  • Those in Hawaii wanting to build or renovate their home wait three times longer for permits, on average, than those in other states. That's according to a University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization Brief. For the news you need to know, visit www.KITV.com.

The state needs to have a class action lawsuit filed against it for running a criminal enterprise at the building department.

The Mayor promised to streamline the process during his campaign for election. Another broken promise.

Now that they can't take bribes down there it is really slow things down you have to understand that money greases the wheels one way or the other let them accept small bribes and gifts and watch all this backlog clear up overnight God bless you and your family aloha from palolo

Exactly. Like why do these greedy morons feel so entitled to gifts just to do their jobs? That's why they have salaries uggggh.

Less nepotism. Need more cousins, brothers, uncles to get engineering degrees to fill those Positions. Otherwise they might have to hire outside of their preferred Asian line of descent. We all know that’s gonna happen.

@@jerrymylove1754 Sorry for my anger. You're completely correct. Everything you mentioned requires quality education. Not "make any kine". That's where my anger comes from. I came from a family with decent means where education was paramount. But truthfully as a real Samoan NONE of us have the right to look down on the Hawaiian people who got forced into this. I have a drop of Hawaiian Blood but I know my place as Polynesian. I'm stranger compared to the natives even though I come from Chiefly Blood.

Trying to build an ADU for my parents. They may not be around by the time the permits are approved. Now they say I need a concrete driveway rated for fire trucks! WTF? And sprinklers in the new unit! Soooo corrupt. I was told maybe the inspector won’t say anything because it’s not his kuliana! Sounds like I have to grease somebody’s palm!!! What a mess Hawaii is, especially with the lack of affordable housing.

Bring stuffed envelopes with your applications .

So it was faster when you bribed them and slower now that you can't, that's not a staffing issue. If the 5 people that went to jail were the problem then the situation would have improved but it didn't it actually got worse. Hiring more people into a corrupt environment doesn't change the environment.

While its evident that paying them had in the past helped too push permits through u can also have clients that'll pay for u too proceed and catch a fine and that helps too push ur permits through quicker 🤣🤙💯but too have ur plans on a waite for a year too a year and a half is hard too honor the estimation due too price increases and tax changes and nobody who runs a business wants too lose money because of the snail pace permitting ...the building and permitting office has gotta come up with a resolution on processing permits at a faster pace ...or your stuck on each phase of building in order too pass and move on too the next step as well as pay your overhead ...speed it up sheeesh 🤣✌🤦‍♂️

Just build what you want to build unless they hired 5 more honest employees?.I don't see the city taking down pallet walls and blue tarps.

The budget for the software has not been approve and it never will be. This is the norm and the reality of getting a permit. Like that saying goes, "It is what it is." haha.

No one waits for permits. The slum Lord down the street has nearly finished his new apartment, zero permits

So, like when the Costco receipt checker falls behind, everyone is expected to just wait. Get ready to lose everything you have! You will own nothing and you'll like it! Real talk. That's

Not enough older Japanese dudes to sit in a cushy government job left to fill those positions. Gonna have to pull them from other government offices.

LOL! I know right? Seem like every government dept top to bottom is headed by some slow motion Japanese guy who live Aina haina and no care about people. How about they work nights and weekends until they catch up?

    • @jerrymylove1754

@@bigkanak797 on Maui it’s real bad. The whole concept of earning a living versus having one given to you is foreign to government drones. I grew up on the big island and it’s was like that back then in the eighties when I was growing up. My dad was a general contractor for years and I remember him complaining about it way back then. The irony is they also own a lot of properties as well. He said it had to do with slowing down the process so the value won’t go too low so fast. If there’s less of them out there then they will have more value in theirs.
