Pat losing his shit over the last two episodes of Twin Peaks and checking the clock as the last 30 minutes play out might be my favorite mental image of all time lol. It’s not that I don’t agree with him, but unlike D&D and BSG, Lynch knew exactly what he was doing. Yeah I don’t think anybody saw this coming, if you say you did I’d call you a liar unless you just meant in a broad “it’s gonna suck” kind of statement
One continuity error and people's unrealistic expectations of season 8 episode 3 and suddenly "game of thrones is garbage now" the show is amazingly directed and shot and the writing is above alot of good shows, yes it has dumb shit like some of season 7 but I swear woolie is overreacting
@@RhysClark97 I mean when the writers says danaerys forgot that the Iron fleet existed just so her second dragon would die, that's pretty terrible... Along with the entire shitshow of winterfell
What really sucks is that if GRRM finishes the book somehow, and a reboot happens to FMA: Brotherhood the whole thing. Even if you hated the show, you have to admit that some of these are perfect casting and whether you disliked how the show went from the start or not, characters like Tywin or Joffrey or Oberyn or Cersei or Robert, were played amazingly by their actors. You know they will be recasted, and pale in comparison to their performance.
He'll never end the series. Georgie boy wrote himself into a hole where his series has no clear ending. Like what plot line do you end on? Jon/winter? The iron throne? Danny? He expanded it way too far narratively, and would have to pull the biggest ass pull in history to close all plot lines.
@@JapanFreak2595 The way theyll probably tie up jon and the iron throne in the show is having him take it and blow it up, making it all individual kingdoms again. Problem is danny and essos still exists
I love the current podcast and still won't miss a single episode, but i kind of miss this vibe right here. No matter how good their chemistry is, there's no way to emulate a face to face conversation in the same room. Obviously this would be almost impossible with them living on opposite sides of the continent but IF they do an "in person special" of some sort in the future it would be the absolute best thing ever.
Same man. It’s why I still watch the old channel religiously, the vibe of 2-4 chuckle fucks in a small apartment room recording games is peak LPing. I think streaming is too cluttered and messy, and having everyone separate just lacks the same energy that you feel when you’re in a room with people you like.
The problem with the casual vs hardcore argument is twofold One: GoT is like lost in that in encouraged speculation as to it's plot direction then demands you turn your brain off and ride the emotional high when it breaks the plot or dips in quality to get us there. B) when media turns to write towards a casual audience it usually does so at the expense of the invest audience that made it popular. In passive media this usually means spectacle over substance and in active media it means lower quality or "streamlined" mechanics to open up access, usually coming along with other bad ideas casuals will tolerate. So, in summation, how you enjoy a product can absolutely have wider ramifications on the future.
Two episodes to go and without any context I'll fucking bet my dick and a hamburger itll be a better ending than "The island was purgatory all along and the journey was the flashbacks you had along the Naruto."
@@daysand123 But the island wasn't purgatory. For some reason so many people still think "they were dead the whole time" when that was just the flash moments in the final season. The events of the show happened and they were alive. People seem to blow Lost's finale being terrible way out of proportion.
You know what I hate the most is when writers/directors get called out for having a shitty ending and they respond with “well it’s not about the destination but the journey.” It’s basically the same as being given a nice, well wrapped gift for your birthday and you’re just super excited to see what’s inside, so you open it up to only find a turd. Then you turn to the person and ask “why did you give me a turd?” And their response is “well I’d spent all my money on the wrapping paper.”
I haven't seen endgame, but how collaborative it was reminds me of how Kojima, for Snakeeater, had everyone offer a suggestion to put in the game, which resulted in the most mechanically deep games I've ever seen.
What you said around 53:35 reminded me of a conversation i had with my sister about Mario Kart 64, where the final verdict was "that game was not actually all that good, but I love it to hell anyway" and there is nothing wrong with that at all.
i assume it would have been fairly easy to cg the coffee cup out if they cared enough. reminds me of that blurb that it would have been “too expensive” for jon to say goodbye to ghost properly. more like they just didnt care enough to do it 🤷♀️
Pat talking about Battlestar Galatica reminds me of Philbert: the fictional show in Bojack Horseman where the author kept writing a mystery and plot twists, but has no idea what's the answer at the end of the show.
Season 1-4 are gold GoT started falling apart with 5-7, but there were still good parts Season 8 is about closure, something I don't think GRRM would give 100% of
The shows was in a lose lose situation were they rush and finish the king's landing storyline first and people get angry and disappointed or they finish the white Walkers storyline first and people get angry and disappointed they decided to get rid of the zombies first which has always been a side plot in this show.
can anyone confirm that woolie changed his haircut to look like the villian from black panther? Some else mentioned it but I couldn't tell if it was a joke or not.
As someone who doesn't even watch GoT, between this podcast convo, Shadiversity ripping the battle a new one, and PSAsitch criticising it, I'm supremely entertained. This is an interesting experience to see as an outsider looking in
It's honestly just depressing to me. To watch something that so many people enjoyed and built a community around is just set ablaze, and you can only watch and listen to the tormented screams coming from within the burning building. I've been there, but never before has it ever happened to such an extent. This is like the 9/11 of Fandom disasters, and a reminder that anything you love could crumble instantly. RIP GoT fandom.
Startwork is a strong way to describe what you’re telling me. Also, the turn your brain off part is basically just BD Joe going “You’re alright, get in!” in Crazy Taxi.
Those making-of videos that autoplay after the episode are like finishers. If you gave something weird in that episode the benefit of the doubt, prepare to have D&D cash the fuck out of that grey damage by explaining exactly what they were thinking, and it's infinitely dumber than you could have ever imagined.
As a guy having not seen a single episode until this final season and only learning the story elements from memes, I can say, I have no idea what any of the characters story arcs are, but I'm feeling like if I did know, I'd hate this season.
You have no idea, man. I stopped after season 5, caught up a bit later I preparation for this new season, and I’m watching season 8. Holy shit do I hate it. They REALLY botched it. Straight up RUINED it.
41:12 I don't know if I'd call "Mauler" the deepest dive as much as "The longest swim." He has a bad habit of spending an extraordinary amount of time saying fuck all. Repeatedly.
MauLer did a very good episode breakdown of it. Basically it completely invalidates the entire premise of the show and the entire character arc of Jon Snow is also ruined as well. They also sacrificed all logic in exchange for cool visuals that you can barely see because 95% of the entire episode is dark.
man, can you just imagine if star wars tried to make a new trilogy and had no idea were it was going? ....wouldn't just be the dumbest thing? good thing that'll never happen.

I might not have a problem with the Star Wars rant if it is about the current Disney sequels. Have absolutely no knowledge of GoT at all, so it'll just fly over my head.
Remember that time Catelyn Stark become a necromancer called Lady Stoneheart and went on a revenge spree? Oh yeah that's right, the show completely ignores that. There's plenty of material from the books that were removed or forgot about. If GRRM actually finished the next two books, they'll be radically different then what we've seen on the show.
Woolie has never been more wrong and so right in the podcast. He's spot on about Game of Thrones and he's dead wrong about Sam Raimi Spider-Man and Shazam.
The ending of Rogue One’s fine with the breathing shit because Vader does that all the time. It’s an intimidation tactic. Hell he does it in Empire multiple times.

But seriously guys, if you havent checked out MauLers channel do it, his tangents are amazing, you can throw it on in the background while you're doing whatever, I listen to him when I'm working all the time
How people can enjoy him is beyond me. He's just the long version of cinemasins. Complaining for the sake of complaining (unless it's something he likes), disregarding anything regarding tone or theming, and then getting pissy when people disagree with him. He's everything I hate about film criticism. Pretentious and boring.
@@blitzkriegdragon013 Only that he Co stanzly criticizes cinemasins for being shallow and surface level. Methinks he criticized a thing or a creator you liked and ever since then you're on the bias train. @@Crade1 No, I agree with Mauler on certain things he likes and dislikes. I also don't care if he critiques things I like. If that were the case then I'd hate these guys. My problem with Mauler is that he only critiques films on a technical level. That's the most boring fucking form of film critiques. It says nothing about theming, story, or anything that makes film an art form. It judges film like it's a machine. No room for interesting analysis; just "look at this plot hole. What a dumb movie." I like hbomberguy because he has fun videos on subjects I like. His transformers review was one of the most relatable reviews I ever watched. I enjoy Jack Saint because he analyzes films from various Marxist, Feminist, and racial perspectives. What I like the most about both of them is that they don't take themselves too seriously. They're very tongue and cheek, and there is an acknowledgement that there is more than one way to look at a film. They know how to analyze something critically while not being up their own ass about it. That's why I hate Mauler. He's so far up his own ass, he creates his own echo chamber. No room for different analysis or opinions. Just "plot hole here make bad movie". Unless of course it's a movie he likes.
In retrospect, whoever chimed in and decided Hawkeye should live instead of Black Widow probably fucked up her movie and now we have the weird universe where Clint went rogue, started murdering people in droves and doesn't seem to be facing any consequences.

@@blitzkriegdragon013 Its very telling that you are unable to actually bring forth these points yourself, instead of having to direct people to some other persons video. I am surprised people can stand to watch 5 minutes of hbombercucks content. If you think MauLer is being pretentious, how can you even stomach one second of bombers content? Dude is the epitome of pretentious, he even admits so in one of his videos, when he says he talks in a specific way to give his points more weight. You said somewhere else bomber guy seems more sincere, when reality proves literally the opposite. MauLer talks the same way in his videos as he does in his streams, and he makes actual points, while bomberman has to hide behind weasel words and rhetoric and talk in an exaggerated manner so he gets taken seriously. Yet people like you exist.. So hey I guess there are some things we just will never understand.
@@Crade1 I pointed at another video because he went into a deeper analysis then I ever could through a fucking comment. Yeah Bomber speaks differently. I also speak differently when I write an essay vs when I talk to my friends. It's not uncommon. Did you watch his Transformers review? That was the most sincere critique of a film I've watched in awhile. It was an interesting take on the film, that many other youtubers never had. Talking about how Unicron is a symbol of cosmic horror that becomes more relatable as one gets older. Here is the final fucking point, Bomber guy admits that he isn't the only voice. That there is room for dissent and disagreement. That it's okay to have a different opinion because there's more than one way to look at a film. Mauler doesn't. Mauler reviews film from the most perspective, and believes that's the only "real" way to reviews movies and TV. I'm sorry but there is nothing more pretentious than that. If you like Mauler, like him. I just find him boring, monotonous, and prone to repeating points and contradicting himself in the same fucking video.
@@Wolf_ManJack Honestly, I don't like Mauler because he is pretentious and repetitive and Saint made a video that discussed all my criticisms with him. If what you say is true, then they're both assholes. But at least Jack makes better videos.

I'm 100% with Pat on being happy, and feeling justified in not giving in to the peer pressure watching Game of Thrones. Same goes for The Walking Dead and Attack on Titan, for me personally.
Despite the ending. Those shows gave many years of good entertainment. You knew with the walking dead were the show was going when they fired a certain somebody. Out of nowhere. For what seems like a personal thing.
Mauler is the definition of thorough analysis. Very little escapes his cynical gaze. If he says there’s a problem, he’ll prove it in 30 minutes. He is the bane of the general audience. Watch a video of his and you’ll see.
He pretty much only examines things at a surface level and his style is obnoxious. You don't have to take the entire story step by step for an analysis, and stopping things every sentence to give your input only serves to diverse yourself from any tone or context.
My favorite thing about Mauler's rebuttal is how much stuff HE gets wrong. Not that Bomberguy's rebuttal wasn't ass, I LOVE DS2 and still hated his defense of it, but you can only sit through so many hours of a guy being wrong before it starts to irk you, even if he is doing a good (and ridiculously thorough) job on the whole.
Unrelated but I really like Woolie and Pat's color contrast between eachother. It's like the Trailer Park Boys version of those two human magicians in the Castlevania anime. The black mass and the pale abomination.
Been losing writing steam since season 5, but at least the big fight episodes of season 5, 6, and 7 for the most part haven't been disappointing garbage to watch. The Long Night makes season 8 "0 for 1" in big fight episodes.
I guess things were a little rocky back in 5 but it has really great parts, and then I really enjoyed 6 and wow they really brought it with 7, it was above and beyond everything that had come before! Now 8s super weird and its remixing all the old elements and I cant wait to see what happens next! Oh wait this isnt Jojo? I was talking about Jojo
It's almost like the success from the first seasons where they were still shy from diverging from the source material, specially when the red wedding aired, went over D&Ds heads so they felt like they could take more and more creative liberties with the story.
It doesn't shit itself,it just doesn't have heart anymore and turns into a skit comedy. I stopped watching one Michael left and just watched it recently and it didn't affect me as much anymore
I mean, as long as D&D were adapting a book(series) it was all very fine... They have nothing but bullet points to go on, so they have to write it all themselves, obviously they're not as good at that. Ever since season 5 or whenever JS died, it went downhill as far as writing goes! I still watch it, because said bullet points are still pretty much what they were supposed to be, but the writing is just....
only Game of Thrones could manage to still be decent even when the writing took such a steep dive. no matter how hard they try to ruin the characters and the setting, everything about the show is just too strong for it to ever be an actually terrible show. but compared to seasons 1 3 and 4 its literal dogshit
For extra context on how hard this show is shitting the bed, I highly recommend Shadiversity's video about the battle strategy in episode 803. People complained about them not killing enough important characters in that episode, but if they used any decent strategy at all, they probably would have ended up with way less casualties than they did.
I have a somewhat similar thing with Pat in terms of waiting until a series is done, but with modern anime. It's not that I've personally had a bad experience but my youtube recommendations are always filled with people talking about the latest season of anime only to then be replaced with "WHAT WENT WRONG!" Just doesn't seem worth taking the plunge especially when I have a huge backlog of older stuff to get to anyways.
Sopranos is truly a lot more than it looks like at first. Its not just yeeeaah mafia guys doing bad shit. I recently finished watching it( yeah I'm really late to the party) and it was great. I checked out after 4. I think this series is overrated but the acting was superb. But I am so enjoying the misery people are feeling right now. Dany is a garbage character from season 1 and this ending is so satisfying to my inner Pinhead.
I didn't see coming but season 4 is where I fell off
Yeah I don’t think anybody saw this coming, if you say you did I’d call you a liar unless you just meant in a broad “it’s gonna suck” kind of statement
Wait, is there a literal coffee cup in the scene? That's _hilarious._

Yep, an actual, honest to god Starbucks cup, plastic lid and all.
One continuity error and people's unrealistic expectations of season 8 episode 3 and suddenly "game of thrones is garbage now" the show is amazingly directed and shot and the writing is above alot of good shows, yes it has dumb shit like some of season 7 but I swear woolie is overreacting

I was waiting for this segment to be clipped just so I could say how goddamn right you are Woolie.
Or they could animate it. Chances are the VA’s wouldn’t be as good maybe, but you have more potential to get someone whose voice fits.
He'll never end the series. Georgie boy wrote himself into a hole where his series has no clear ending. Like what plot line do you end on? Jon/winter? The iron throne? Danny? He expanded it way too far narratively, and would have to pull the biggest ass pull in history to close all plot lines.
Yeet Wizard pretty sure it’ll be no one and the structure of Westeros’ feudal system will collapse into a new world of sorts.
@@JapanFreak2595
The way theyll probably tie up jon and the iron throne in the show is having him take it and blow it up, making it all individual kingdoms again. Problem is danny and essos still exists
Not necessarily, given enough time we could get a Star Trek TNG equivalent

The problem with the casual vs hardcore argument is twofold
One: GoT is like lost in that in encouraged speculation as to it's plot direction then demands you turn your brain off and ride the emotional high when it breaks the plot or dips in quality to get us there.
Crazy Talk spotted, "Nothing'll top Lost!"
At this point, I'm rooting for Game of Thrones to be as *terrible* as it can possibly be.
If I can't get a good ending, give me the fucking worst.
I'm hoping for a boom mic in the shot.
Also, last jedi is a FANTASTIC star wars movie, I dont know why u all be like this.
What you said around 53:35 reminded me of a conversation i had with my sister about Mario Kart 64, where the final verdict was "that game was not actually all that good, but I love it to hell anyway" and there is nothing wrong with that at all.

MauLer did a very good episode breakdown of it.
Basically it completely invalidates the entire premise of the show and the entire character arc of Jon Snow is also ruined as well. They also sacrificed all logic in exchange for cool visuals that you can barely see because 95% of the entire episode is dark.
Seconded, mauler is great. Even if his content is absurdly long.
I only watched the show through clips on TH-cam and was still mad. Mostly the way NK went out and took any lore he had left with him.

What different source material would it be based on? The finished series? Oh sweet, summer child...
Remember that time Catelyn Stark become a necromancer called Lady Stoneheart and went on a revenge spree? Oh yeah that's right, the show completely ignores that.
@@blitzkriegdragon013
Only that he Co stanzly criticizes cinemasins for being shallow and surface level.
Methinks he criticized a thing or a creator you liked and ever since then you're on the bias train.
Like I said before, somewhere else, I don't understand how anyone could enjoy bomber guy or Jack fucking Saint either.
What a dumb movie."
I like hbomberguy because he has fun videos on subjects I like.
46:35 GREY LIFE DMG is fucking brilliant lol
In retrospect, whoever chimed in and decided Hawkeye should live instead of Black Widow probably fucked up her movie and now we have the weird universe where Clint went rogue, started murdering people in droves and doesn't seem to be facing any consequences.

Mauler is one of the most pretentious TH-camr's out there and I'm surprised anybody can listen to him for more than 5 minutes. JackSaint has a great video about him and why he's so fucking boring and WRONG when it comes to film critique in general. I really wish people would stop promoting him. He's everything wrong with film criticism. On the level of cinemasins.
@@blitzkriegdragon013
Its very telling that you are unable to actually bring forth these points yourself, instead of having to direct people to some other persons video.

It's almost like the success from the first seasons where they were still shy from diverging from the source material, specially when the red wedding aired, went over D&Ds heads so they felt like they could take more and more creative liberties with the story.
This is what happened to me with “The Office” not 1 season after Michael Scott leaves and it just shits itself

Love these discussions.
That season is exactly why i stopped. Glad i did.
They had SEASONS of material they cut out (Dorne, Iron Islands, Griff, Lady Stoneheart). They were just lazy and now they pay for it.
Honestly, this season has made me do the unthinkable: to make me think S8 is an OVA of the series.
Funny part and woolie talk about endgame with so much praise, yet behind the scenes reveal that they actually planned less then game of thrones.
"RISE...fuckin'...Woolie, RISE"
For extra context on how hard this show is shitting the bed, I highly recommend Shadiversity's video about the battle strategy in episode 803. People complained about them not killing enough important characters in that episode, but if they used any decent strategy at all, they probably would have ended up with way less casualties than they did.

I have a somewhat similar thing with Pat in terms of waiting until a series is done, but with modern anime. It's not that I've personally had a bad experience but my youtube recommendations are always filled with people talking about the latest season of anime only to then be replaced with "WHAT WENT WRONG!"
