Here is Nils video: th-cam.com/video/MRF_G6t9kRA/w-d-xo.html If you like this one we might just do a MIG video as well! Thanks Nils! and yes we were having too much fun to notice the camera was out of focus for part of it!
I’m curious about these types of collaborations. Do you both live in the same area so that it wasn’t terribly difficult to be physically in the same place?
6:24 In the 70’s auto darkening, adjustable lenses weren’t a thing, we had swappable lenses and you started in the dark (in old videos, you’ll see a welder position his body, then nod his head to drop the helmet). Tech has made welding so much more approachable.
Yea, pipe line welder still use fixed shade with their pancake helmets! Definitely adds to the skill of having to know where you are at to start the weld.
After doing my first 3 welds with my new Flux machine I watched this. It was the perfect level of info; a great, great video. Thanks so much, you guys are single handedly lifting America's (and the world's) GDP! haha.
Thank you both, I learned and laughed! I have the Chicago Electric 125 amp and I too have had it sitting for years. I really enjoyed the video and of course I subscribed. I'm 69 and have a motorcycle repair and high performance shop. I do my own boring, valve grinding and port work(SuperFlow machine). After all these years, I need to finally learn to weld. I'm a bit slow, like the old dog and new tricks. Thank you again!
I live in the tropics and wear kevlar sleeves with cotton T shirts if available, long sleeve t shirts. Sometimes I wear a leather apron too. I got more burns wit the grinder than the welder! My helmet go on 9 indoor, 10 outdoors. This video was a good refresher...
Bought that welder couple years ago and rectified it to DC, I also replaced the ground wire/clamp with 4awg welding cable and a good clamp. Also replaced the power cable with a bigger gauge cable 4" ac fan screwed to the back and it welds 100x better provided you have good house power, I actually had the old blue HF flux welder that I did the same thing to but someone stole it guess they liked what I did with it.😢
Good tips. I would call a 1/2" stickout a minimum with flux core. 1/2-3/4" for a range. The longer stickout helps to preheat the flux in the core giving a better flow. Nope, no expert here, just a tip from pro guy who taught me some basics. I bought the Titanium flux core from HF, a surprisingly good little welder. Giving a beginner the heads up on what duty cycle means might save them from burning up their first welder. Had a buddy who burned up his first one. I escaped that by reading the manual.😂
I heard you can get sunburned so the first time i started welding i had sleeves to protect my arms however i had on shorts and was welding sitting down all day . My knees were so sunburned by the end of the day . I noticed a few hours aftwr i stopped lol
Great video! I've improved a lot recently.... now that I've left stick and moved to flux core... But checking this video, nicely confirmed for me... how and why I have improved recently! Thank you for the confirmation!
I was welding this afternoon and in short sleeves. It was in the 70s and it was hot as hell in the sun. I don't think my welding jacket would do me very good unless I wanted heat stroke. I gave up and will continue late in the PM. Great video.
I always stored my auto darkening helmet in the box but one day I started welding and the build in battery was dead because it never recharged from the little solar panel on the front of the helmet. Now my helmet hangs near a window.
I got the titanium easy flux 125 welder in august. Love it. Learning to weld really well. I’ve come a long way in the last 2 months. I’m hoping to get the Chicago electric arc welder over the winter to start with some stick welding. After a year or so I’ll move into the Miller/Lincoln machines and get myself some really nice ones
Right on, thanks! Just as a suggestion YesWelder has a little 220 stick welder which is a lot better than the Chicago Electric, even more so because it's cheaper! Here is a link to the YesWelder: amzn.to/3Qq9Rji
I have been miserable at night from welding for so one time with fcaw with a HF 125 welder. That sunburn and burnt skin smell is real even with the cheesiest of welders.
The downside about the HF 90-125 welders is there AC Output Horrible Splatter ! Convert to DCEN and use a Very Good Quality Wire like Blue Demon E71T-11 will produce a Much Smoother weld and Very little Splatter E71T-11 is far Better then E71T-GS .
Sometimes when i flux weld, its not a smooth burn, but you can clearly hear it TU-TU-TU-TU its almost like its turning on and off really quickly, and i cant figure out why
I like passive helmet’s better you can see really good once you start an arc the down side is having to position yourself with the helmet up and the nodding your head forward hard
The stick out isn’t enough. You need 5/8” to close to 3/4” with fluxcore. Less than that doesn’t give anything enough time to melt properly. MiG is closer to 3/8” to 1/2”.
You only have one set of eyes so why would anybody chance it on a budget auto lens !!!those cheap ones are pretty sketchy ! I always see spots like crazy with my cheap one !!! Got a quality one & it’s like night & day no pun intended :) I suggest to not sacrifice a few dollars on yur vision which is sooo much taken for granted . Yur claim that you do not an expensive lens is pretty piss poor info !!! Sorry about being critical of yur statement but eyes are so very precious !!!!
I didn't see any welding here................just a puddle line. As a final step, should have tried welding a couple of pieces together, putting the final piece on a vise and see how strong the weld was.
@@-DIYPRO- You're welcome mate. I have had a lighter set on fire while welding (that was dangerous) and can't imagine the horror when a rattlecan like that ignites. Be safe, keep welding!!

Pin this comment to the top 😀 Eric.

Thanks to you both, from a 66-year-old Australian newbie just getting hold of a welder for the first time. Things to do 😅. Great stuff.

One of the best videos I've watched. Saw the puddle for the first time. Well done.
Great video for very first time home welders thank you so much
Thanks!
Fantastic collab. Karma truly is boomerang. And I learned a few things. Thx for making these. Eric.
Right on, thanks!

What a great teacher and student 😎 cool video, thanks for sharing this with us!
Thanks!
You're a great teacher
Appreciate it, thanks!

Good video. I imagine it's a re-learning process each time for the intermittent home welder.
Great video.....

They don’t recharge the battery. They just lessen the power being drawn when welding.
@@melgrosslol
@melgross since he's now blind, I guess he won't respond.
This is great! Lol I have the same welder and I just started to weld some dice that I got from Amazon to practice.
Something worth mentioning is having the correct polarity for the earth.

Might check out the ArcCaptain Mig200 it does MiG, stick, tig, gas MiG , Aluminum… 110-220volt either or .
Can you provide some details on the little welding circle table you have? That would be perfect for my space.
I have the same welder and it works great!!
Great video, thank you very much, note to self(nts) watched all of it, ....
Thanks for sharing!
Great tutorial
Great video. Could you talk about single pass wire and muti pass wire
I don't know why....but I like the sound of that drive roller 😂
I thought it was just me! 😂
Maybe they can add it to a sound machine! It will put you right to sleep.....or drive you nuts!
Have you ever built a motorcycle drag wheelie bar? Either way, any thoughts or tips? Thank you very much!

You can get an auto hood with a wide lense but its gonna cost a pretty penny. Minimum of 400 bucks
@@EpicAlcatraz99right my passive helmet was only like 50 bucks lol I don’t think I’d spend that much on a welding helmet but at least it’s an option
When i flux weld, the wire sometimes gets stuck in the gun, i can go hours without it and then it comes again and again and again
Also choosing a welding pattern instead of just stinger beads helps
Don't compromise on your helmet even if the cost is way more than the welder. You only have one set of eyes.
Whats really impressive is that lead isnt bird nesting. He has 2 or 3 loops in that sucker.

is it me, or dose everyone go too fast there first time? i did it, a girl that i hung out with and showed the basics too, she went fast as well.
Very true! Thanks!

#7 : distance from the part......fluxcore 3/4'' consistent ish.....lol
First rule is don’t put compressed canisters on your table , boooooom will go the can , come on safety guys.

As a final step, should have tried welding a couple of pieces together, putting the final piece on a vise and see how strong the weld was.
Wish you guys actually explained how to dial in the settings rather than just saying "yep these work much better."
Get that spraycan off your desk
