Is it possible to know which film is applied to the clay models and where to find instructions on how to apply it? I have seen that it is removed from a tub with water so I assume it is different from all the films they sell for wrapping that are fixed with a hot gun. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Hello ; Well Done to your work. I appreciate your work. Your work needs to be patience and working ambition as personal Qualification. I wish You good luck and great success at your Clay Model Work. Kindly Best Regards To You.
I am still so naive, I just don't get what clay models are for. I always think the design process works this way: You design it on the computer and then try produce these shapes and see if they really look as good in reality as they do on the computer. But I guess the process woks different somewhere clay plays a role :-D
Things are changing with 3D printing technology advancing but clay modelling is still currently the quickest, easiest and cheapest method for seeing what something will look like in real life.
It brings the consent, the endorsement of an nonsuch artistic sensuality, the wet real clay (there also exists synthetic clays), the natural light, the smell, and the silence will be always more peaceful, quite and intuitive than virtual 3D gloves or other "magic" interface with virtual model treating mathematical curves. 3D modeling + slow clay modeling is a complete and mature car design process. In brief yesterday and tomorrow merges very well. (ps: I'm aslo fond of virtual 3d modeling)
It really depends on the object you are designing. A screen is very similar in size to a handheld device. So your experience on screen is very close to real life. But for large objects like cars, your distance, viewpoint changes how you perceive details such as a curve. A smile might turn into a frown if you step a few steps to one side therefore changes the design character. So to design a car on screen is like making a clay model from 20 feet away. I hope you see what I mean. It also helps when you are working with clay, you only focus on what the form should be not having to worry about how to make that form at the same time. I can design with both tools. What I really don’t like is how in the auto industry the process of ideation and modeling, be it clay or cad is broken down inside a team. I think modeling should be done by the designers. Because it’s part of the think process. You can’t just produce a few drawings and hope others get what you wanted. But you know what I miss the most when working with clay? Undo and Save As. Lol.
