For your credit: look into a debt consolidation loan. Also call your debt collectors and accounts up and try to negotiate a lower bill. They may reduce your debt. Or reduce the interest rate, extend a payment plan, etc.

Even if they “let you go”you still walk away with the free training right(STCW,VPSD)etc if I don’t get hired with MSC I’m just gonna pay for my classes through blue water (bite the bullet) and join the union sailors of the pacific union out in California or SIU(I told my recruiter for SIU about C books never gettin jobs in SIU) and he told me “his specific station in Baltimore can get C books jobs)

Domestic stuff is hiring right now. Hop on that Great Lakes game. It’s good if you quit from MSC instead of letting them fire you. You can apply to them again when you’re in a better spot. And you’re gonna be soon cause you seem smart and determined af!

@@Tayyslyfe I caught that! That was smart. Getting fired from a fed job is a no-go cause you can get blacklisted from employment with them again. Resigning is the move
So if you have stuff in collections or repos they expect you to pay that stuff back ?
I have good credit but a mark on my record. Only one. Did they give you the impression that your issues could have been overcome if the debt was not an issue? I am about to take a school to qualify for a position in MSC but it is $6k and a month of my time. I don't want to waste my time if my single issue is going to trip me up. QMED Engineer Oiler.

Awww nooo! I’m so sorry to hear that! You know everyone was telling me.. they not checking your credit , they just going to see if you bankrupt, or know you paying it. I have a back ground of suspended license.. that’s the only thing on my end. But I really hope they hear me out on it. But as fair as the credit thing goes… are they wanting you to pay everything all at once? Is making payments towards it good enough cause she told you that wasn’t good enough what exactly are they looking for no debit ? Also are they looking for you to pay closed credit off as well? And what are your next steps for yourself?
Word of advice stop listening to other people if you’re not sure simply ask them at NEO and they will help you. Far as what they are looking for I can’t speak on that only what I experienced. So based off that I say pay everything off or put them on payment plans.

What is considered debt
U got 4 months of sea time out of Msc.. u lucky … if it’s wasn’t for that you would be like all the others ppl try to find entry level jobs
Where any of your debts in collections? I’m like $40k in debt ($25k auto loan, and the rest on credit cards) and lowkey scared about NEO
My advice is taking care of your debt before even applying
@@Tayyslyfe I’m heading to NEO soon. It’s the risk I’m taking I guess. I can’t see myself paying off my debt more quickly than with a maritime job. Not paying rent would give me a lot of extra money every month to pay shit off
Nah you don’t need to pay it off just get everything in good standing like a payment plan and make sure you get proof of your payment plan

I honestly only tell ppl what I been thru I don’t want to give out false information but my advice is to be upfront with everything on your initial app and you have to undergo a background check so I wouldn’t do that with anything expired
So what did you end up doing ? How did you get in with MSC ? I am currently going through the same thing but they didn’t tell me exactly what it was ?

Is there a specific amount of debt that is allowed?
Were you completely honest about your debt?
Finally, Are they looking at Federal debt ( hospital bills, student loans, unpaid bankruptcy, etc) Or is it All debts in general?

Unpaid debts are frowned upon. Being in so much debt that you can't get out of the hole would be a problem. They are worried you would be able to be compromised.
