the most fun shots in golf are the crazy ones where you have to wing it and pull something out of the bag, and links courses are full of shots like this

Best golf experience I ever had was a links course. Played Chamber Bay. Even for being in the U.S. and the Pacific Northwest it was cool, dry, baked out, and windy. The view of water surrounding the course was astounding. Definitely worth the $190 to play. Walking only.

Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club in Michigan has just opened a new South Course which I believe is the closest to links golf I have ever experienced. There are no trees, no water, huge undulating square greens, and strip bunkers strategically placed to catch a drive or second shot. I was told to run the ball up onto the greens and not try to land a traditional high shot because the greens are so hard and fast. Also, when the wind blows, this place could be a monster test of the exact type of thinking you are describing. Come to Michigan and give it a try.

My home course in Ontario was designed by Martin Hawtree to be as linksy as an inland course can get... Dominant wind off Lake Erie and nothing but farmland in the way to stop it... Magical place.

I played a comp at Princes golf course in Kent few years back. It was a Monday in December. Full sunshine and not a breath of wind. One of my favorite memories of playing golf ever. Links golf is just pure.

Just the sheer beauty when out there, when in the RAF I played Dunstanborough Castle links numerous times when stationed in the area on the Northumberland coast, just stunning...played it in all kinds of weather, one real funny moment playing into the gale I smashed my drive away and it sail out into the yonder and then we watch it come sailing back towards us and land in the c**p about 20 yards in front we cried laughing and headed for the clubhouse.....never did find the ball..😂

Andrew J Gordon at North Berwick a couple of years ago I was 120 to the flag into a god knows how many club wind. I smashed a lovely 6 iron and me and my playing partner watched it sail up and up and then come back towards us. It can only have gone about 50yds forward. I feel your pain. We did have a good laugh about it though.

Love it hitting the ball on a fairway that looks like a BMX track in places and aiming 50 yards off line and watch the wind blowing it back great lol

Links courses combine beauty and imagination. Always a treat to play and rarely the same twice as the weather drives shot selection.

youthful memories, bad bounces, impossible putts, chest high rough. And wind! With mates, laughs, disbelief when one of us sank a putt and pain shared. Golf as its meant to be.

I love links golf. I joined Fleetwood three years ago now and wouldn’t want to be a member anywhere else. Every time I play around it’s always a different test. The changing of the tides means the wind can change 2-3 times in the round.

Love it! Being from Canada we have a few “links” style courses in P.E.I and Nova Scotia on the Atlantic. Played Crowbush Cove in P.E.I. this past summer, thoroughly enjoyed it. The wind was up for the back 9 around 25km/h gusting to 35, beat me up pretty good! Slept like a baby that night. I have yet to play in the U.K., but it’s on my bucket list.

Played my first round of golf on a links in 30 years this year (Waipu - NZ). Didn't feel I played particularly well but matched my handicap!. What struck me was some of the lies you get on the fairway (bare), and the greens were so pure, fast and contoured. And the views- Wow. Took my breath away. I'm a good putter, and reading the greens correctly is a must.

From the terrain, to the different types of shots that are required, to the VIEWS, to the people, just amazing. I would recommend a visit to anywhere in the UK if you're a golfer to experience what Mark and the boys are trying to convey in this video, it will change your (golfing) life.

It's all about the views, stunning ocean views with the greenery of the course as a back drop.

There's the brutality of the weather one day and totally different the next. It's just the best

Out in Pennsylvania we play woods golf. An entire course cut out of the woods. Every hole has trees on the left and right.
Local course near me they throw down a lumber mill, started cutting out fairways, and used all the trees they cut to build the clubhouse.

1,2,3,4 club winds, it changes with the tide as well
Bounces that can kil you or fall in love with

Fast greens, soft sand, deep bunkers, burnt patches

I played Trevose and St Enodoc in August on a holiday with my spouse. What a treat. I had watched your vlogs in advance so I felt I had a sense of the courses. But they were more undulating in person and more stunning. I have re-watched the same vlogs and enjoyed them more after having played the courses.
Also played St. Mellion and loved it but a much more North American feel although not a typical Nicklaus design. The three of you should be hired by the Devon and Cornwall tourist departments for all you do to promote the area. We had a very enjoyable time- also played Thurlstone on a windy day-that was challenging! Thanks.

I grew up playing links courses. Never a flat lie, crazy bounces and really makes you think about how to play chip and run - into the wind from 60 yards a 5i bump and run (would now use my hybrid) is a real shot

In Australia, links courses are as much a grind as in the UK and Ireland, but at the other end of the scale. Typically it's baking hot, with heat radiated back up at you from scorching sand, no trees for shade and drinking litres of water to try to stay hydrated. The first time I played a links course here (Magenta Shores) I was broken by the 13th hole. Subsequent times around it I've known what to expect and how to play it and had much more enjoyable experiences, very much like my experiences playing the links courses in Scotland and Ireland.

100% agree on the US links "style" courses. In and around Chicago there are amazing links "style" courses with mega deep rough, hilly lies, big greens, etc but it's super manicured and always watered so no never gets too fast, etc. My golf dream is to get over to Britain, Ireland and Scotland to play. Dreamy. Thank you for a great vlog, bruh.

Links golf to me is summer holidays in North Berwick with chirruping birdsong on hard baked fairways and having to run the ball up onto greens, really learning to play when I was a member at Saunton, and ever changing conditions when I’m at home with just me and the dog out on StAndrews links.

Just to be honest, I have never played true links course since I am in the US. I have played a course by Jack Nicklaus called Ocean Course at Hammock Beach. I would say that would be the closest. 7 holes of the course follow the ocean and is completely exposed. It is just a stunning course and you are exhausted by the time you are done; in the same breath, smiling from ear to ear.

A lot of par-4s look quite innocuous off the tee, however, you have to be in the right place. Played 3 rounds at RND last year and that was tough. Also 36 holes around Weston-S-Mare was tough. A lot of little streams and hazards. Played Trevose several years ago. Tough track.

Beatiful course. played it last week as the only links course i play when I go to Cornwall . Day one played o.k. but second day it destroyed me and played like a beginner. If you are a competent player playing inland golf dont be fooled!!!. Links is a different kind of golf and it will swallow you up and spit you out . No 2 days are the same. Despite being left inflated and shattered I Love the course the club the scenery by the Atlantic ocean. Give it a go

Playing mostly parkland here in the States, when i do get to play a links course it is remembered. Links to me is a lack of trees that can block the wind, especially next to the ocean. Links requires more strategy than a target golf parkland course. You have to think your way around a links course. Pot bunkers, putting from off the green, blind shots, and generally more intense thinking is Links to me. Got the amazing chance to play 5 links courses in 5 days in Ireland back in 2015 and i wish i had the chance to do practice rounds. No way are you going out cold and setting a personal scoring record. I am very proud of an 87 at Royal Portrush, 78 at Ardglass, and an 83 at Royal County Down in that week. But i was off the white tees and not the Championship tees. Otherwise I'd be closer to the 100s

Two of my favorite courses I've played are those US "links-style" courses. While they have similar design and features to the UK links courses, I'd imagine they can't come close to replicating the full experience. The winds aren't the same, the ocean air impacting your ball flight, and the sometimes-brutal terrain making every shot a challenge.
One day I'll get to experience it for myself. For now, I'll settle for our substitutes. Still some incredibly entertaining tracks.

I've got the 9 iron out on the chipping green in preparation, (my off-green putting isn't up to much) and I'm hitting half my range balls from funky lies around the bunker. Being that it is one of our top courses downunder I'm struggling with all the golf emotions- excitement, hope, a sense of impending doom...

Would you consider "Mountain Golf" a type of course? very Hilly, steep drop offs from fairway, raised greens with big drops behind. Raised or lower tee boxes etc. Lots of what I'd consider "Mountain Golf" here where i am in New England, very hard, very wooded. Miss a fairway and or a green long and you're taking a drop.

So do you have to have the seaside for a course to be considered a links course? I always considered it a course that was landscaped as little as possible (i.e. no bulldozing or artificial contours), making you use your noggin and the natural lay of the land to play the holes.

Very limited experience, but history, beauty and dealing with extreme conditions all describe how I would define "Links Golf," oh, and if they serve streaky bacon it is not links! :)

Links golf; you have to be creative, the weather elements change the course daily, a true golf challenge some may say.

Links golf means howling wind off the right a lot and when added to a slice means head offs...

Does it make any sense to say that on a links you can see many different groups playing many different holes at most given times?

Fully agree with the video, its all about the stunning beauty of the Links and more often than not you get beaten by the elements but still love it #bestkindofgolfintheuk

I'm a member at Perranporth. You can add 10mph to the forecasted wind speed every time. If you haven't played there before i recommend a course planner, quite a few blind shots. But it is a stunning place. Hope you enjoy.

Links courses for me is all about beautiful scenery, crazy greens and the odd bunker in the middle of a Green. Check out the European club in county Wicklow, stunning!! 🙂

LOL! Close the aperture on your camera if you can! You point to the course, which is a blur when you're in focus.
