I'll never forget the utter excitement in April 1992 when the store called to say my pre-ordered SNES was available to collect TWO WEEKS before the advertised UK launch date!

To me, the controller design is its legacy. That layout became the template others would build upon.

My favorite console by a wide margin. I always regard it as the console where gaming went from being a fun past time to being my favored hobby and form of entertainment.

Great video. I was so excited to get my SNES the Christmas of the release year. Anytime I traveled with family I had my SNES packed with a bunch of games ready to go. I just hooked up to any TV I could get to like they did in the movie The wizard!

My SNES is still gray and only the controller ports have yellowed. It's not my childhood SNES though. That one was yellowed by as early as 1996/1997. 😎

I cant remember but didnt mario rpg also require a special chip, a dsp chip, sa-1 i believe. Think it was used in compression.
It wasnt later in life that i found out ALOT of snes games used dsp type chips.
Pretty genius when you think about it, putting the system upgrades in the games themselves so you can sell the system cheaper and offsetting that cost to the game companies and then the consumer.

I actually got bored with snes. The games just started to look and feel the same? Anybody get that? Traded collection for Genesis and eventually Sega CD. Sega felt more grown up, at the time, like for teens with tude. The marketing worked on me I guess in the mid 90’s.

SNES was amazing and all, but I feel that the PlayStation was even better.
