Mad respect for people that actually fix their things before just buying new ones. He actually made a whole new lock shaft for his dremel? He probably has things in his garage that have been around for years bc the willingness to fix it and save money. I bet you could even 3D print parts for the dremel but probably not this part...

Great repair friend. I think dremel made the lock pin bad on purpose so you need to buy a new one every year or two. My pin wore down in a couple years with minimum usage. I wouldnt recommend any dremel tool. Poor design and built to break in 2 years time.

Samurai Champloo I had same experience. we dremels (original replaced under warranty), minimal usage and lock pin worn.

There are lots of great rotary tools out there, but none that are in my experience any less prone to comparable problems as a Dremel, and at least the Dremel is easy to work on and repair. Moreover, this particular problem is actually caused by the user. If you are sure to hold the button firmly while changing bits, the collet won't slip and turn which is what causes excess wear to the lock pin. Granted, if it were designed better this wouldn't be an issue, but with a little understanding even this minor problem can become a complete non issue.

Thank you. What you said makes a lot of sense. I had a rotary tool a few years back (not a Dremel), that kept my bit locked in. I will take your advice and hopefully, have my Dremel for a decent number of years!

danijel124 Yeah, same here. This is my first and last Dremel. Who is going to do all this work to fix a poor design? These things are truly pieces of shit. Luckily, the kit I bought has a lot of attachments and I can keep those. I'll just buy a better quality tool and throw away the Dremel tool.

Mine got fucked today, it was barely used, now I fucking had to take apart the device, remove the button, and leave the hole open, so I can insert any shit in order to try to lock it. I can imagine the faces of those people who tried to take apart the unit and found that it has star screws. I removed all of them and it was impossible to open it, then after some research, I found that I needed to cut in half those stickers, since they are sitting just in the middle of the line. Dremel is not fair, it was like it put huge effort in making this thing "no durable", that they affected users like me, that used the device just twice or three times. I just observed that is very difficult to fix that thing, and you are not even able to lock it using an external stick, like a nail or something like that, as an instant way to use it, I saw that I will need to take apart the entire thing in order to change the bit.

+Tom Howe when I can save 12 bucks and learn something along the way , why not ? Plus I have the machines to do this. The ordinary people probably don't even have the machines so buying one is best for them?

+connor sauder the pin and spring for the model 3000 dremel is $11.12 plus shipping from ereplacementparts.com. I just ordered one for mine. I think its a fairly common failure point.

@@locksmitty13 currently $2.99, but . . . $20 international shipping to Mexico. 😖 Damn, I don’t know when I’ll be back in the states, but $20 shipping on a $3 part is hard to swallow!
