The past 70 years has been the era of “Pax Americana,” a period of relative stability thanks to the influence and ballast provided by the United States. But with Russian expansion and a rising China, how long can it last? www.GreatDecisions.org

An excellent kickoff topic. I anticipate a very lively discussion. I am a baby boomer, born in 1942, so I have lived through Pax Americana. There have been a dearth of great decisions made in those 70 years, and I am feeling the frustration of the changes we are seeing in today's world. So, this discussion topic is a great way to initiate a personal investigation into how our foreign policy decisions effect the world.

Russia’s miserable invasion of Ukraine shows that there is still no one who could possibly approach the United States. The US position of full spectrum dominance is as strong as ever. Given it’s polarized political system, America truly is its own worst enemy.

I am German. Pax Amercana is not dead. But it's time for review on strategy, take lessons from other nations history books. American way of life is "sexy", attractive, but not for all. Respect for old generation only within family is the backbone in many countries, countries were U.S. was knocked out, like Vietnam, Afghanistan. Longterm win-win deals were pushed away from "making money", "time is money" tactics and hegemony vanity. I think eight years maximum presidecy is not enough to build solid foreign partnerships, fundamental right of Freedom was dead or uncredible after 9/11. American power can make it and overcome economic and military force down with smart solutions. After cold war it would have been time to gear down. Recognize things that have gone bad or wrong. ( Take my advice, I don't use it anyway)
