It was somewhere here the T class had failed on “The Gippslander” and the train was stationary, the conductor said it was ok to exit the train to take a photo. The conductor thought we’d be moved into buses at Sale. Sale at that time was a terminal station and we were retrieved by the Y class shunter. I eventually saw it arrive in the distance and we were towed into Sale, by the the T class was fixed and we continued on our way to Bairnsdale, changing direction at Sale. To this day I don’t know what was fixed to enable us to go on our way. This was VR days, such an incident now would have triggered the V/line bus switch. This was before the new N class locos were ordered, it was normal for the VR to swap the mighty L class to the underpowered T class and the average speed was about 80kph.
Given how quickly the T was “fixed” I wonder if the problem was union related.
In the late ‘70s the average consist was a T class, an AS, BS and three wooden cars.
I remember doing that trip. When the train left Traralgon station boy was she slow. It’s pretty flat there but a decent hill would have stopped . A Y class would have been painfully slow. The L classes could really pull. I do remember the briguette trains flying through the Noble Park area. I often caught a country train with a L Class the 8.03 am from Springvale into the city. That thing really pulled out of the stations.
@@beagle7622 The Y didn’t take that long, might have only been a short distance. The conductor said the Y couldn’t take us to Bairnsdale and it was buses for sure. Suprised when the T came good again. I recall the light engine movement from Sale seemed to be slow and hesitant. Probably my imagination. Moorabool was in the consist. Would have been late from Bairnsdale.
@@darylcheshire1618 The 8.02 was express from Springvale in stopped at Oakleigh & Caulfield, originating from Warragul. It was available for Suburban passengers. No 1st class. I remember catching it in 74 I think. You are right most country trains were not for Suburban passengers . The carriages were old but it carried a lot of people.
For something different, I listened to something called Cosmic Gnome Banjo ~ Enchanting Spacefolk Campfire Jam while watching this leg. th-cam.com/video/oegPS0qemEE/w-d-xo.html
I also posted the URL for this video in the comments, so here's hoping a few Cosmic Gnomes come on over to see how beautiful Victoria is.😁🧙♂🍀
Hmmmm..... interesting. 🤔👍😀
@@driver667 Thanks for not saying Hey Marty, you is crazy! 🤪
(even though I am) 😵💫
@@martythemartian99 🤣🤣👍😀
What do the yellow signs with the red letters at 5:35 mean also so one in a previous video with a W. Also was the picture of the Vlocity taken on the Gippsland line? It looks a bit like Kyneton to me.
That is a temporary speed restriction and, yes you are correct. The picture was taken at Kyneton. 👍😀
24:55 the new rail bridge over the duplicated Princes Highway
A mini Sydney Harbour Bridge. 🤔 😃😃👍
we have reached the end of the line 😢
During the Kennett era, Sale was the end of the line. I did a couple of day trips to Sale from Dandenong, left at 1pm from memory. Couple of sprinters.
Not quite at the end of the line yet. A bit more to go 👍😀
