My personal experience as per my recent visit, grand bazar is the best place to exchange. They offer best rate as compared to Sultan Ahmet and Taksim area

dont bother with money changers. they take 20% to 25% profit. use your credit card or debit card instead, its way cheaper. or if u need cash gold sellers/shop owners will normally take euros or USD

HI! So glad to know that you are planning a holiday in Istanbul, you will love it! I would definitely recommend you staying in Sultanahmet area, that way, you will be in the heart of the touristic area and few meters away from the most iconic monuments. The area is perfectly connected to other areas by tram.
This is a video we made on a 3D itinerary where we have included the most iconic places to see, Istanbul is a city that needs a lot of walking and it could turn tiring, as senior citizens, you can split one of these days into 2 and make it a 4D itinerary and take your time and take it slower while visiting the monuments.
At the moment, it doesn't really matter the airport you arrive to, both are far away from the center (Taksim/Sultanahmet) but both airports offer shuttle services for a reasonable price to those areas.
If you choose Sabiha Gokcen (Asian side) you can take a shuttle service called Havabus to Taksim for less than 30 TL per passenger, and from there, you can choose a taxi to Sultanahmet, is a short distance drive.

If you choose the Istanbul New Airport, there are also shuttle services available to many points in Istanbul, the company is called Havaist and for about 30 TL per person, they take you directly to the Grand Bazaar (Beyazit Meydan) which is few minutes away by foot from Sultanahmet (is in the heart of the historic peninsula). Bus number HVİST-12

Oh no! Maybe you can just exchange a little amount for that day or use your card to pay and on Monday head to Grand Bazaar and exchange your currency 🎉
Are the ATM rates just as bad in Sultanahmet? Very informative video, by the way.
Actually withdrawing from an ATM is also a good option, all depends on your bank the rates for the liras, etc but is a good option too, or even paying directly with card specially at restaurants, etc.
Best places to exchange money 1:1 are in gold jewelerys. They most are interested in euro’s and dollars. And dont ask anything extra’s

Am really confuse how grand bazzar cheaper and its 5.94 something like that and out of the bazzar 5.75 isn't cheaper out of the bazzar
1 dollar = 5.94 lira (Inside the bazaar)
1 dollar = 5.75 lira (outside the bazaar)
if we change 100 dollar in the bazaar we get 594 lira but outside the bazaar we only get 575 lira which is less.
It’s just about maths...
