They are NOT ammo boots they are just DMS boot, Ammunition boots have as you know have leather soles with hobnail on the sole, I wore mine into the 90's bulled up with my No2 Dress uniform

Hey Devin and everyone else. I am danish citizen and i got a pair of dms civil defence boots but they look exactly like the “British” version same size 9L. Ofcourse its a british boot by manufakturing, i believe its more a coincidence about the number of holes because mine also have 6 holes. And the sole pattern is the same as the british version in this video, inside it says Mercury, i presume its the brand. I dont know if there was different brands making these boots, but i do know that the royal danish guards used to have a smooth leather version of this boot used for parade. Mine has the cf stamp 1965, and in my opinion its the best footwear i ever had. I can even wear them on a warm summerday and they feel amazing.

    Hi Devin,
Op Corporate (Falklands War, 1982) heralded the end of these hated boots.
Waterproof up to the second eyelet, troops were getting trenchfoot during that campaign. Unlike the leather soled Ammo Boots, the rubber sole retained all water in contact with it.
Marines had hiking boots of their choice but army soldiers had to use these. Some Paras wore German Para boots in the field, "de rigeur" kit back then! Argentinian boots were superior and so were procured. It's not on record how many pairs of DMS boots left Britain as 2 and 3 PARA went "Down South", how many Argentinian boots returned in their place and how many DMS entered Argentina at the end of the conflict...
The exchange of boots with Argentinian dead and POWs was mentioned in the press soon after the war and by 1983, the "Combat Boot High Leg" was already making contact with the pavements of Aldershot. There's mentioned of procured boots, too, in Ken Lukowiak's "A Soldier's Song".
Pre-enlistment, I ran in Ammo Boots (leather/studded) - "train hard, fight easy" concept for later and for conditioning (which paid off). As a recruit, I wore these with short puttees. A lot of recruits suffered impact injuries because the DMS heels had a block of wood inside the rubber, making for poor shock absorption.
My Corporal at Depot taught us technique for running ("tabbing") in these boots so as to minimise injuries and fatigue. He used to wear blackened jungle boots which seemed worse.
When we switched from DMS to "Combat Boot High Leg", you lost the ankle support that the puttees gave. I still occasionally use my pair of CBHL Mk1s. The desert high leg boots you mention are okay but the suede gives no support whatsoever. More comfortable than my CBHLs, I was at the point of boot polishing them black until I realised that they may be collectable...

You're convincing me to buy a pair of ankle boots. Kinda like you convinced me to get a pair of French Ranger boots. I found some Swiss mountain boots for a good price..

Used to wear DMS parade boots, like wearing fucking bricks with string on so uncomfy no matter the insoles i used.

I really want a pair of these, but they seem to be rarer than unicorn jizz vials now. My dad told me about how these were basically made of pressed cardboard when he was in the forces.

Heard those boots were so bad in the Falklands that the British used to steal the hobnailed Argentine ammunition boots from their POW and dead.

Devin Krueger the story is that the early rubber soles used to crack and peel during the extreme cold, very unpleasant in a humid and Arctic climate.

The story I heard was they let in water giving the sqaddies trench foot. I also know many used privately purchased boots for exercises/combat that were better suited to the terrain or personal preference (though I don't know if every regiment allowed this for non officer's) and DMSs were kept for parade use so I've never heard any stories of British troops stealing boots for use but some soldier's always collect "souvenir's".

jelkel25 heard that story from a British guy on the alternatehistory forums
Thread was titled "worst military equipment in history" I think.

@@DevinK I'm legitimately looking forward to it. I use Obeanuf's heavy duty LP for my work boots - sometimes their liquid oil. It serves me well for treating and waterproofing but I'm super interested to know the secrets of the shine/polish. Cheers.

AIR FORCE 1 well it’s pretty obvious by looking at see how dirty it is see if the paint is chipped and see if the liner is all intact and not discolored from lots of use and check that the rubber rim isn’t missing or dried and cracked other then those things it should be good to go

Worst boots ever made, issued these in mid 1970's, crap in every regard, cripple you for the first six months , soak up water like a sponge and the toecap looked like it was made of cardboard. Would fall apart very quickly if it wasn't polished or dubbed every day. Falklands war finished it off completely when they became a national scandal. I suspect it was made that way because the makers presented the lowest quote to the MOD, like most of the crap the Army of that period procured.
