Love and grew up with the Sega Master System here in Australia really enjoyed your video 👍 ❤️ Alex Kid , all Wonder Boy games / Monster Land / Monster World 3 Dragon Trap , Power Strike and so many more
I know Irem made R-Type, but it's weird that Nintendo put out the arcade, yet the home port was on the SMS instead of the NES. Way to show thanks, Irem!
That is very strange. They also ported R-Type to every other system under the sun it seems. Maybe those pesky 3rd party agreements Nintendo forced everyone into kept them from porting it to the NES?
I give all these games a thumbs-up! Anyone in North America who collects physical games will sadly have to look to Europe, Australia and Brazil to get their hands on some of the very best games for the SMS. Power Strike, Power Strike II, Desert Strike, Gauntlet, Ninja Gaiden, Master of Darkness, Batman Returns, Asterix & the Secret Mission, Dragon Crystal, Micro Machines, Lucky Dime Caper, and many more were never released in North American stores.
I owned a Master System as a kid and I've been loving this series. Everything you'd said is dead on regarding the quality of games that were there. I'm still making my way through the video, but I agree with every pick I've seen so far.
I had both a Master System and an NES back in the day, and I think the Master System was superior in almost every way... it just never got the same large game library that the NES had.
Great list indeed. You’ve got quite the collection for not owning the system for too long. I’m with you on how lucky we are to have such amazing games like the Disney collaborations and such. It brings me back to my childhood as well when playing games like that. It’s truly comforting to know that others love there games for the same reason. ;)
My first console was a Master System. Only had twelve games, as I was just a little kid. I remember having: Shinobi, Golden Axe, Super Tennis, Golden Axe Warrior, Miracle Warriors, Dragon's Crystal, Ghouls & Ghosts, Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Sonic 1&2, Populous and Heroes of the Lance. I have never sold any, nor my original Master System 2. Have since collected a full set (except for the Smurfs Travel the World, released only in France). I use a Master System 1 now, because it has SCART and is compatible with the 3d glasses and SEGA cards.
I had a Master System 2 when I was younger and I enjoyed it. As I've been looking into getting another one this list has given me a few ideas for games to get once I do. Thanks for this.
I still own my master system.it has proven to be the most durable console that ive ever had.i love the 80s and 90s sega.I always supported sega even during its fall.
I was giving it some thought and if I were to give a list of SMS games, I would also consider diversity of game play. Otherwise you might see half of the suggestions being platformers ^_^ Some games below might not be the best of the best or essential, but imho they are solid and fun and do provide some variety to the SMS library. Black Belt - When I was a kid I loved martial art games. This one blew Fung Fu away and the boss fights was almost like an early Street Fighter game! As an added bonus, it was basic Fist of the North Star without the license in the west. Space Harrier - For the time this version was really good for a home console and a great example of a forward facing 3D shooter. The Ninja - Essentially and overhead shooter with a twist. This was a fun game with an interesting levels. Rambo first blood pt2 - For the fans of Commando. In my opinion, it was the better game :) Zillion - This was really good game that was like...shooter-adventure-puzzle-infiltration. Kind of like Metroid meets Impossible Mission. Choplifter - Probably the best home version at the time Pro Wrestling - Ok, some people might think I'm crazy here but this was a fun little wrestling game that played more like a beat-em-up. Its also a blast if you have four friend do pseudo 4 player tag action. Shang Hai - Ok, people might think I'm crazy again and this one is not great or anything...but it's basically a game in the same vein as solitaire and who hasn't indulged in solitaire. Its cheap and it definitely adds a different kind of game to the library. ^_^ Columns - solid Tetris wannabe ^_^
Gotta say that you have a underrated channel. Your videos have really good production value. You got me to subscribe. Oh, and couple of great SMS games: Master of Darkness, and Black Belt. Master of Darkness is a Castlevania clone with great atmosphere; and Black Belt is a Kung Fu clone, but done much better.
Cmon your missing Space harrier ok and Rambo, Rampage ok Hang on ,Final Fantasy, Black Belt !!and omg i cant believe you did not add choplifter another great classic!!
I played all games on every classic consoles..but I only played these in emulators which I have never own any of these, which truly made me a bit sad..but some of its games which I played it before..Alex Kidd is one of my first Master System Games I have ever played..
I think their chance to do that was with the Genesis Mini. The thing honestly should have been a "Sega Classics" console, and included games back from the SG-1000 up to the 32X.
@@homiedclown -you're probably right but i can dream. I think it would sell good tho, we know the system was loved in several countries and i think a limited run in the US would do fine too. Take care.
Is Fantasy Zone 2 really considered the best in the series? I thought it was considered the worst lol. Its the DX arcade remake thats considered the best in the series afaik.
@dustin miller, Yeah, but that is the trend with most Master System games. They are all getting quite expensive. Unless you just go with Sports or the bottom of the barrel games, anything as decent as the games I show in this video are likely going to cost you. I just did some research and saw the average price for a loose game on the Master System is around $32 for a loose cart. Again, importing from PAL can be much cheaper for some of these games. The average price for a loose cart from PAL regions is around $23 according to my research.
@BillB808, Yeah, I hear you on that. I think it adds to the challenge without being totally unfair. To be honest, I didn't really think about it when I first played it. I thought, "Why does no one talk about this game?"

Thanks @Reagan Dow. It has been hard work getting games for the Master System.

That is great @Casper Egas! I would have loved to had one of these consoles growing up.
I had a Master System 2 when I was younger and I enjoyed it. As I've been looking into getting another one this list has given me a few ideas for games to get once I do. Thanks for this.
Thanks @Jeremy LaMastus! Glad I could help.

Very glad my first experience with this system was on console, but I hear you on the emulation. It's hard to get one of these systems in the U.S.
I really love the master system. I wish we'd get a mini

Sega Master System is still sold in Brazil.
Great job on the list.
Bubble Bobble: Highly Recommended, import N O W
Future SMS video idea: 10 Essential region free non-North American games.
Does your Govellius have an FM sound chip inside? The music sounds so rich!
It is the Sega Mark III fm version of the soundtrack. It sounds so much better than the OG sound chip.
@@PlayerOneStart It's awesome!
Rastan and Double Dragon were good also
I Still Need To Buy The Multi Cartridge For My SEGA MASTER SYSTEM And I Like THE TOM AND JERRY - THE MOVIE VIDEO GAME. 😃👍.
Cool 👍
SEGA Master System is STILL sold in Brasil!
Damn, granny out here making a killing off you.

I can't say its the best in the series as I haven't played them all, but the better of the titles I've played for the Master System. I enjoy it.
I honestly believe Fantasy Zone: The Maze on the master system is by farrrr the worst
Great video....but isn't SMS Sonic very expensive?
The U.S. version is quite expensive. However, if you import it from PAL regions, it is very reasonably priced.
@@PlayerOneStart most of these are expensive pal or ntsc

One word. Well maybe 2 words I don't know... anyway it's Dragon crystal 🔮.
Check it out
Hi :) 😀🤘🏼
You forgot, Y's.
??
Psycho fox has the worst momentum (or lack of), im always shocked to see it gets in everyones top 10 lists its rubbish!
I guess it's one of those titles that is great once you get pass the learning curve.
@BillB808, Yeah, I hear you on that. I think it adds to the challenge without being totally unfair. To be honest, I didn't really think about it when I first played it. I thought, "Why does no one talk about this game?"
@dtester, That is a good way of putting it. :)
