It's songs like Killer Queen that Freddie doesn't get enough credit for vocally, because it doesn't have massive falsettos and he isn't sprinting around and air-fucking the mic stand, so it doesn't appear difficult.... to him.
Freddie referred to his earlier look as "long hair and dark fingernails." By 1976 he had shorter hair, but not real short. Still some length but no moustache yet. This is his look in "Somebody to Love" official video and "We Will Rock You" official video. I think the moustache started to appear and his hair became very short around 1980 with the albums The Game and Flash. Then the moustache started to get thicker. That's kinda my take on Freddie's look from early Queen through Live Aid. I'll let someone talk about the fur coats, I do think it was an early thing. When they were doing those videos out in the snow it wasn't a fur coat but it had a furry collar on the "We Will Rock You" and "Spread Your Wings" videos that shot in the snow in Roger Taylor's garden.
This song has a tough climb in notes to nail, its an uncommon melodic run and difficult to hit without being sharp or flat in one of the notes without incredible control of semitones.
I LOVE your reaction to Killer Queen. You finally reacted to MY favorite Queen song. Thank you. I LOVE that you said you would put it on your playlist. 💖💖👑👑👑👑
glad you liked this one. its basically about a high class call girl. this was one of their earlier works and were branching out to the masses to gain recognition. here is also a bit of history about this particular music video: top of the pops is a British music chart tv show on bbc and the band members had to have a prerecording of the song and in case you couldn't tell, had to mime playing their instruments and lip-sync (BBC policy) although it was totally against the band's artistic talent and professional integrity. The drummer, Roger Taylor had to show almost painful restraint in not really playing the drums, and the cymbals were made of rubber or plastic. Though Queen's music transcends all genres and generations, fashion wise, they fell under whats called glam rock, therefore the long hair and the flashy costumes were all the rage in the 70's. while each member of the band definitely had their own style, Freddie being no acceptation, in their early years, they worked with a designer for stage costumes and live concert like moments in their promotional music videos like this one and bohemian rhapsody. self proclaimed punk princess Zandra Rhodes made all those flashy outfits and the almost batwing like sleeve tops and other clothes. check out their other live 70's concerts like "live at Hyde park", live at Hammersmith and live at the rainbow to see what I mean, which are available on youtube.
I have a lot of respect for your channel. I've noticed when you have to chop up the videos for TH-cam, you do it carefully, so the meaning isn't lost. I can't imagine the work that goes into that, so thank you. One of Freddie's best songs (Oh who are we kidding, they are all incredible), is Love of My Life. He wrote it for his girlfriend/fiance, Mary. To me the song is incredible because they loved each other and accepted each other even after their physical relationship changed. She was the love of his life. He left her the bulk of his estate along with all of his royalties. If that isn't love and acceptance, I don't know what is. It would be a great song for your 'chill' list. But, Please do a LIVE version. The crowd interaction is something to behold!
I saw that episode when it was broadcast. I was 12 and already hooked on Queen after seeing the previous single on TOTP a year earlier. That weekend I caught the bus to the local town and spent the 50p I earned the previous week delivering newspapers to buy the single.
A little fun fact about Queen is that Freddie wasn't inherently the one to bring fashion and crazy outfits to the band. In fact all of them loved fashion and wearing make-up. If I remember correctly; John Deacon had such a love for clothing fabrics like Satin and silk, both he and Freddie owned a clothing line or shop for a brief time in the 70's. Not only that, but all of them wore dresses and hills willingly on their own time on and off stage.
Brian and Freddie had the little shot of clothing in England. It's was the other band membera who decided to dress drag for I Want to Break Free. They all let Freddie have major control over costumes as they got more popular.
@@belindamelville3376 I don't know that story. Which means either it's BS or I just haven't watched, heard or read enough Queen over 35 years! Could be true.
@@paulr2540 im sure it was when Brian May was talking about Freddie roading for Bowie..then was laughing about the boots Bowie wanted to " borrow" not buy was no big deal they all knew each other back in the day and they was all skint...
Fair does my favourite band spanned decades and reinvented themselves for each decade but Innuendo was a perfect send off for what they represented and Freddie wow what a voice 🎶 This song made me fall in love with them. That video was We will rock you.
I think that "laser effect" must be tape flanging, an effect added later. Its also found on "Itchycoo Park" By the small Faces. and on songs such as "Are you gonna go my way" (the guitar solo) by Lenny Kravitz. Some are tape flanging, some digital flanging.
Laser beam is a "phase shifter" - guitar tech - Brian was a pioneer on a lot of that -- notice the guitar on "playful as a pussycat" -- SWIPE -- like a cat-scratch :)
Roger Taylor's Garden was the shoot for video "Spread Your Wings" - written by John Deacon - Fred was not so much about fur coats.. just flamboyant fashion...
Definitely check out "Spread Your Wings"...video was filmed in Roger's backyard & they're all freezing. Another great one is "Liar"....but it's gotta be live at the Rainbow. Showcases John very well.
You should listen to "Let Me Live" from the Made in Heaven album that was completed after his death and released in 1995, 4 years after his death. He only recorded some of the song before he passed away so the drummer, Roger Taylor, and guitarist Brian May sing the remaining verses on the song.
I know it is not your thing to react to music but this reaction gives me hope. I have a name for you. People who listen to him have a very strong reactions. Name is Dimash Kudaibergen and song I want you to listen as first is SOS . First, because I know there will be next. There always are, whoever listen to him. Everyone sooner or later says something like - he is not real, he isn't human, he is an alien. His voice is just unbelivable. I hope you'll like it. And if you want more try Opera 2, Diva Dance and Sinful Passion. On his concerts men cry and girls scream like those on Beatles concerts. Have fun.
Hey man!! Nice reaction 👌🏻🎉 and I’m always losing my shit watching this video😂 bc if you look close you’ll see with how much „motivation“ Roger hits the air close to his drums ☺️😂 I dunno If you already now this but at „Top of the Pops“ the artists weren’t allowed to play live 🤷🏼♀️ and Roger just frickin hated it.. so yeah he didn’t put in that much effort pretending it for the television lol
If I remember the story correctly, they didnt want to do this show. "All of the artists on "Top of the Pops" would lip-sync when they were on the show. QUEEN didnt want to do that and threatened to cancel their appearance if they werent allowed to play live. But, the producers of the show finally convinced them to do it, and they did, although grudgingly. That explains the the lackluster performance on this video. They were just mailing it in because they really didnt want to appear. *To me, there seems like an obvious lack of energy and enthusiasm in this video, compared to their others? But, its a good song.
Now for a little truth about this song. If you watch the documentary Mercury Rising you will see that according,to Eric who put up the money for them to record this that Freddie wrote the song about him That Freddie is the queen and it's killing him, because he cant have him. Eric also stated that he keeps his Moet and Chanson in a pretty cabinet which is a true fact. He said the part about Mariantoinette was about how he(Eric) had his hair permed and so forth. Song has nothing to do with a call girl. You can see other documentaries where Eric has stated this same story. Killer Queen was their first major hit in Europe and the states. Here is a little fun fact, the reason Freddie only has the black polish on one hand is because he stated in an interview that he was right handed and could only paint the left hand. I'm sure if you asked, your friend who is the big queen fan you can coroberate the stories. Or You can find the documentary Mercury Rising on TH-cam or Netflix. Ive watched it on both and a different one by REELZ tv. #Devonreacts I would love to see you react to No one but you by Queen which was the final tribute that Roger, Brian and John performed together after Freddie passed. the term for the sound is phasing, a process of two tapes running at slightly different and varing speeds.
