    It's MUCH easier to push the new mineral oil in from the BOTTOM instead of filling from the top. That way the air is pushed up and out as you fill the brake system and reservoir at the brake lever. Just fill the bottom syringe with mineral oil, open the "clamp" on the top syringe, and push the fluid through. Easy peasy.

    Why do you put a strap on the lever? Is it so you can fill it slightly more before you put the screw cap on for a more firm lever feel?

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, that and keeping some fluid in the pistons.

  • @pewpewbbqs

    Yessir! They came on the new e-bike. I played with them for 2 hours yesterday.. couldn't get the air out of the line... I think they're defective... possibly a bad o-ring??? IDK... I've bleed them using 2 different methods... still a TON of air...
    I've been in contact w/ Velowave (the bike company) since I got the bike... and they're sending me out replacements... BUT they're coming from China.. so it'll be a while before I have rear brakes that work... Soon as I got the bike, I put 35 PSI in the tires and the front tube EXPLODED after 5 minutes... I haven't had much luck... Got a flat in the rear Friday night... Got out of work early (1:30am) and ran over a 4" nail...

    Nice, a question i have. What is the reason you put the red strap holding the lever back squeezing the brake before you put the screw back on? I have not seen that in any other bleeding video? Can you explain that in detail? What that does?

  • @sethat8e

    I just did mine with marine trim tilt fluid. I left some in the syringe with a rubber seal so I'll see if it'll be detrimental. It should be fine though. Most tilt trim systems have rubber orings, and it's a similar viscosity. It also has additives for seal life, water repellent, and sheer strength.

    It looks like those Zoom brakes are a good candidate for a gravity bleed. I did it on a rear Shimano with a long aquarium tube on the caliper nipple going off to a can to catch the waste. I left the rotor and rear tire on, spilled about 2 drops of oil and got great results. The syringe at the lever would just make gravity a little faster.

Going to try to just fill from the top until it seems all air is out (opening the bottom screw just enough to let the fluid drip out into a cup). Haven't made the hydro upgrade thing yet. I have some good TRP Spyke mechanical disc brakes, levers, rotors, calipers, dics, (180>f - 160>r), ceramic pads, Jagwire cables and housings. My buddies that have riden my bike, say they're not quite as good as their hydro brakes, but, pretty darn close. Adjustment and setup were easy enough, haven't looked back since. Pricey but without hydro problems. Just my humble opinion. Now, after that being said, this video has me thinking hydro....... hmmmmm......... Thanks a lot, now I gotta get new brakes, Dangit!

    We ordered these brakes from aliexpress and of course they came reversed despite the product description. The 1400mm rear hose is too short to run under the BB of the schwinn boundary like your taff, but we chose to reroute the tubing under the top tube and down the seat-stay which allowed us to stick with 1400mm. We just needed to swap the hoses at the master cylinder side. We did not do a bleed and it is working well.
    Can you tell us which shimano barb and olive you used for your hose replacement? I think it will probably be BH59 as used in the shimano MT200. Thanks.

    • @WOLFTICKVIDEOS
      @WOLFTICKVIDEOS  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @suvespa
      @suvespa 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The olives are the same for 90 n 59. What's different is the insert. The inserts or needles correspond to the inner diameter of the brake hose. BH 90 has smaller inner diameter as compared to BH 59. OD are the same. No problem if you are changing the whole brake hose not so when you are just shortening it. So zoom brake hose uses which insert/needle?

    For bleed fluid, now I use Ambra Brake, with is a mineral oil base fluid designed for heavy machinery. It has a boiling point on 290 Celsius degrees and fully compatible with mineral oil brakes. Where I live it is easier to find then, than find a bike specific brake fluid. And also cheaper.

      Ha ha ha coming up!! Now we also have the MT200'S and they are more comparable to the zooms. The mt420s absolutely blow the zooms out of the water lol. But compared to the 200's they arent as strong overall but still a steel if you can get them around 40 dollar area. I would buy some more if I needed some.

      Ok, well it sounds like you have air in the lines...If it gets better after squeezing a few times then it may be air, if it does not firm up and still persists, try bleeding them and keeping the levers mounted on the bar and removing calipers from bike, now be sure and tap the calipers while letting fluid flow thru, it should free up any air bubbles. 2 person job!! If u have problems with the rear brake, take the rear tire off and squeeze the brake without the bleed blocks and start filling!, If u put too much in it'll ooze out before u completely tighten the bleed screw back in the master. Also, zip tie the lenders in over night, put the bike in the stands and angle the bike nose up towards the levers. Tap the lines and let it sit overnight, it'll be spongy in the morning and just add more oil and you should be good! Just a few hacks I've learned as I have magura and those can be notoriously tricky to dial in perfect but good luck to ya and be safe out there! 👍🙋

    The only problem I am finding with these brakes is that it is sometimes very difficult to switch out the rear hose on the lever because the zoom factory crushes the olive down so tight it makes it almost impossible to get the hose out. Secondly, you must be very careful not to strip the retaining screw when replacing it or your reservoir will leak. I found this out the hard way, I now have to re-order a left brake lever, and of course, it will come with a front brake line that will have to be replaced for the rear. Seems this process never ends...

    I just installed the Zoom Xtech Hydraulic brakes on my MTB. They work EXCELLENT! No hassle, No bleeding, and they look AWSOME. Red calipers against the stainless rotors on a black frame, looks totally SICK! I also want to make another point on why hybrid (hydraulic/mechanical) brakes are a better choice, for my situation anyway. I have a 2019 Schwinn Taff that I rebuilt from the wheels up. I ordered two new rims from Schwinn at $22.00 a piece and new Shimano quick release hubs, new tires and tubes and rebuilt some nice wheels with stainless spokes. I put on an entire new cockpit, red handlebars, a new stem and locking hand grips. When I was thinking about changing out the mechanical disk brakes for hydraulic I naturally had to replace the integrated Shimano shifters/lever cluster that came stock on the bike. So, I bought a new 3x8 Shimano shifter set to put on the bars with the new hydraulic levers. Then I found out about the hybrid Zoom Xtech hydraulic brakes that use existing cable pull levers. I ended up putting my integrated Shimano shifter/lever cluster back on the bars and just running the brake cable to the Zoom Xtech hydraulic calipers. Instead of changing out the entire cockpit for a traditional hydraulic brake system I could use my existing Shimano shift/lever cluster with the new Zoom Xtech hydraulic brakes. The stopping force is UNBELIEVABLE! I'm so glad I decided to switch everything back to original so I could hook up the Xtech hydraulic brakes. I like the HUMPTY DUMPTY build you and wolf (Dad) did on the Taff. I would like to send you a picture of all the work I have done on my Taff. Believe it or not, I paid $189.00 for my Taff brand new at Walmart. To date my total expenses on the entire rebuild is $1,300.00. Let me know how I can shoot you a pic. Thanks buddy!

    Hey Jeremiah, just wanted to let you know before ordering a new brake set from ZOOM. I just found a hydraulic hybrid by ZOOM, it's called "XTECH". It's a Mechanical/Hydraulic brake. It is actuated through mechanical brake levers that attach to a hydraulic caliper. This way you do not need brake hoses and don't have to hassle with pulling crushed olives out of hydraulic levers and changing them around. You just simply set up the levers on the handlebars like regular mechanical brakes, run the cable and housing to the caliper and attach it like a regular mechanical brake. Only difference is the pistons inside the caliper are actuated by hydraulic fluid inside the caliper, so no messy bleeding is required. I'm gonna order me a set. You can find them for $46.97 for front and rear on ebay. Just thought you might want to do a video on how to set these brakes up. I think they are going to be a big seller because there is practically none to very little hassle setting them up. Thanks for listening bro. Go check them out...
