There is a video out about Freddie's voice, where scientists tried to study why he was able too sing the way he could. It's called, "Secrets behind Freddie Mercury's legendary voice" posted by polyphonic. It's very interesting!
When Brian is doing his solo, he is using the Deacy Amp, an amp that John Deacon, an electronics major, created. It is unique to Queen and that Brian still uses to this day.
Again, the studio version of “You Take My Breath Away” is just a mind blowing example of insane harmonies and Freddie’s musical genius. The live versions are also amazing but for different reasons. It’s another perfect song to do reactions to both; the studio and a live version. Great reaction, again BTW. Keep them coming.
This song was one of their first hits. The lyrics are incredibly clever! Freddie was writing about a high priced call girl, but the journey he takes you on makes you feel like you're inside the story. He is truly amazing! Please do White Queen live at Odeon Hammersmith. In my opinion, Queen took a solid song from the record and elevated it it to one of their best just by playing it live!! Great reaction!
Thanks Faith some early Queen, how delicious 😍 A little info, the boys didn't like doing TOTP because miming was insisted on by the show and Queen didn't approve of miming.
wow Interesting, my mom is one year older than you and she didn't even know Queen (except for we will rock you and we are the champions like the most people) until I showed her last year
ben ben I don’t know where you are from, but I grew up near Cincinnati...we had excellent radio stations here that played some really great music throughout the 70s and 80s. I also had older siblings who exposed me to groups like Queen, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Yes, Kansas, The Doors, etc etc... When “Bohemian Rhapsody” made us all go “whatttt?” my one brother spent a chunk of his lawn-mowing money on A Night At The Opera, then searched for and found Queen II and Sheer Heart Attack...and then got A Day At The Races and News Of The World as soon as they came out.
@@imweakfordeaky Well I'm from Germany but my mom grew up in romania I know she had strict Rules and stuff, for example she only was allowed to watch TV on saturdays and stuff. But what I mean is even after she moved to Germany with over 20 years old she still didn't know any music from Queen.( Idk how famous Queen was in Germany) but she never heard of them. And she even was allowed to do anything she wants in Germany, so yea thats sad but my mom can live like that. But I show her new Queen songs each day and She Loves Queen now
The harmonies as always great, you have to do you take my breath away studio version, the voices of Angel's for sure, and Freddie did all the harmonies himself!!
Yeah this was early Queen when they all had long hair and glam outfits. Realize that so far you have concentrated on the big hits (understandable) but think you should intersperse some amazing lesser known stuff. Like March of the Black Queen, Seaside Rendezvous, Cool Cat, Good Old Fashioned Lover Boy, My Melancholy Blues for instance. Also, some of the songs are so intricate that you might consider lyric versions. This is one of them.
I would always recommend studio version first to get an appreciation of the rich harmonies and layered guitars and then live. Queen is unbeatable live but for the first time hearing a song always go for the studio first. There are some songs that they didn’t perform live like one of my favorites, ‚March of the Black Queen‘. They only played the piano opening because it is such a beast. The song ‘You Take My Breath Away’ is another example where live it is performed with vocals and is more haunting but I LOVE the studio version too- almost like 2 different songs. A safe bet is to do the studio first and the line. BOTH are worth it. There is a concert in Japan where Freddie’s voice blew out- can happen to anyone. So if you see a live version from Japan (Freddie wears a red, sparkly one piece suit) don’t even bother. Anything from Wembley, Montreal, Rainbow, Hammersmith Odeon is fire!
Before Queen made it big in America with "Killer Queen", they had done well in Europe with "Seven Seas Of Rhye" (1973). I heard this song when I was stationed with the Army in Germany, and loved Queen ever since.
This was the song that hit the charts for them in 1974. It was also the first song that displayed that famous “Queen Sound”. The music people said that they found their niche. The lyrics are incredibly cleaver, especially for the time. Freddie’s voice was great and that was the beginning of those harmonies. It was a year before Bohemian Rhapsody, which launched them into super stardom. The long hair is very very early Queen, then medium length around Somewhere To Love and then by 1980’s the short hair.
I like this version. There is also one he did in European top of the pops with his striking black outfit. That one is excellent as well. Many of us started out with BoRhap and the guys all having long hair. Freddie didn't grow the mustache until the 80's, so this look is often how we picture him as we hear these early songs. Fans used to send razors to him and even throw them onto the stage to show their disapproval of the mustache. I love every look. You can tell what year it is by the outfits and hairstyles Freddie and Roger sold campy furs and vintage clothes in a market stall in London before they became bandmates and for a while after, to make ends meet.
With Queen, both live and studio versions are gorgeous in their ways. I have a suggestion where the live is definitely a stunner: "White Queen" live at the Odeon, Hammersmith. It's longer than the studio version and they ALL show off seriously beautiful talent and the arrangement is breathtaking. GREAT CHANNEL GIRL! 👑💜🤘🏼💫
This song was the first Queen song I ever heard so it holds a special place in my heart. I love the clothing that they wore from this glam rock era. Did you notice the white nail polish on Brian's left hand? A hold over from Queen 2 with white side/black side and Freddie's matching black nail polish. The song has such a gorgeous melody and the harmonies are incredible. Queen's breakout single!
I like both versions. The studio versions of all Queen songs enabled them to experiment and put together well orchestrated songs. Additionally, they were perfectionists and really pushed themselves in the studio. Live performances gave them the chance to strip down songs and provide a raw rock feel or even changed tempos to keep their audiences engaged in the show. There are many songs Queen did that did not translate well to live performances (I.e., “Prophets Song”) and all of their songs from “The Miracle” album on were never performed live because of Freddie’s battle with AIDS. Just a quick piece of trivia: the North American audiences hated Freddie’s new mustache back in 1980 and kept throwing disposable shavers on the stage.
Hey, Faith. Great way to wake up and the perfect song to get me going before I head out to work. Studio and live are great with this song. Love them both. Some songs you need to hear both. It's good to start with studio to hear the original and then see where they go live with it. Anyway, gotta get my butt to work. Later, Faith, Queen fam...
Killer Queen was my first Queen song that i liked. I was like 9 years old and i couldn't tell what he was saying in the lyrics most times... The lyrics, Gunpowder, Gelatine...gaurenteed to blow your mind! They could be talking about themselves as a band because they are DYNAMITE! You commented on his hair and that is one of the things that you can see in the evolution of the band. If you started in the beginning. Oh shoot...cant wait to watch you react to Brighton Rock!!!!
Ahhh, finally. I love this piece so much. It was one of the first I ever heard and don't ever forget. Sadly for Queen the top of the pops, a BBC production, required that they lip sync only. This, of course, infuriated them, but getting to top of the pops early in their career was considered a big deal so they acquiesced and did it. But they did a darn good job of it; I couldn't notice it. Thanks for this one Faith.
With this song in particular, I like the video better because even though I do like this version in concert, Queen performs it very quickly during the concerts. I personally think that the song sounds best at this tempo.
This was the song from the album that Queen changed it's "Sound" a lot. Queen 1 and Queen 2 were heavy glammy prog rocky glory, Brian got sick from a tour (Hepatitis I think) and Freddie and the others took a lot of the writting over. Queen went for more Pop (though Sheer heart attack as an album is still quite heavy). You got Killer Queen, a song about a high end escort ;) Only freddie.
This is one of the few I prefer the studio version for! Others include "Death on Two Legs" (as it's a hate-filled diss track to their former manager who scammed them out of money with a terrible contract, Freddie got a little angry live lol but it's still awesome), Bohemian Rhapsody (some live versions are stunning, but there's nothing quite like the original to me), "I Want to Break Free", and "Another One Bites the Dust" (the performance itself is one of the best, I just like the sound of the original recording). Some of their more complex early songs, like "March of the Black Queen" and "The Prophet's Song", were hard to do live (not Freddie's vocals, just all of the multi-layering on the originals). Pretty much all the rest are better live in my opinion!
Killer Queen live at the Rainbow is pretty close to the original. But it is a track which is actually impossible to recreate live, the guitar solo alone is a 3 part harmony.
I fell in love with Freddie that night on Top of the Pops I was 15! Ooh and by the way I had the same hairstyle It was called a "feathercut" ha - saw them so many times live and they really were amazing live at every performance
Thank you for another great reaction. I personally prefer the studio version of this song. I just the way Freddie sings in this version. He seems to play with his voice a lot and I love that. The lyrics alone are so clever and the band performance is, well Queen. And Freddie in that jacket with no shirt being very playful is so damn cute. This was the first Queen song to chart in the US, it topped out at number 12 on the Billboard chart. Great song and performance. Keep The Queen Show going. Love it.
Wish I had a hug from that jacket, with him in it obviously 😊. Have you done White Queen live at Hammersmith Odeon 1975? You must if you haven’t... also Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow 1974. Long gorgeous hair. Musical interlude in White Queen WOW ❤️Freddie❤️
You should check out the live FAST version of We Will Rock You they did at the beginning of shows in the late 70's early 80's. Totally different to CLAP, CLAP, STOMP!
The sound of the voices and instruments ...they didn’t have digital yet. They are putting the sounds thru other things amps organ cabinets with trebelo. One time they mixed a voice with a guitar lick together. Was deacon doing some of these things because his degree was in electronics?
This might be my favorite version of Killer Queen, but I would have to go back and see some others to say for sure. Yeah, that jacket is amazing. It looks like fox fur, so Brian would be outraged these days, as devoted as he is to animal welfare causes, & especially his fight against the blood sport of fox hunting in the UK. But attitudes back in those days toward the wearing of fur were quite different, and fur farming was just considered to be another way for a farming family to make a living, no worse than raising chickens or cattle. All of that has come under criticism now, of course, and for good reason. My late ex's family were mink ranchers, and I saw nothing wrong with wearing a little mink collar. But that was then.
Love your reactions to my favorite band ever! Could you react to “Your My Best Friend “written by John Deacon, the bass player? Also “I Want It All “, “Miracle,” and “Love of My Life “ at Wembley.
STUDIO!!! Keep in mind that everyone who says do the live first had the advantage of listening to the studio version first. I think it's only fair that you have that opportunity too!
Fabulous classic! This song is from their third album, Sheer Heart attack and was what catapulted them into the public eye. The ballad is about a high class call girl (aka courtesan) fyi. The show this video was for "top of the pops" was for all up and coming artists and unfortunately, it was required for the band to mime/lip sync to a playback track. Even the drum symbols were fake. The experience must have been pure torture for them to have to mime and also a major insult to their artistic talent and professional integrity. What also sucks is they actually never played the entire song through live, it was always part of a medley. They definitely put the glam in glam rock! Cool little fact, Freddie, Brian and Roger all knew each other before they became a band together. Freddie and Roger also ran a vintage clothes stall together and when it came to looking for possible items to sell, Freddie definitely lived by the motto "one man's trash is another man's treasure" if you catch my drift.
Diana North and many of their early stage wear items were vintage-stall finds... and the four of them shared the clothes, mixing and matching as needed. (Many early videos, you can see that Brian’s sleeves were too short on his long, long arms...because they were Freddie’s or Roger’s clothes. John was able to borrow freely, because he, Freddie, and Roger were all very close in size.
oh you have not yet reacted to bohemian rhapsody studio verse? he also has long hair there...love the 70's queen, his flambouyant looks, acts/moves then is so unique, fabulous considering that its the start of their career...hope you could react to some of the 70's too..younger freddie..tnxmuch...
Oh and just a little Freddie trivia.... although he was undeniably a very sexy beautiful man, he was self conscious about his teeth, but he didn't want to have them fixed in fear it would change his voice, don't know, maybe the air flow in and out may have been different if his teeth were in a different spot in his mouth? Anyhow, I am glad he never did, I loved his smile!
Thanks dear!! Love your Queen journey en enthousiasm. I hope you will react to Its a hard life original video and the live performance live in Rio?? Big hug from the Netherlands. Bless you!
Welcome to the rock music, you have so many bands to discover.. queen is a top band for all of us, if do you like the harmony maybe you can try for example this one, "journey" . There are a lot of cool things to hear and a lot of cool rock bands ;
I love your reaction... Queen has been the band of my life..., specially Freddie Mercury He was a prolific songwriter.., and he was capable to reach every music style with a amazing songs!! Try this one... I dare you..!! Because is amazing!! “The golden Boy”... with Montserrat Caballé.... you’ll gonna love it!! g.co/kgs/XVJUnX Big hugs and kisses to you from Chile 🇨🇱!!
Awesome job Faith, to get two reactions out in one day! You must be a real workaholic. You don't have to stop that much for Queen, Led Zeppelin is far more copy strike happy and restrictive then Queen. The only Queen performance that usually gets blocked is, Is This World We Created at Live Aid, because another company own that specific performance. You can react to the Wembley version of that song, and it would not get blocked. For Queen you properly just have to stop once or twice. For something a bit different from Queen I would suggest Who Wants To Live Forever, and a nice live version is at Wembley 1986 from Friday night th-cam.com/video/MOhuK7aZayw/w-d-xo.html.
His voice is so light and lilting in this version, in the lives he doesn't hit the high notes without shouting, or he drops to a lower register altogether. Sometimes you just lose some of the character in the live version. And in other songs like "it's a kind of Magic" and Dragon attack, the live is better. Once again, just my opinion
He sang the same notes live he just used chest voice instead of falsetto. Freddie's voice also changed by 1977 and again in 1979 and again in 1982, also in 1986 and then again in 1990. His voice sounded very high when he was young but he could actually sing higher later on as his voice developed. Killer Queen at The Rainbow is close to the original. Queen really drop many song to lower keys, one of the songs that were lowered was Who Wants To Live Forever.
You won't have a problem with copyright strikes, when you listen to bootlegs. You might wanna try "We Will Rock You (Slow)" and "We Will Rock You (Fast)" from Detroit 1977. Since they are played together at the beginning of the set, you can probably do them in one reaction video. Here are the links: 1) th-cam.com/video/qVrtSF440U8/w-d-xo.html 2) th-cam.com/video/0gEYVvrbRfs/w-d-xo.html
Normally I prefer the live version of any of their songs. The harmonies are so delicately balanced in the studio version but in the live version, not quite so much.
Hey! ;-) This was the double header one uploaded super late at night so I didnt want to premiere Bicycle when most of tour family were prob asleep so that will be coming today! :-)
Im sorry to spoil your fun thinking they were singing live. Well for starters they were at "top of the pops" where they made Queen lip sync. There is another video of killer queen where you can see that it is obviously playback because of Roger's facial expression (the drummer). Just search "lost top of the pops: killer queen"
I don’t like absolutes. One absolute many people stick to is that Queen is always better live. I disagree. I think they have many songs where they did amazing things with production, in-studio. Killer Queen is one I like much better in the studio than live, because the harmonies are gorgeous. And Roger’s drums are sublime. Plus, Freddie’s lead vocals are so crisp and enunciated so clearly. Live is still great, but the album version of this is one of those near-perfect songs.
That jacket is amazing lol
Please, do the song Liar by Queen please...I really like seeing your reactions, especially to Queen. I just love them.
Fur terminated is not amazing......but Freddy is.
Agreed, would make a great doubleheader as the live version is pretty short
o yes
Lyn A Yes.....even more impressive.
"Amazing but for different reasons" -- this is pretty much my mentality when it comes to live vs. studio. Because why not both?
Etc Exactly!

John also plays the piano in “You’re MyBest Friend”
Also, what other band have you ever heard use lyrics like "fastidious and precise"? lol

KILLER QUEEN WAS THE FIRST TIME I HEARD QUEEN WAS LIKE HEARING THE BEATLES FOR THE FIRST TIME!

the nasality in Freddies voive in this song gets me every time!

@@imweakfordeaky Yeah, cool. I did notice the sharing, thanks.
Diana North I threw that on as a response to you, but really directed more to Faith. Just keeping the information under one thread for her to see. 😊
@@imweakfordeaky Duly noted.
oh you have not yet reacted to bohemian rhapsody studio verse? he also has long hair there...love the 70's queen, his flambouyant looks, acts/moves then is so unique, fabulous considering that its the start of their career...hope you could react to some of the 70's too..younger freddie..tnxmuch...
I love Queen from this period👑
Yea it is really amazing music love it!! :-)
Top of the Pops was a long long running tv music show in the UK
Thanks dear!! Love your Queen journey en enthousiasm. I hope you will react to Its a hard life original video and the live performance live in Rio?? Big hug from the Netherlands. Bless you!
Welcome to the rock music, you have so many bands to discover.. queen is a top band for all of us, if do you like the harmony maybe you can try for example this one, "journey" . There are a lot of cool things to hear and a lot of cool rock bands ;
I think if we show Brian and Roger your reaction to Someone To Love, they will give you permission to all their material!
I love your reaction... Queen has been the band of my life..., specially Freddie Mercury
He was a prolific songwriter.., and he was capable to reach every music style with a amazing songs!!

Big hugs and kisses to you from Chile 🇨🇱!!
Yes, one of the best songs Freddie had ever written.
**Zenobia** I totally agree..., between a lot of beautiful songs he wrote!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Big hugs to you from Chile 🇨🇱!!!
My 1st time seeing Queen 1974 love them love FREDDIE
They had to lip sync on Top of the Pops. What you heard was the studio version.
"The Prophet's Song" please.
Top of the pops in the 70s was a weekly pop show on BBC. Band’s or singer’s they would not them sing live just in case of bad language
You won't have a problem with copyright strikes, when you listen to bootlegs. You might wanna try "We Will Rock You (Slow)" and "We Will Rock You (Fast)" from Detroit 1977. Since they are played together at the beginning of the set, you can probably do them in one reaction video.

Hey tnx for the tip Tom!
God...Freddie was so fricken HOT!!!
This is lip synced, They hated lip synching but that's what they had to do to get noticed back then.
Yeah, TOTP demanded it.
Normally I prefer the live version of any of their songs. The harmonies are so delicately balanced in the studio version but in the live version, not quite so much.
They are lip-syncing to the studio version here, which is not a complaint. The studio version is the one
You promised us Bicycle race , what happened ? 😁
Hey! ;-) This was the double header one uploaded super late at night so I didnt want to premiere Bicycle when most of tour family were prob asleep so that will be coming today!
PINK FLOYD!!!!
Year i was born dammit!
Freddy was goth first
I don’t like absolutes.
Im 12 hahahahahaha but video is good and song 👋👋👋👋👋😂
Watch the Bohemian Rhapsody Movie!!!!!! It will guide you and I can stop commenting!
Pleas react on the Prophet song, promiss me you do. You come to sit with youre mouth open.....lol
The jacket is ugly too me. In another music video of this song, he wears a black jacket that looks much better.
They were lip syncing. Watch the movie.
