Police Crackdown On Overspeeding Drivers

  • To the traffic police a Kenyan motorist is one who follows the traffic rules, only when they suit them...and therefore calls for the best of technology to contain them. Mid last year the government acquired speed guns in a bid to curb the ever rising numbers of road accidents attributed to over speeding. But how do these speed guns work? What advises where they are deployed? Our crews were out there most of today as police carried out impromptu swoops on over speeding drivers and as Willis Raburu now reports the use of speed guns is a process riddled with a fair share of challenges.

    They need to improve on this and have a permanent fixed camera that takes speeding car and it send to police monitoring were by it's easy than climbing a tree

    Camera warnings signs and speed cameras should be cleary visible....its illegal to hide them and then rely them in court to prosecute offenders.

      They hide so that you are caught driving the way you always do. And if you are caught speeding then you are punished. It is the long term behavioural change that's sought.

    The matatus have also found a way to stop the speed governor needle from going past the 80kph mark. So they fool the passengers and probably these inspectors that the speed can't go past 80kph. I recorded a matatu I was riding in doing 110kph using my cellphone's GPS enabled speedo. Having used it with my personal car, it's very accurate.

    Hii ni biashara ya police. The gun ni kiosk yao ya kusumbua Kenyans. I got arrested for doing 86km/h going uphill a place called Kondoo before Eldoret. Apparently you are not supposed to exceed 50km/h but Great Rift Matatu was never stopped despite it leading the climb. Kenya police collect money from them at every road block thus permitting them to overspeed. Actually no single PSV was stopped that day. Ukoloni mambo leo

      Just saw this comment after being stopped at kondoo just after the kabsabet junction.
      I noticed that if they tell you to stop and you don't stop they let you pass but if you stop you are charged for "overspeeding" and not less than 2000..
      Those police at kondoo make a lot of Money especially on weekends

    The rain started beating us while in the driving school, first there is minimal regulation on registration of a driving school. There should be a policy of one student one vehicle one instructer for a period of one hour time
    The roads and road signs
    are also poorly maintained.
    Install fully automated traffic signals and cameras on all major roads and on
    all junctions and connect them to the traffic operations and vehicle registrar

    And we can even come to end the use of many hump/bumps on some highways

  • @sketchsharp45

    The police should be out in the open. Let the drivers see them and alert other drivers so everyone drives responsibly. Isn't that the end goal after all? These tactics are only helping the police"eat".

    • @georgeodhiambo598
      @georgeodhiambo598 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, that's not the purpose of the cameras. They are intended to pick out culprits so that they face punishment. It is the long term behaviourial change and NOT the short term change in activities.

  • @muriuwangai3617

    Before police get to some road section, let them verify that speed warning signs are up and well visible to drivers along all the section. Otherwise it's unfair to accuse a driver without displaying speed signs along the highway.

    But what kills? Overspeeding or careless driving? I think it's careless driving and this auto gear vehicles on our roads. Somebody is issued DL today he/she buys acar tomorrow n gets on the wheels on a highway. Mirraa pickups r manual gear operated, they fly, and are on the roads daily but fewer accidents or even no accidents bcoz the drivers communicate and understands their vehicle language and the incoming vehicle language too. Government ban auto gear vehicles and road accidents will reduce by 70% .

    • @georgeodhiambo598
      @georgeodhiambo598 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They hide the cameras so that you are caught driving the way you always drive. And then punished if found to be speeding. That's the way to effect behavioural change. Motorists are not expected to observe speed limits just for the cameras. Speed limits must be observed with or without the cameras

When you hide and burst them later how will this help to ensure kenyans are safe?
