    I carried this knife in Afghanistan and it was awesome never had a problem with the action even after all the sand and stuff got in it just have to do with your knife what you do with your weapon keep it clean and maintained and it won't ever be an issue

      Same here, this knife here was a great tactical knife, I own several Benchmade knives and a few Microtech knives, and none of them never hurt my finger no matter where the activation button was, and I dont have a lot of over travel on my Infidel, he must have gotten a bad knife

    The word "tactical" gets tossed around so much by retail companies, military wannabes and people in general. Its very much a marketing term more than anything else. Just my "tactical opinion" lol

    • @cacao1312
      @cacao1312 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah it’s really annoying makes me even more suspicious of a products quality when they say it’s “tactical” 😂

    • @JamesBond-lj6ms
      @JamesBond-lj6ms 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      scott taylor yeah tactical is near if it truly is tactical, but yeah. It just becomes a dick measuring contest between people wanting to see who is the most “tactical”

    • @austinmccuistion1784
      @austinmccuistion1784 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think "tatical" is just a nice way to say you can stab someone reliably if you need to.

    • @justindiehl7272
      @justindiehl7272 5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I agree with tossing around the word “tactical”...but in this case it actually fits perfectly with this knife. The reason being because the definition of the word Tactical is “Relating to or constituting actions carefully planned to gain a specific military end.” The Benchmade Infidel is actually used by US military, it is used by the US military because of its reliability but more importantly for its “quick draw” ability. The fact that the infidel can be retracted to be so small, is extremely light and the blade can be deployed extremely easily and rapidly gives a military or “tactical” advantage over other knives designed for the same purpose as a double edged dagger style blade. In conclusion as I said I 100% agree that the term tactical gets tossed around as a marketing gimmick but in this case by definition this knife actually falls under the true “tactical” definition especially given that it is actually used by Military personnel.

    This was a great discussion... shows how much substance can be contained in a fixed camera, with no bullshit and just sensible talk. I had an OTF... but recently was offered an opportunity to trade a firearm for an Infidel OTF. So, I thought perhaps maybe the quality would somewhat mitigate the inherent weakness of such a design. But I know now it was wishful thinking, and really it confirms this kind of knife will not be much use to me, regardless of quality. Very useful, thank you.

    Excellent review🤙!
    A lil late to this party, though as former federal LE, where I spent two+ years in an undercover capacity, and having actually had three knife/Punch Dagger encounters in those 2+ years, I agree 💯 with the fixed blade vs. folder/automatic/"Wave" as a self defense knife!!
    I carried/carry 6 fixed blades/Punch Daggers on my person for self defense, which started from my days in undercover. The incredible thing is that as a Krav Maga and Senior CQB Instructor, I felt that the placement of those six blades would prepare me for ANY potential hand-to-hand altercation.
    I was wrong🤷🏻‍♂️!!
    The fact is that in 2 of those 3 encounters, had luck, and the fact that I was considerably bigger than my second adversary, I probably would not be here as I had no initial access to ANY of my six blades. Murphy's Law in Caps, lol.
    That said, in actual balloon draw/stab drills, the slowest fixed blade time will be faster than the fastest folder/auto/"Wave" draw/stab. I even laid a Benjamin💵 on the table, to be matched by the student, and it was theirs if their Microtech, Benchmade, Gerber(Yah, the 06 OTS is a choice for quite a few LE/Military tacticals), etc. beat the slowest time. That NEVER happened!!
    Bear in mind that these were seasoned LE officers(Local, state & Fed), though very very few had ever deployed their knives in a tactical self defense altercation.
    You are one of the few YTubers who states what is an immutable Law of tactical blades....
    A fixed blade/Punch Dagger is far superior to the "best" folder/Auto/"Wave" as a self defense knife.
    Continued Success Brotha👊

      I agree. I used to carry a CRKT M21. It had the flipper on it, and it was fast and intuitive for me to use. I worked construction, and while safety knives were available, I found it faster to use my pocket knife to open the bundles of tongue in groove maple we used for the floors. So I had deployed this knife literally thousands of times. But never under duress. I watched some videos on the internet of real life defensive knife uses, and it was sobering for me. It was never like in the movies. The defender never saw it coming, never had time or opportunity to do their choreographed little dance move. It was always intense, at very close range, fast and violent, and the attacker never allowed the defender an uncontested draw. Little buttons, that flick or wrist roll, the thingy with the zip tie you catch on your pocket. None of that shit is going to work. I tried. I had a friend rob me at plastic spoon point while I tried to get to my trusty CRKT. Dozens of attempts, none of them successful. Not one. The motion I thought was so fast and intuitive became impossible while 90% of the brain was dedicated to not getting stabbed. Any time I got hands on my knife, my "attacker" got a hand on my arm that made every single part of the process of drawing and deploying the knife a frustrating exercise in futility resulting inevitably in a plastic spoon breaking against my rib cage. I tried the exercise with the Benchmade auto my brother got me when I graduated boot camp. Same deal. Finding that little button, and then having enough of a grip on the knife to retain it while my friend swatted at it while not preventing the blade from deploying even if I found the button while dodging the plastic spoon coming at me like a homicidal sowing machine...not going to happen. So I grabbed a fixed blade. And that did the trick. We had to cut the exercise short because my friend suddenly found it difficult to not get cut. Much harder to contest the drawing of a fixed blade. Only gross motor coordination is required. Gorilla grip the handle and rip it out of the sheath with the largest muscle groups in the body. No twisting or flicking. No fine movements or little buttons. And once it is out, it is ready for use. The blade doesn't have to deploy, and it is already in a stabbing grip. You are suddenly on equal footing with your attacker and now they have to dedicate 90% of their brain to not getting stabbed. Not so fun now, is it? I've carried a small fixed blade ever sense.
      That being said, I think the purpose of the Benchmade OTF would be more as a backup. Like a little snub nose .38 Special in an ankle holster. It is a poor substitute for a fullsize service pistol, or a fixed blade knife, but it is better than nothing. You won't deploy it as fast as the Glock 17 in a Safariland duty rig or a small fixed blade on your belt, but as a last resort, it will do more for you than a harsh word.

I also had a took a tomahawk /spike hawk that was made for me . Plus a little tiny mini buck to open MREs etc. I retired them when i got out and have then in a display.

    • @Player_Review
      @Player_Review 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ComocosonoEWL Great point also, all depends on the environment I guess. Probably great for urban scenarios with that reliability, carry ability and fast deployment.

    • @vik12D
      @vik12D 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +ComocosonoEWL If an "Operator" needs that knife, its a bad day. Auto knives serve more of a purpose for cutting risers in the event your canopy is caught in a tree, you're being pulled across the drop zone, and can't reach your disconnect, etc.
      It may serve as a last ditch effort when that is all you have left, but in general the SF community prefers fixed blades for tools.
      Also, this auto works fine in the desert, just don't lube the internals.

    • @vik12D
      @vik12D 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +ComocosonoEWL Weird, I saw "moon dust" in Iraq, and an issue when it rained, not so much in Afghanistan. Most of what I saw there is comparable to Arizona. With that said, even in IRQ/IZ I didn't have a problem with the Infidel at all. Dry lube = no issues.

    @markw-2025 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Cutlery chops, great insight. Regarding the switch, just like a gun trigger, you should not touch the switch unless you are going to actuate the blade. Therefore, to bypass the long travel in this knife, give it some force and it will quickly open every time very quickly. No need to lament about long travel by creeping the switch along. Drive it with your thumb quickly and no problem. My favorite OTF is the Microtech Navy Scarab! It has two springs, and it is the strongest OTF out there. Hard to find though, limited production, I do not see any manufactured for about three years now. But check it out! Once again, thank you for your review. Oh, I have the new Infidel 10 year anniversary with S30V steel, I think better knife. Say, short of taking it apart, where would you lube this knife? I look forward to your response.

    The word to describe that "play" (13:39) in the button is called "creep", in the firearms world. It refers to, the amount that the trigger and sear move, before the sear releases the hammer. In firearms, you want zero "creep" in the trigger, but on the OTF auto's, you need to have a little, or they won't function safely. By the way "take-up" (14:24), is not the same as "creep", "take-up", is the amount of movement in the trigger, before it comes into contact with the sear. Usually, two stage military triggers will have a good amount of "take-up", but very little "creep". Good 1911 pistols will have a very small amount of "take-up", and virtually zero "creep".

As to your point as not being a tactical knife while in the jungle, sand box, I completely agree. But in club, a home, at the work place, in some situations, it has served me well.

    Beginning September 1, 2017 it will be legal to carry this in Texas. Auto-open has been legal here since 2013 but now we will be able to carry a double-edged blade (read dagger).

    hey jeff, question for you, i've been out of touch with you for about a year and a half now but i wanted to know your opinions on "combative edge"and if you've reviewed/used any of their blades? i own a salus and karambite myself. just curious to your opinions

    Haha, I was about to suggest the word "travel" and then you said it. It's commonly used when talking about the analog sticks on video game controllers.

  • @briancook8673
    @briancook8673 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The word you were looking for on the button is "Travel". there is too much travel in the button to make the knife work. I had mine in my pocket and a dime actually got in the blade opening, had to take it apart to get the dime out and reset the mechanism.

    I carry an infidel every day and love it (I live in Oregon where its legal). I lost it on easter and am going to buy another today. It isn't as useful as allot of folders but is kind of a second kind of cool thing for me. Thanks for the great review.

    Well, I'm in the army and I can tell you that unless your an officer or an MP, you ain't gonna have an M9. And they Issue you a knife, a fixed blade bayonet. That would be your primary blade, but for smaller tasks? I wouldn't mind an infidel or another otf. Because that offers me entertainment. Look, as a backup blade, I would love to have and infidel on me in a war zone. Is it the best option? No but it would be my third option and it could get the job done. That's my views on the infidel. I like it.

    Just curious, have you had much tactical experience to judge on"Tactical use" not trying to be rude, just wondering as it is a perfect stabbing blade being D2 and a dagger style.

  • @kylelopez2698
    @kylelopez2698 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The blade isn't going off of its track when you open it into something, it's a safety feature built into the knife so you don't stab yourself.

    So if you wouldn't classify it as a tactical knife and you would only call it a light EDC, what would you say is going for it for me to buy it? If it doesn't fit it's intended purpose and only acts as a light EDC, it just sounds too limited for a $400 price tag.

      @BrandonColonel 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler Clark I have other knives in the "cool" category that are either much cheaper, or even in about the same price range that are actually functional as well. Unless it's a historic piece, there is no way I'm paying $400 for a knife that can't even function in it's intended purpose. If people can prove that it will function as a tactical knife, as is intended, then I might try to get it one day. Until then, I'll stick with my ZT knives. Those things are proven tacticals.

    Navy Customs confiscated all our spring operated knives coming off a deployment in 2009. A Master Sergeant of ours saw the Navy Customs guys smiling about taking our shit. He got 5 of us and we went through and broke every single one of those knives. I personally broke probably 5 grand worth of benchmades. We smashed them to pieces. You should have seen their faces and mood change after they figured our what we were doing.

    im not really a big fan of the creep on the trigger engagement, but it is really positive when it comes out. its the only otf knife that i own. i really like it! for every day carry i don't have a problem carrying it. its much like a gun, maintenance and knowing what to look for are a must with anything. train deployment of the weapon and train for its failures just like you would anything els. as far as it being a niche or what ever… thats every otf knife. for person use edc its a great knife

    Hey Jeff, I was recently on dhgate.com and I typed in benchmade. I was looking through the knives when one caught my eye. It was a fake bench made infidel selling for 50 dollars, but that's not that caught my eye. It was the picture, and it looked like you holding the infidel in your review, so I came back to this video, and it was definitely a picture off this video. I recognized the table.
