For those asking (and perhaps should have been mentioned on the documentary). Active ingredient of miraa is cathinone (similar effects to amphetamines) which is converted to cathine in a few hours after harvest of the miraa. Refrigeration or not, it will be converted to cathinone - which accounts for the known side effects of miraa including spermatorrhea, delirium, reduced Libido etc. Hence quite a chuck of why they need fast cars and heavy loads per speed. This is my basic understanding of the khat pharmacology.
Thank you for covering this. It simply means that its the quality of the vehicle that determines the speeds. If PSVs could be serviced in the same manner, they could also keep up with the speeds.
our pride, the passion of being a Merian. many have tried mostly from Mbeere and they don go past Mwea without an accident.... mark you using only a 'probox'
its simple miraa drives cary huge load of miraa hence lowering the center of gravity hence the cars become more stable hence its hard for those cars to get into an accident sice they are more stable
They have a higher center of gravity due to how they are loaded, and more enertia due to how much they carry. It definitely is not making the vehicle safer to drive. A lack of accidents is probably due to the skill of the drivers and respect from other vehicles.
Man i lov these speeds. May God bless n protect those heros. Bt kenyans if tht thing is profitable why doesn't the Government make nice roads ( one way ) so tht its even better to make the deal.
These guys are not evolving like you claim if they were they would have already bought a plane built and airstrip and no longer have to drive to Nairobi or Mombasa and arrive way faster
What is the moral of this story? I was hoping you would also tell us about your conversation with the traffic police e.g. are these miraa vehicles governed by different set of traffic rules? If not, what is the government doing to curb this madness? I travel the Nairobi to Kirinyaga route very often. I am yet to see a miraa vehicle stopped by the police.
80mph on an American freeway is not equal to the same on a Kenyan road. Roads are much narrower, not well marked, have random potholes, terrain is hilly, and goats may appear around any corner dillydallying like goats do. The average American would drive these roads at 40mph, until they adjust.
Modification really helps!! Just hit those potholes and bumps with normal springs and suspension at such a speed, uone kama gari yako haitakaa ni kama Ina ugonjwa ya rickets kwa miguu!!
Enough with this small thinking that leads to unnecessary risks. Kama wewe ni hustler/business man invest in a refrigerated lorry. And drive normal speeds C'mon!
@@joeimagesllc And what does the airflow do? It reduces temperature, would you agree. A refrigerated vehicle might just be better. Or even better have an airstrip in Meru to fly tl Nairobi ama Somalia directly
You don't understand this aren't you? Somalis and Meru's are interdependent when it comes to Mirra, Actually Somalis started exporting this perishable gold from Meru to all over the world. I'm a Somali and my father was a mirraa driver in the 70'S from Meru to the north even inside Somalia. My point the first mirra drivers were Somalis fact. The people of meru should really be asking for an airport.
we already have an airport in Isiolo
Why aren't they using it?
Isiolo is a stone’s throw away.
The drivers will lose their jobs

A lot of discipline goes in the execution of travel services. It reminds of the stringent regime that's goes around aircraft maintenance. Ironic huh?
If its all about Maintaining the freshness of the miraa, how about you deploy cooled containers instead??
In a cooler, miraa loses it's stimulant quality, it loses taste ama effect if you like
It will nt be fresh at a chakula ikikaa kwa fridge huskiangi utamu wake
Until u become a consumer of miraa u cannit understand, nani anakula kilalo ngumu, miraa ni fresh pekee

I met him back in 2014 at garissa PGH his leg was amputated hope he's ok wherever he is 😪😪😪
It means good news wallkey
why they don't use refrigerated cargo bodies on the trucks baffles me to this day. yet miraa is a seriously profitable cash crop.
The plane will hv gone if they don't arrive on tym
Because they don't have to, they deliver on time without refrigeration, why add refrigeration?
U mean they use fridges ...and leave earlier
If only you could translate the garage owners language to english,,good documentary though

They run 80-90 miles..that is the speed every driver in America drives..even grandmas...cool with that "supers speed" bs.
the highways are not as wide or as god as in america as you can see, so 80-90 miles an hour is quite fast.
haha the terrain of meru requires one to be at 50 and below......80 is suicidal
80mph on an American freeway is not equal to the same on a Kenyan road. Roads are much narrower, not well marked, have random potholes, terrain is hilly, and goats may appear around any corner dillydallying like goats do. The average American would drive these roads at 40mph, until they adjust.
