Madame Web feels like a movie where the producers all thought that if you plug some standard(?) elements into a script, film it and distribute it, money will just magically roll into your bank account, all inexplicably completely unaware that movies are meant to be watched and enjoyed by human beings. It's like the final boss of this particular kind of filmmaking. To call it a bad movie is just straight up incorrect because that would imply that it's even a real movie.
It's what happens when you reduce people and opinions to numbers and statistics. Just because there's a correlation it doesn't mean it's correct
they probably asked the SONY AI MOVIE ALGORITHM what would make them a bunch of money and it said "Madame Web" film and then laid it out and said they'll earn 4 billion dollars. and then sony just went ahead with it

I laughed almost in exact unison with Woolie when Pat quoted that fucking Responsibility & Power line.
Either they HEAVILY rewrote the movie and had to ADR all the villains dialogue, or they gave him a really dumb voice and decided last minute they had to redub it, either way it's really noticable. I thought it was just when he had his mask on but there are scenes where he's maskless and you can see his mouth isn't moving right

There are ways to make "chosen one" plots compelling. But it's a lot harder to write and some people are put off from the idea by concept alone.

I don't understand why the villain with mystical spider powers needs technology to find these girls. You'd think he'd be led to them by his spider sense or something. He'd had been a lot more intimidating if we didn't know who he was, why he's after these girls and how he keeps finding them.
Remember this quaint little film called The Terminator? Why was that character scary? At first he was mysterious and seemingly unstoppable. Later we know exactly how unstoppable he is. This is one of the only instances of more information making a villain more scary

Woolie is way off base whith his Gotham summary. Joker is the only big thing they had to dance around. That and I think calling Bruce Batman in the finale. Other than that they were VERY explicit about who the characters were and there importance to the Batman mythos. Heck Bruce Wayne was an major character for the entire show.
Madame Web was written like a two-part series premiere for a show that will never happen.

I watched it to see for myself and Pat might have been underselling how awful the dubbing on the villain was. I think Neil Breen might actually have sounded more natural than this guy. It sounds like they were cutting between different takes on every other word like OG Resident Evil.
Also the flashforward scenes look terrible. Something about the filters they use and the costume materials makes it look like a low budget 90s show.

God I think the most confusing and frustrating thing is that you can do something interesting with characters who aren't Peter Parker, but they never try with these movies and are somehow getting worse. Why even bother hiring four actors to play superheroes, if they only appear for 4 minutes? At least Morbius was a vampire and fought some people in it.

I like the idea of the movie protagonist pulling an RPG player character and just leaving their companions for a week mid plot to go do some completely unrelated side shit for no reason. I’m sure it’s not what actually happens, but that’s pretty funny.
Also I get technically they probably can’t say it here for legal reasons, but it’s kinda insane to me that aside from Spider-Verse (which was too good) no Spider-Man movie since SM3 in 2007 has said “with great power comes great responsibility.” I don’t know why they always walk around the line in such dumb ways, like it’s the line of Spider-Man.

Less rumors and more people finding out the actresses tagged Marvel Studios when the trailer launched and then a few weeks later one of the actors fired their agent and all of the stars were apathetic and very dismissive of the movie in interviews and such almost like they realized they were scammed.

I saw a clip from that baby shower scene and it was so weird. Before they did the name guessing they had to write and share favorite memories about their moms, she didn't write anything because of course her mom died after childbirth but it was played so awkward intentionally and then a balloon pops for no reason? I just watched that and was like "so her power is that she can pop balloons with her mind?"
If this movie had real balls, Mary Parker would be Black Widowing like she did in the comics.

This movie knows that you know that Peter concepted and designed the spider suit, chose those colours on his own, and then shows you the spider is those colours. Does this mean the spider changed his brain chemistry to favour the colours it uses on its body and make Peter subconsciously want to cover himself in the biological pattern of the spider that altered his DNA and used those colour evolutionarily, making it all make sense and being a stroke of genius worldbuilding as well as an incredibly subtle bit of psychological body horror not seen since The Fly where Peter is almost imperceptibly showing spiderlike instincts?

Getting mad at this movie is missing the forest for the trees and looking at it the way internet nerds tend to is a waste of time. Who cares what it does to the lore the original comics didnt give a fuck about any of that. If they wanted spiderman to have a helicopter boom he had a helicopter, if they wanted spiderman to fight a giant slug boom giant slugs now exist. Does this change the very nature of science in the continuity of the Spiderman universe?

I don’t think that necessarily true, Peter Parker is in like 4 or 5 scenes in the Across the Spider-Verse while legacy characters are the main focus.
Difference is Across the Spider-Verse was made with love and can make lesser characters interesting. Madame Webb is just Fan4stic level “We need to keep a hold of this licence, shit something out”.

Speaking of product placement: my favorite scene in Godzilla x Kong 2 is when the lady picks the girl up from school and when the camera cuts to the car they're getting in it's a bright red Volkswagen (if I remember right) perfectly framed dead center in the screen with nothing blocking the view from it. It looked like a shot ripped right out of the end of a commercial where they show the car model in different colors
