty of finding a place to park. I am always willing to pay, but State Parks and such are booked months in advance. I think for me and me only, this lifestyle would just be too much for me to try and handle. In the meantime, however, I love camping and taking trips to State, County and National Parks and plan to do this for as long as I can.

    • @gloriouslifeonwheels3621
      @gloriouslifeonwheels3621 14 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

Thr parking can really be a challenge. As you noted, the state parks, national Forests and even many private campgrounds are booing hpinths in advance. Summer beach area campsites open up for reservations 8 months in advance and are booked within a couple of minutes.
