To this day this stuff still happens. It annoys me, who dislikes seeing all this thirst trap & over sexualized content, and when I was younger threw the device across the room over getting one of those suspicious "chose your path" dating type simulation ads. (no devices broken thankfully) It's outrageous, and why I typically use ad-blockers on TH-cam.
And now they want ad-blockers gone. Maybe if you made them bearable, people would watch them. Crazy, isn't it, TH-cam?

Fun fact, my brother did that too, where my moms debit card was hooked up to our kindles as a way of letting me buy books if I wanted them badly enough (with permission).
My brother spent over $500 on mobile games and when my (very poor) mother went to take a look at her bank acct to wonder why the car payment and phone payment were calling her about not being able to go through, she freaked out.
Thankfully the bank and Amazon refunded us but lord it was so ridiculous and we laugh abt it now but that was a time WITHOUT ads. I can’t imagine how it would be with ads.
Also for context, my brother would sneak his kindle into his room at night to play games, my mom had bought them for us specifically for reading books cus we had super limited space where we were. After this my mom put heeeellllaaaa locks on it and removed her card info from his acct, and instead hooked it up to a gift card that’s he would occasionally reload.

I LITERALLY GOT SOME INAPPROPRIATE AD BEFORE THIS
For months now, youtube has been giving me AI girlfriend ads in my reccomended, and every time I click "block ad" or "dont show this ad anymore". TH-cam still keeps giving me these thirst traps. Some of them are just straight up advertising dating apps. I wish TH-cam would implement an age filter or something for ads, that allows people to turn off these annoying clickbait ads. Sadly they probably account for most of the ads on the platform, and such a decision would mean less $$$ for TH-cam.

It might well be the same video file, reuploaded by another account for advertisement. So you may not see ad 1gj42ig90 again, but that won't stop TH-cam from showing a82gd2n9x instead. Plus, afaik, you can select target viewers when making an ad campaign.

The tragic part about the blue-haired girl in the FNF NSFW thumbnail is the story behind that character.
That character is named Sky, and was made by an artist who was 15 year old at the time. That artist only created the OC to be a tribute to Boyfriend from FNF, but unwittingly saw her rise to popularity when, without him knowing, modders took her character and made a mod and songpack for her.
The mod was really successful, but after it became popular a lot of players started sending harassing messages (including persecuting him with his deadname, as he's transexual) and NSFW images of Sky to the author. That made him go into literal breakdowns (We're talking about a 15 year old here, just as a reminder) and lash out against the community by posting images of blood and gore online. Eventually, the creator of the mod apologized and took it down, and even the server hosting most FNF mods prohibited the uploading of Sky content for a long time.
Sky's author eventually wanted to distance himself from the character so much that he gave the rights to it to another creator...who later turned out to have been grooming minors.
But of course advertisers think nothing of that and just plaster art of a character that hurt and haunted her UNDERAGE creator and his community in thumbnails, and TH-cam just lets them do that, because who the fuck cares about the mental health of a kid who has been scarred by that exact image, hmm?
TH-cam when they hear this: "But.. but.. but.. moneyyyyyyyy!!!!!1!!1 :(((("

In my experience, the worst offenders are games like State of Survival. Some of their more recent ads blatantly mock their own business practices, and just make all of them look even worse. I think I’ve lost brain cells each and every time I’ve see them.

Listen, Mesopotamians had a written down codex on how to properly do anal. Breeding with animals wasn't seen as something terrible until the Dark Age's, when Christianity became the terribly restricted dogma it is today. Sleeping with whores was a sign of opulence, and sex got you to the top far faster than now. If anything, with all the social rules added over the centuries, we have become less horny than before.

i think the best simple way to yet explain ads even targeted towards younger audience is basically like a stranger on the street trying to offer a kid to get in there van or to show off something that is going to leave them scared and baited in even for things that they may like for example candy.
which that's basically a way to explain it and hopes to show platforms like TH-cam and such grow to realise this is basically what it is in basic and even if this video really does explain how bad it all is to stuff like this.
the sniper in the ad at 21:28 fires a pistol bullet from her rifle and the character acts like they felt the recoil. As a person who has fired both 9mm handguns and rifles, if you fired a pistol bullet from a rifle that size you would likely not feel it at all especially while lying prone like that. if you were not wearing ear protection then you would feel your eardrums losing there hearing and that is about it.
Wasn't the demonetization apocalypse that took place in the mid 2010's all about advertisers being uncomfortable with the clickbait and sexualized videos TH-camrs were cranking out? And thus, TH-cam changed it's policy to appeal to advertisers and punish the clickbait?
Well now the ads ARE the clickbait, and TH-cam allows it while still punishing content creators
I don't care if all of TH-cam ends up being nothing but scantily clad girls, as long as both advertisers and creators are treated the same. Either that, or all of TH-cam becomes as clean as a Christian Minecraft server, I'm just sick of the hypocrisy
The difference is ultimately down to the fact of who has to pay who... TH-cam pays TH-camrs, but TH-cam is paid by advertisers... Thus, TH-cam isn't going to kill the money it earns anytime soon.

Yeah. At this point, there genuinely needs to be some form of government interception against all major companies that allow these ads to be approved. And instilling clear, strict enforced guidelines on how to advertise mobile games, with a hefty fine should the guidelines be violated. Maybe even development rights revoked and legal prosecution too.

21:10 the most comical part of all that is the fact that right after you said “Get a job”, I got a Burger King advert. I know it’s because of the whole camera-and-government thing, but I couldn’t help but laugh mentally when i put two and two together.

Remember often seeing ads for a web comic called Learning the Hard Way. Decided to read it one day cause I was bored and the ads didn’t make out to be anything bad, really. Anyways so, I, ironically, learned the hard that one should not read it unless they’re 18+. I noped out of there real quick and have been scarred ever since! Ironic, or something akin to that, how an ad that wasn’t explicitly sexual ended up being such and vice versa for plenty of ads as of late, albeit for mobile games rather than web comics.

Not so fun fact: mobile game ads ARE actually illegal, due to literal lies and theft of intellectual property. But due to how many there are, and how the games are technically "free", no legal system cares enough to do anything about it.... so they even manage to get away with, quite literally, breaking the law.

You would think since TH-cam is a U.S.-based company, that some government lawyer could start filing lawsuits en-masse and sue for false advertising. When you look at how much money Saber says the mobile game market is making, that's a small country's annual budget right there.

The idea I get of asexuals are teenagers that are either late bloomers or actually using their prefrontal cortex and compare themselves with their peers that think just with their hormones. They then claimed this and a community grew around it and they don't want back out now, since they announced it. Or they silently enter relationships and don't bring it up. Because asexuals shouldn't exist, millions of years of evolution are against you. It would be like saying, oh, I don't eat. The hypothalamus is used for sex and eating. It's instinct. I'm starting to seriously consider an AdBlock...my biggest issue is the abusive way that TH-cam pushes these ads. They will interrupt mid-sentence to then push you to pay them money (TH-cam Premium) to get them to stop...that is LITERALLY EXTORTION...then also follow with one of the above-mentioned fake game ads and they will BOTH be completely unskippable!
Get just a minute or two further into a video and TH-cam will do the same thing again. Honestly, you want a bad advertising experience? Be a former premium member and see how hard TH-cam will try to extort you to get you back on...why they haven't been sued yet is BEYOND me! 😡🌋
Fun fact matpat did a whole video on ever tails ads and there seem to be some sort of cohescent story that he said himself would have been a lot. Cooler would have made the mobile game better. Would have made a decent game if they just used what was in the ads cuz when it was all pieced together it was kind of cool but they went a different route. They deceived all of the viewers with an ad for something that they just use that store line it will open better

Before anyone uses the "Oh, it's based on your watch history." excuse, it's happening to everyone. My brother, who's 9, watches the blandest, most child-friendly minecraft videos and clips of his favorite TV shows. He gets ads like this.
I use mostly incognito mode and have targeted ads off for youtube and Google and I still get these ads.
I never got that kind of ads, ipuntil I let my 9 year old sister use my iPad for TH-cam, no I get videos and ads like that all the time, so it has to do with that, though not entirely. I mean, I loo to my recommended videos and it’s literally “lucky Minecraft vs unlucky Minecraft but it’s sexy cursed” and the thumbnail is a Steve and a Minecraft girl on a bed with heart eyes

I always get those ads when I'm playing a mobile game that has REAL ADVERTISING, and I have the game muted in settings, but not my phone, so I'll get an ad with screaming and crying suddenly when I'm in public. My favorite.

Oh god the evertale ads. One of the only times i checked the google play store because of an ad. I mean a monster collecting game with straight up horror elements (like legit horror not creepypasta stuff), that sounded sooo dope. I don't know if i was more pissed that i got taken in or that NOBODY has made a good run at the idea (seriously look it up, most are in indefinite development, lame script hacks, or way too short map hacks from creepypastas).
I saw a very unfortunate add for an rpg game that literally had to blur out this woman’s chest because she was a naked demon! And she just casually went up and sat on a guys lap! WHY DOES IT EXIST ITS DISGUSTING

Funny thing, the adds Saberspark showed at the beginning are all mostly from the same channel, which isn't well received in the FNF community at all (not to mention how a character named Sky (blue-haired girl) is used frequently despite the mod being taken down _since the creator regrets what the mod caused afterwards._ ) There's even a parody-mod in the works highlighting the clickbaity TH-camrs.

Best one I have see so far and I don't know if anyone else has had this, TH-cam blocked my Ad Blocker which sucks now I have to see all these shitty ads I won't ever be interested in unless I have a bunch of strokes that make me complete stupid but as soon as I removed ad blocker the first add I had on TH-cam was Total Adblock, like seriously WTF.

An aspect of advertising low quality games that I noticed (and absolutely disgusted by, for the lack of a better word), is when youtube gamers (and not only them) are sponsored by the developers of these games in order to be included in the video.
The issue is that the gamers do NOT and would not play these games themselves. These games are not featured on these channels anywhere, besides the first minutes of the video where the sponsorship is present. Yet they speak highly of the games, like it is the most exciting and best game they've ever played.
And if we talk about non-gamer channels, well, it is more obvious that the youtubers don't give a s..., ehhm, don't care about where they get the money, despite the channel's focus.

I remember seeing a mobile game ad that stole music from Undertale, namely Sans' theme (not Megalovania, the other one called "sans.").
Having a young kid in the room with me as I watch this and hearing them parrot the noises/sound clips from these ads really puts it all into perspective.
Yeah my little ones can repeat TH-cam ad sound effects like it's the movie quotes I used to share with my friends. Instead of memorizing things that were a genuine attempt at comedy and romance, my sister's are reciting mobile game ads like it's a cult.

The ad I saw to watch this video called Idle Angels. That had a guy's hand covering part of the obligatory hot cartoon girl and proclaimed that the had to do this to avoid censorship. It was too spicy to show the game as an ad.

I actually worked for a mobile game company as a game designer back in 2019 where they made clones in which before the game even starts, there was a hug button than covered 80% of the screen where clicking anywhere would cost you 8000 indian ruppees. I was so disgusted after watching their other practices,i quit after 4 days and started my own company.

I remember getting an ad for one of those weird, ancient China story games (you know the ones) . They were apologizing for their bizarre ads. Saying that they were just trying to imitate western ads to get more attention.
And of course they were offering a free code to whoever gets their game at that moment as an even further apology. At first I felt bad for them. I didn't get the game of course (not my style) but I thought it was nice they apologized and seemingly stopped making those stupid ads. However, now it seems like several other games are doing the exact same thing. So I'm not too sure I feel all that bad anymore.

Yeah as annoying as Raid: Shadow Legends is with them having every other youtuber selling their game, it was surprisingly very accurate to what the game actually is.
You can delete User Reviews on Google Play Store without needing anyone to review it. Raid does this.
If you respond with a Developer Comment and the user doesn't update the review you can delete the review without authentication from Google by classifying it as "Spam" or "Review Bombing" as these will instantly archive the comment for review or delete it entirely.

It is a sad time to realise that Lilly's Garden and raid shadow legends are the only mobile games putting effort and original content in their ad's.
That's true despite the Lilly's garden ad that involved the washing machine made me want to remove my eyeballs. But yes they do put heaps of effort in it
I remember getting random Raid Shadow Legends ads and actually being kinda entertained because they had effort.
But like, Lilys garden ads are still nothing like the actual game. It's still false advertising.
The Raid ads were actually pretty entertaining even if they didn't tell you anything about the game. I think the main reason they got such a bad rep was because they spammed sponsorships and the in-video ad reads were all long and following the exact same script. Unfortunately, these were also the only ads that told you anything about the gameplay.

I’ve been seeing ads of it pretty frequently. Weirdest thing is, I don’t play those kinds of games! I play collection games and battle simulators, so I don’t even know why TH-cam is sending me those ads!

At first I thought you said Jim Browning, which would also make sense. These ads are definitely an illegal scam - as Game Theory pointed out, it's just hard to prosecute, since the victims know the ad was a lie (theoretically) by the time they make any in-app purchases.

The one ad that is absolutely unacceptable for me is one under PETA, which is trying to bring down a university that uses animal experimentation for medical resources. The ad immediately plays audio of owls screaming bloody murder, clearly in excruciating pain, with text describing what's supposedly happening in the given audio. While the reasoning behind this specific test on owls seems wildly unnecessary (it's an unfortunately brutal study on how the brain regulates where it directs its attention), I also found after some research, that PETA was also a tad misleading in their horrendously disturbing ad, and were blatantly trying to take advantage of people who would, understandably, become angry at the sounds of animals in pain. I first saw it about 4 months ago. It brought me to tears and made me lose sleep for the next couple of weeks. It really is disturbing. I'm commenting now as it *just* played again on a COOKING video. The first time I saw it, I wanted to give TH-cam the benefit of the doubt thinking SURELY it would be taken down. But nope, an ad with the first 5 seconds completely unskippable blasts itself in my face with piercing screams of a suffering animal. These crappy mobile game and even scam ads on the side of the screen are one thing, but how on earth is this, as an unavoidable ad before a video, allowed on this platform?

I one time saw a similar ad with a young girl with cancer crying about their fear of dying. It scared me and made me feel like crap. Of course, the ad was asking for donations. Goddamn money, and they were holding people's morals hostage like "Will you let this girl die? Or will you give us money to save her?". It still pisses me off.

So these ads kind of make me feel uncomfortable, but what makes me truly shriek in disgust is when my baby sister (thank god she doesn’t understand the narrators of these ads) sees these kinds of ads showing such things and I always worry it might have a bad effect on her. We can’t take children off youtube, there’s a lot of baby shows in there, and I can’t even find all of it on TH-cam kids… so these ads really need to stop.
If it makes you feel any better, searching for the Barn Owl's call on TH-cam shows it is simply a somewhat louder version of it; the animal itself has a horrifying call in the wild.
I wonder when PETA is gonna release all the videos of them euthenizing puppies and kittens? They also do this a LOT: take videos wildly out of context, and mislead people about what's happening in the video. They've taken videos of animal cruelty from countries with borderline non-existent animal welfare laws, and pass them off as happening in the U.S.
