- The performance of the two drivers at the Mercedes F1 team has been under scrutiny this season. There has been a lot of surprise at the performance difference between George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, especially in qualifying where George has out-qualified Lewis 8 to 1 for Grand Prix’s. Theories as to why this is have been as wild as they have been wide ranging. From a lack of motivation, to set-up mistakes due to being sidelined, to Mercedes turning down Hamilton’s engine power, rumours have covered every possible base. However an email sent to F1 media, supposedly from a Mercedes team member, has thrown petrol onto the smouldering fire by claiming that Mercedes team members loyal to Lewis are sick of the team sabotaging the seven time world champion and outlined how they are doing it. Today I’ll check out the shocking claims, whether there could be any truth behind them, and what it means for the Mercedes team, so don’t go anywhere.

There have been too many suspect things with respect to merc’s strategy, tires, etc as it relates to Lewis for it to be anything other than sabotage. I don’t buy for a second that the 8 time world champion suddenly has lost his ability to qualify well and finish ahead of george. Even Stevie wonder could see that something shady is going on at Merc.

When a slow driver gets out of the way of someone, the gap can quickly get to 1s in a lap.
We've seen this dozens of times.
Once Lewis got out of the way, Max pushed hard and not only does what he does best which is drive fast, his team does what it does better than anyone else and that is make a quick pitstop.

Why would MB sabotage LH? It's in their financial interest for him to score as many points as possible. They might have fallen out of love with him but they still want him scoring points. I'd be amazed if sabotage was occurring.
I mean something doesn’t right. GR said he had to look at Lewis data in Canada to see why he was so fast? Very fishy. I understand he is leaving the team and not the focus point anymore but just Hamilton strategies are just lacking urgency and not very good. You would think the team would want the best results. Not if F1 pays you to sabotage him, because he must be kept out of the discussion at all costs. I believe Mercedes was paid by the FIA to keep Lewis out of the discussion by preventing his car from competing for wins. The mistake Lewis made was promoting social justice issues on the F1 platform, and the straw that broke the camel's back was when he wore a t-shirt that said "Arrest The Cops That Killed Breonna Taylor." Ever since then, he has been persona non grata, and you are in denial if you can't see this. All you have to do is go back and review Bernie Ecclestone's comments about Lewis after wearing the t-shirt. This is why he was robbed of his 8th championship in front of the entire world, then punished (fined) for not showing up at the F1 end of season awards to be humiliated again. Quiet as it is kept, Max is not worthy of lacing up Lewis' shoes, but his arrogance and childish demeanor won't allow him to admit this. He knows Lewis was robbed. Max has no integrity as a competitor, for he breaks the rules as he sees fit, running drivers of the track, weaving to avoid being passed, and never leaving room for other drivers who try to pass him in the corners. We are further instructed on Max and his bully driving style by how he recently ran Lando Norris off the track to avoid being passed, just like he did time and again when Lewis would attempt to pass him. Max has shown time and time again his willingness to break the rules and drive dangerously to achieve the win.

If they finish 4th because ferrari and McLaren beat them because the were sabotaging lewis, it is not smart is it, they could finish 2nd like last year and get more money.

No way this is true! Whoever that person was is just acting out because they are upset about what is happening. Toto and Mercedes would be out of their minds if they were to actually do this on purpose to Lewis, as Lewis will always be an advocate for the team once he retires and they don't need him as an advocacte later on.
How much impact does 2-3 deg off the blanket has after a warm-up lap?
Tires 2° or 3° degrees celcius cooler than "should have been" from 70° what is the max temp. In the blankets. That aren't cold tires but a very small deviation from the normal temp. Just 2 degrees isn't something like sabotage. There are many natural causes for losing that thin margin. If you crying for 2 degrees.
Why especially in the qualifying where temp counts. Why everyone already stays stuck in each other traffic in the complete pit fast lane full of cars in front of a red stoplight waiting sometimes a minute 1-2 to enter the track. How much temperature will your tires lose while standing still? So your outlap must be very fast to get the tires back to operating temperature. A fast outlap with then direct the flying lap are most times slower than prepping them on an easy slower lap where you can weave more on slower speed.
It could be russell its getting upgrades first since he is mercedes future. Lewis should know it

Success in F1 has and likely will always include a car designed to favor a specific driving style. Since each driver will likely not have exactly the same style it is likely the design of the car will favor one of the teams drivers more than the other. Duh.
Given the hyperbolic nature of the letter I’d put folding money on it being a fan. As stated in this video, yes Lewis is being deprioritized, as an outgoing driver should. And as to the cold tire temps, I find it hard to believe that anyone in F1 would be so petty as to risk a drivers life !!!

If Lewis isn't good next year at Ferrari, is he being sabotaged or just not a top driver anymore? Is he only good in the "best" car that can win with ease? I feel like I've only heard him complain about things going on in the team and not complain or take responsibility for his own performance. "the car wasn't good enough", "the tires weren't warm enough." He's supposed to be one of the best, he needs to adapt to the changing rules/cars, which he seems to be struggling with, which is probably also hitting him mentally.

This just sounds like someone doesn’t understand that Hamilton got the best parts and best strategies the team had for a majority of his career and now that he isn’t the favorite in Mercedes any more, he is on the other end of the stick. It happens. It happens with Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren. It definitely happens at Williams.
Mercedes wouldn't sabotage any of their cars, as a team they want to be as far up the constructors championship as possible.
Why? no one cares about the constructor championship. Which ever car the champion has, that's the real winner.

toto definitely had lewis car "turned down" at the end of the canadian GP, nearing the end of tha canadian gp. lewis caught russel and passed him.. then on the last lap george's car mysteriously gained a serious performance boost and drove by lewis like car 44 was down a cylinder! and went on to take a 3rd place ! it was 100% fishy. lewis is twice the driver russel is and toto knows it. we all see russel cracks under pressure and until he can fix that problem, he will never be capable of winning a wdc no matter how fast his car is

2 drivers per team is flawed, teams (especially teams at the top) are incentivised to make their lesser popular drivers car a little bit slower so that they don't take points from their popular driver. I bet last season Mercedes were making George's car a little bit slower.

I wouldn't call it sabotage either however it does feel like they haven't given him enough respect over the last year or so. This is a man that has won them 7 championships yet they don't even sow up when he finally gets on the podium yet George has the entire team there. The main reason he is moving to Ferrari is because he asked for a 2 year contract and they said no because we all know who they want in that seat instead. It just seems poor taste to throw Hamilton to the side just because he's moving to a different team. He technically made Mercedes what they are today. Obviously not forgetting Nico or Bottas as they where great drivers and great team mates but I believe they wouldn't have 8 championships without Hamilton.

In Canada, he was put on hards. They had better tires and the argument that hards is all they had is laughable. They were on inters the entire race! Why in gods name are you pitting your driver onto hards with 12 laps left and a podium/ win on the line?! Other than to sabatoge. If you know how tire allocation works then you’ll know they had atleast new mediums maybe new softs depending how many they used in qualifying. Even then used softs are better then new hards in that short of a stint. It’s a joke. He’s being out qualified because he sees what’s happening and he likely just doesn’t care to bring the team that turned his back on him to the top. All year George has got the better set up, the better tires ect. Data doesn’t lie. It also might have something to do with their sponsors. A team with the calibre of merc who have very wealthy sponsors like Tommy and Petronas, don’t want to see the driver that’s leaving the team consistently out performing the signed driver for years to come (George) like Lewis did last year. It’s a bad look and merc would then run the risk of losing their sponsors. But this is the bed merc made, problem is they just don’t want to lie down in it

It is something both Bottas and Rosberg had to deal with and Ham is no longer the future of Merc so he get's the alternate strategy.
