Shania Chua They extract the venom so that they can make it into anti venom so that if someone gets bitten by a venomous animal that person doesn’t die from that bite. One thing I love about this video and this facility is that the staff here are very knowledgable on what it is they're doing and that they clearly love their job. They seemed more than happy to answer every question you have in a lot of detail, whilst also making whatever it is sound extremely interesting - even down to explaining how the barcodes on their enclosures work. Not to mention the fact that they clearly care about the welfare of the animals - they do as much as they can to reduce stress and keep their animals happy, and I really love how they use rescue animals too. I'd love to visit this facility (or a UK equivilant) someday!
Even ones we dont! We clip dogs ears and dock their tails and declaw cats because people act like dogs and cats are designer objects to serve you and make your life easier not realizing they are a species all their own and deserve respect and a place in our family free of them having to CHANGE to accommodate us. If you cant have an animal without doing unnecessary alterations to it DONT HAVE AN ANIMAL (not bitching at you of course just building off your comment )

@@inmydarkesthour2278 the have hundreds of snakes what do you expect extravagant enclosures for them they are living in spotless bins that are appropriately sized for them
@@inmydarkesthour2278 At MToxins we design our husbandry protocols to find a balance between safety, sterility, security, and meeting all of the biological needs of our animals based on the best available research and established practices in the field. These rack systems allow minimal light in, and they are designed that way intentionally. Most snake species we keep in racks and extract from are nocturnal. They sleep in dark burrows or dens during the day, and are only active at night when it is dark out. These species often live the majority of their lives without spending time in the sun - They evolved that way, and their captive conditions should reflect that. We do house some species which prefer small amounts of light or other special requirements such as UVB rays, and their enclosures are outfitted with the proper provisions. Additionally, the tubs within the rack look deceptively small, because they lack vertical space. This is also an intentional design feature, as tubs maximize the floor space that snakes need most. Extensive vertical space cannot be utilized by most of species we work with, and those that do are houses in special enclosures that provide extra vertical room. The thermostat-rack system is also the most accurate way to regulate temperature and humidity for species with sensitive environment requirements. Rack systems simply provide the best environment for nocturnal ectotherms whose main requirements are maximizing heat and humidity while minimizing light, while also being escape-proof, safe for handlers to work with, and are easy to completely sterilize. If you have any specific questions always feel free to reach out and ask us, we are an open book. Everything we do, we do for a reason.
@@alexistheamazing2796 I personally have never been envenomated, no. If an envenomation would occur at our facility, we absolutely would not get rid of that animal or any of our animals. As a tarantula keeper, I wasn't bothered watching the venom extraction at all! I appreciate that the team seemed to care a great deal about making sure their arachnids were being handled as safely as possible.
Wait why do they collect venom? I didn't get it
For anti venom to slightly counter act the venom of the snakes venom
Shania Chua They extract the venom so that they can make it into anti venom so that if someone gets bitten by a venomous animal that person doesn’t die from that bite. It is better to extract the venom and create an anti venom than have someone be killed by a cause that could be completely prevented.

What happened to that poor copperhead is horrific. I'm super bummed about how we as a species treat the creatures that we fear.
@@littlemisswolfee1095 I feel the same way. I have rescue cats and two of them had previous owners that declawed them. One with all four of her paws and the other only his front paws, and both of their previous owners abandoned them and threw them outside with no way to defend themselves.
If people who want animals don't want all the "inconveniences" of said animal then they have no place in getting a pet at all.
Little Miss Wolfee Yeah, I really hate how the majority of dogs have no tail. I absolutely love when I see a dog with a tail

At 8:51 when the lady was explaining what happened to the snake, I felt so sad for her. She's beautiful and I know that she's dangerous but she's still a beautiful snake. I hate hearing that someone would do this to any snake that needs their fangs and venom.
I live in an area with copperheads and it's my understanding that they're not even that aggressive. Because they're venomous, and other animals know they're venomous, other animals generally avoid them and they don't need to strike out to defend themselves. That makes it even more sad; that the person who owned her probably didn't even "need" to put her through all that suffering to make her "safe".
@@rockercaterrorencountered4924they’re not aggressive at all!! They’re a Very shy and timid snake! That’s why they are always recommended as a pet for someone who wants to start keeping venomous snakes.. bcus they have a great temperament! She looks so sad and sickly now🥹

How? The snakes live in tiny bins their whole lives....
Megan Villand Kraege have you ever gotten bitten by one of you’re snakes and if so did you have to get rid of them?
@@alexistheamazing2796 I personally have never been envenomated, no. If an envenomation would occur at our facility, we absolutely would not get rid of that animal or any of our animals. Envenomation is a risk that we know are are taking on in this industry, and we have immensely detailed safety protocols in place along with antivenom available on-site. We are educated and trained professionals with the knowledge and experience to work with these animals safely. If any of us were to be envenomated, it would be our fault and or responsibility, not the animal's.

@@Hawkpelt94 Spaying and neutering is fine ethically, because it prevents breedings and other health issues and aggression.
