I make an awesome pesto out of my holy basil. I also dry it out to use it for tea. Tulsi is an adaptogen that helps you to regulate your stress levels. One of the many plants with many benefits.
That's exactly what I do with all of mine. I have 4 or 5 different holy basils and Italian basil. I tincture a big jar of holy basil it's medicinal.. I use it all year round love it🤗🥰🤗🥰
What a welcome video this was to me. You had me sold on planting Tulsi throughout my garden next year when you said the bees were all over it. I don't consider my garden for just my family, it is also a habitat for wildlife and the more I try to provide food and refuge for beneficials the less pest pressure I seem to have. I really enjoyed the video and thank you...
my tulsi is about 3 meters tall and constantly seeding, lots of babies around it, makes for a great healing tea ..love the feeling of the leaves, like velvet. Indians pray to it like the names suggests..Holy basil
I made tea with it and we also use it to season our meats (we are from the islands) if is tasty it goes in our marinades, scramble eggs and stir fries. 😊 I learn to make tea with it from The Fit Gardener (it is relaxing tea- good before bed).
Tulsi is, of course, a very wonderful, healing herb in the mint family. I have heard from a friend (who was raised in India) say that it's best to use/and or process it fresh, and not dried. I have no evidence either way, but there may be something to this. Here's the catch -- this plant carries a Metal vibration in the Chinese 5 Elements, and would be the most beneficial and healing for individuals who have a LOW percentage of Metal vibration in their body chemistry. If you have a HIGH percentage of Metal in your body chemistry, then this plant would not really help you because you already have it in your chemistry. A plant with ANOTHER elemental vibration would be more balancing and nourishing. How will you know the difference? A person with a LOW percentage will probably grimace if you want them to take this. "You want me to do what???" If you LOVE mint plants, like this or peppermint, etc. and crave them, then you most likely have a HIGH percentage of Metal in your body chemistry. Don't shoot the messenger. This was part of the Divine Creator's design. 🏋💜
Wow, this was so helpful! Is this the basic method for making most tinctures? We’ve had friends give us tinctures before, but have never attempted it ourselves. After seeing this, I’d like to give it a try. About how long will the leaves stay in the liquid? Thanks so much for this video.
I bought some seeds several years ago and planted in a pot. This year it managed to find its way into my chicken run. But the chickens won’t eat it. I’m gonna let it go to seed this year. Maybe I’ll have more next year. If the chickens don’t eat the seeds.
In Rosemary's book she says to let it sit in a warm sunny spot, but I was under the impression that tinctures are supposed to sit in a cool dark cabinet for 4 to 6 weeks?
I made a half gallon with 100 proof vodka. It has been 12 weeks and the liquid is still as clear as the day I made it. Shouldn’t it have a green tint or something by now?
I grew holy basil last year, not for any particular reason, and I just didn’t like the way it smelled. lol I was actually surprised how much I didn’t like the smell. I never thought to look into using it for health reasons, I may try it again next year!
StephT5 In all honesty, I wasn’t really crazy about the smell or taste of it either. When I tried it again later it tasted like a cross between anise and mint.
@@PermaPasturesFarm21 Hey! how's it going? Thanks for the reply. What is compost tea? I guess I am looking for something to kill the nail fungus. I have soaked in vinegar and even used a little bleach. I think the key is to soak everyday and keep the toenails trimmed. But I am looking for something that will really take out the fungus. Really enjoy your videos.
You should let it sit for 4 to 6 weeks. After that, the alcohol tincture should last for at least two years. I’m not quite sure how long the Apple cider vinegar will last though.
Prolific. Key word. 😂 every time I walk out to my garden I’m like “HOLY BASIL!!!” 😅
Lmao! Me Too!!!😂 sometimes it's Holy Basil Batman!😅

MsShawn43 I’m watching the bees buzzing all over it right now!
I planted some holy basil this year hopefully my 🐝 bees will love it
I use herbs but have never used holy basil, will have to try it next year. Michele, you have a beauty smile!
Betty Mann she does indeed! Thank you for the kind response.

Can you use dried basil instead of fresh for these!

Thanks so much for this video.
Living Quite Simply Thank you for your support! You should let it sit about 4 to 6 weeks.
How long do you leave it to soak? Is it shelf stable or refrigerated?
Laura Kiffmeyer We let it go from 4 to 6 weeks and then it’s shelf stable for about a year.
Muito bom 👍
do I need to take it off the stems?
I have GOT to get better at growing herbs.

The book is likely the better option.

Just watching this one today. Thinking how nice it would be to have some of that sweatshirt weather right about now.
It’s definitely sticky in that low country!
So did you guys just not use the flowers at all? Leaves only?
Can you use sweet basil as well.
Mary Tucker I’m sure you could but it’s won’t possess the same properties.

How can a plant smell good and bad at the same time?
Black Pack Homestead Chris and Marella Ogden I wish I knew.
Troops to task, I'd expect nothing less.

HI, what would you use for toe nail fungus? Thanks so much for the video.
time20 Believe it or not, my first permaculture instructor said that soaking his feet in compost tea cured that very thing for him!

time20 Thanks for checking us out! Compost tea is basically water that has been soaked in compost with an aerator for period of time.
lavender oil for any kind of skin issues, rashes bug bites, fungal issues, it is the king of skin
How long should it last in each jar?

In Nora Roberts book Hideaway a lady talks about Holy Basil tea. I have not planted it yet lol
it is incredibly useful when sick or stressed
❤I thought if you use lower than 100 proof 50% alcohol content, that the basil won't fully secrete from the plant❤
I take a pipette full of Holy Basil tincture before bed, and I sleep like a baby.
As you grow your channel, you won't have the time to respond to everyone!
Catherine hopefully we don’t grow to that extent because I learn a great deal from the interactions.
