- I recently acquired some snakes that were saved from a burning house, but will need some serious treatment for quite awhile. Here are helpful creams to apply to reptile burns, and how to properly give a snake an antibiotic shot.

Oh man I know this is older but I was bawling so hard watching this. It's so hard when a house fire or even barn fire takes your beloved pets. My horse was in a barn fire and it's messed her up for life. My best friends barn caught fire and they lost 50 horses. The stallions and mares and foals were all rescued but all their show horses ended up dying. I remember her telling me how she could hear her horse screaming and the fire fighters wouldn't let them in to rescue them because that side of the barn wasn't safe. I can't even imagine the pain of going through that house and trying to dig out who is alive and see all of those who have died. I'm so sorry for your friend for all that they have lost, not only just a home but all their beloved animals. This is literally my worst fear ever.
I am sure it was dangerous and it was best to not go there but I wonder if the fire fighters in protective gear couldnt have opened a door or something to give them a chance..
The horses were probably all in individual stalls inside the barn, opening just one door wouldn't really have given the horses a chance in that case.
One of my biggest fears too..I can’t imagine being stuck in that terrifying situation, not able to get out😩 I’m not a snake person at all & I even feel so bad for these guys/girls. Ugh I understand the firemen not letting your friend back in, but gosh, how hard that had to be to hear their horses. Poor things.
Chelsea Knaack I’m also worried about house fires or natural disasters. I’ve already made up in my mind that my dog (my fur baby) is first priority and then if there’s time I’ll rescue the other animals. Hopefully it never comes to that.
It’s ironic because if it was a person or baby in that barn they world have gone charging in.
RIP Big Bertha (the badly burnt snake who they thought would go blind) and all the others who died in the fire.
Thanks to Emily and Eds heroic efforts 12 of the 13 snakes they took in survived, I guarantee it would be less if it wasn't for the meticulous care they gave. They're heroes ♡

I met one of these lovely snakes and their charming owner tonight. He directed us to your page and this video. It breaks my heart to know more of the story. He was kind to let my son, our friends and I handle his carpet snake quite a bit. I realized I never got to hear the end of a story he started. I could have hung out with the two of them for hours on that street corner. A fascinating pair. Thank you for helping them

You're so sweet, most people would only do what you've done for a 'cute' animal. I mean okay I prefer mamals myself, but that's because I'm best suited for mammals like dogs, ferrets and a few other animals. Still I find snakes and lizards facinating they're cute too, and they're pretty cool. I feel as much sympathy for these animals as I do mammals.
It's sad most people don't care about an animal that isn't furry and cutesy.
If I had the ability I would love to rescue animals like snakes and other small reptiles. I'm bad at taking care of anything exotic, but I've found abused reptiles, I just never Foster them myself I leave them with someone who knows how to take care of them.
Cats and dogs everywhere are suffering that's true, still reptiles suffer a lot to sometimes even more. All animals deserve a good life.

Reptiles are real pets, maybe not to some, but I know that if I ever had a house fire, my reptiles (and even my scorpions) I would try so hard to save just like I would for my dog. I love them all, they all deserve care and safety. Its not fair to save a dog but let your other pets burn to death...

I hate to ask this, but do they know what started the fire? It sounds like the reptile room was hit pretty hard, so I'm just wondering if maybe there was a faulty heat mat or bulb that started it. Would like to know how to reduce this fire risk.

This is one of the reasons why I love this channel so much. Most you tubers would title the video ‘I saved snakes from a burning house’ but Emily and Ed care about the snakes more than the views and subscribers. I hated to see all these injured snakes and I am so sorry to hear about your friends house and I am deeply sorry about all the lives that were lost. The happy thing about this video is how they sacrificed their time to save these adorable noodles. Keep doing what you’re are doing- hope you are well and that all your noodles keep healthy
I'm literally crying for these poor little babies. The thought of them in their dishes trying so hard to cool down... 😭 I can't imagine how your friend got through it.

It's 3 years later and 2 of the survivors live in the zoo, and had babies. It's just wonderful how far they've come
Just a tip as a vet tech, when you are giving injections always pull back a little on the plunger to make sure you aren’t in a vessel :) if you get a flash of blood come out and try again. Thank you for helping these babies!!!
That's really the only downside of owning a bunch of animals, you can't save them all

Yes that’s why When I move out of my parents house I plan to get 1 it’s going to be a corn snake snake I want a really big snake but in case of a emergency I want a small snake so that it is quick to get in a travel bin also I don’t want one too small because it will drop out of my hands when I’m trying to pick it up to put in a travel bin and I don’t want a fast one like a garder because it would be hard to catch to put in the travel bin when considering an animal think will I be able to save it in case of an emergency

Curly Lapis all but the one of them made it. The one that was slow moving and “maybe permanently blind” unfortunately died
I know this was posted a while ago, but I always feel so bad for those snakes. Poor babies. I'm glad you were able rescue some of them.

Emily thanks for caring for treating them as best as you could it means a lot to me that you took care of snakes that are at risk of getting bad infections and even some of them dieing think you for helping them I can’t thank you enough
This is just so depressing. You can hear it in Emily’s voice that she was working hard the entire day, trying to save the snakes from the fire

Im watching in 2019 and I lost one of my best friends,my dog Missy she was a good dog she did tricks but one day I came home from school and I saw Missy...dead...but animals don't live forever...RIP all the geckos and danger noodles.

I'm sorry for your loss, I also lost my dog, he was a service dog, my pitbull Jack. He passed from getting hit by a car

My friends snake shed (it was like a mini house perfectly heated and everything.) I was round hers for a sleepover when stupid boys threw a match over onto the shed. She was sleeping (this was the middle of the night) and I smelt immense smoke. I shouted to her and her mom (I was the only one in fit clothing to go outside) that there was a fire some where and I ran downstairs while they got dressed. No fir down stairs I heard a wood burning and looked out and saw the shed on fire. I screened THE SNAKES. I ran out while her Bro rang (he was also in ok clothing) 999. I slammed the shed door open and started pulling open all the bins. I started grabbing them all round my neck and arms. I ran out and put them all in bins. Then I ran back in to grab the rest. (By now now the mom and my friend where down and sifting through the snakes to stop some (we had 3 that always bit other snakes) snakes biting others. Me and the Bro where now grabbing the last 10 snakes. Sadly there where 3 snakes who where fairly badly burned. We heard sirens and all that. We grabbed the bins that the snakes that that I couldn't find cause they buried themselves. We got all them out with minimal damage and the fire brigade was there as we where saving the last of the snakes and putting out the fire. Sadly the snakes got badly burned and 2 had bites from the other snakes. We also had lost one snake cause he slithered off. But I found him when I got home he had slithered into my bag. I think it was before he was was the wortly burned. (I also took that bag to the hospital.) I had bad burns on my hands legs and all my body. But I don't care I saved the danger noodles. (We are all ok. Out of the humans and the snakes I was the most badly injured and I'm perfectly fine.)
UPDATE; my friend let me keeo the worst burned, buddy (the one who was in my bag) and we are all fine me and buddy where the worst and both have a matching scar on us

That really hurt my heart. It's one of my biggest fears, having my pets burn to death in the house. I'm always a worry wart, but i can't imagine the horror those poor pets went through.

The one with the cloudy eyes didn't make it. Her name was Big Bertha. The ones that Ed and Emily had went back to their owner and are apparently doing great

This just goes to show just how amazing and resilient life can be, especially reptiles. Its a shame so many died and were injured, but in glad some could survive.

I know this is 3 years when I wrote this. I saw this and felt terrible... my basement caught on fire and I lost nothing... yet it sucks to lose all of your pets. I feel bad for that man and wish him the best.

My one needed to get jags for a while to treat an illness from a bad rat and she didn’t flinch while getting them but I don’t know if it’s because she’s had medicine (to treat burns but with no jabs) before and she knows it helps her feel better or not.
Yeah. I've had to give my cats injections sometimes - I had a diabetic cat many years ago who got insulin twice a day, and more recently I had a cat with arthritis who got a joint supplement once every two weeks for awhile - and I can always tell when the needle goes through the skin because they'll flinch.

Poor little guys and gals. I hope they didnt suffer though I know that is unlikely. Is there a way to provide pain relief to them or only to treat the wounds? I do not know how snakes and other reptiles experience pain but they have a brain and nerves so I imagine they have pain response.

This is such an old video but this is so sad. I hate it when poor innocent animals die because of a mistake of their owners, or in this case something different, because I'm sure these people were trying to be very careful to protect their animals, but its so sad, not only because those snakes lost their lives, but because this family lost their home, Your such a wonderful person Emily and Ed! Plz keep being a legend!

Most of The snakes in this video were pulled out of the home after the fire which means they had to wait for there enclosures to burn/melt before they could get out...
They most likely got the burns escaping there enclosures
The fire was most likely caused by some heating apparatus getting too hot, since the most heavy hit room was the snake room.
Poor family and poor animals. Glad you guys were there to help, amen for awesome friendships.
Just a tip, when drawing out the medicine from the vial, keep the syringe and needle up straight instead of keeping them on their side. This ensures you’re getting the proper amount of medication needed. If it’s tilted on it’s side there’s a chance it won’t be the correct amount. I hope this makes sense!

Yes this is a old video, yes the damage is already done, but we can use this to learn. I was so close to crying even when its 2020 and this was made in 2017.
Watching this I feel as if I have a lot of heavy lumps collecting in my gut but I´m glad that you used this horrid event to spread knowledge. My daughter is 16 has been wanting a snake since she was 10 but we surprised her on her 16th because for 6yrs she's got books and weekend's she helps out in our local reptile shop so we made sure she done her research and she's a great pet parent , she got a ball Python from a friend who is a s snake breeder... She named her snake Jackson and he's very friendly and eats well... She loves ur channel and I'm not kidding use both could pass as sister's u both look so alike lol, all the way from the UK we LOVE YOU!!!!!!! :) xo

We've had good results useing hibiclens on some of the more badly injured reptiles in our emergency animal shelter/rescue.
We take on injured and ill reptiles an nurse them back to health till they are well enough to go to rescues or homes. A lot of shelters will put animals down if they are sick or injured due to overcrowding and lack of funds. Always breaks my heart when animals get euthanized over things that are easy to fix. A lot of them just need a little TLC and time. Snakes can be very resilient creatures.
I love all the work you do, your a very good ambassador for reptiles. Keep up the amazing work!
