Okay, thank you SO much. Im going to say something everyone else just said, but more ;) - I know a lot of people prefer dubbed but the reason I generally prefer subbed is because I like watching things in their original language - the actors convey so much more emotion, nuance, subtleties, undertones...etc, etc, even if we don't understand it, we feel and 'react' to their acting. It just feels more 'truthful'.
The voice actors who are dubbing it aren't directed by the original directors, and thus there is a slight disconnect which removes the suspension of disbelief; dubbing constantly reminds you 'this is a show'.
I just want to say THANK YOU for doing the rest of the series in the original Korean. This show has SO MANY twists and turns, and shocking moments, you'll love it, as you no doubt already gleaned. It's funny hearing your theories because of all the twists this show takes. Honestly, really, really looking forward to the next reaction!!
You know what i tell to honestly when you started watching k drama it really hard to stop or turn down hahaha
p.s. I suggest re-watching (not re-reacting) to the green light red light sequence, the girl's voice on the speaker sings the 'green light red light song' in korean and it's pretty entertaining

It sounds like the voice is not connected to the body of someone’s voice. 🤣 I thought dubbed versions were a thing of the past but it looks like Netflix is reviving them.

The acting comes through so much more with Korean audio. Even the gangster who was about to poke his nose sounded so phony with the dub....
@@arcticwolf6402 That is absolutely not true, you can concentrate as well with subtitles, you're either just lazy or your vision is cut in half (I'm Portuguese and we usually do not listen to anything with dubbed audio unless it's like Disney or something therefore there's only Brazilian Portuguese audio). The voice acting is just not it.

Kinda hope the following episodes could be reacted with Korean audio. The doll statue singing in dub “Green Light, Red Light” threw me off completely.

I’m so tired of y’all complaining about the audio. It literally does not matter. Original audio will obviously be better but if someone wants to watch it English you don’t need to comment about it. Y’all do this with every single foreign show

The Korean version much creepy though... especially the doll singing green ligh, red light.
A bit of difference you might notice from original (Korean) audio is that the game "red light, green light" is named different, where the 'catcher' has to speak a phrase (Players are allowed to move during the phrase)
This allows players to anticipate when they should stop much more clearly (because no matter how fast the phrase is spoken, it has to end before the catcher is able to 'catch' players in motion)
So the scene where the old man is practically 'posing' at the end of the phrase is kind of not possible with the rule from red light, green light version.
In actual game (according to my memory from back in the days) some kids would intentionally make some ridiculous poses at the end of the phrase to taunt the catcher.

The Korean version of the full phrase is "무궁화 꽃이 피었습니다", which translates into "The hibiscus flower has bloomed" - That particular blossom is considered familiar because it's the national flower of Korea and the origin of the game is actually from Japan.
And it's in the format of a song. In Brasil we have a similar game, wirh similar rules, and web also sing a song

@@fynchbird Actually it's quite uncertain to say that it's from Japan. Becasue so many countries has this game too (but in different phrases.) In japan they say it was origined from South America and it was spreaded to UK then came to Japan. Don't know where it was originated for sure. BC at least more than 20 countries had this game 😂

if it's a movie I really want to see I might suffer through it, if it has no eng dub, but I'm not watching a whole ass TV show in subtitles when I can watch a dub
@@aj897 Yes, if you are new to subtitles that is what happens and it was annoying at first. But now, I'm an avid anime and kdrama watcher, and I am already used to subtitles. Heck, I even watch english movies with subtitles even though I can perfectly understand what they are saying. It just feels weird watching without subtitles underneath. Am I weird?😭
I would recommend watching the show in the original language, it brings out more emotions.

Yeah, I'm Bulgarian, and yes, we did play it a lot as kids. We had a lot of different names for the game tho (and we definitely didn't call it Red Light Green Light lol)

The cast performance really shine in the original korean. The english dub makes it sound like this came out in the early 90s. Not bad..its just funny to me
I was thinking the same, the 90s dub like those Jet Li and Jackie Chan movies haha, except for the ones that they actually got Jackie to voice it or the ones he did in the US.

It could work in an anime since there are some great english dubs out there but in an actual live show/live action show, TV series, the original form is usually better since you also hear the real voices + raw emotions of the actors while acting. And the actors and actresses in Squid Game did great in portraying their characters.
Fun fact: In the beginning when the main character runs into the North Korean woman for the first time, him putting the straw back in her cup before giving it back to her wasn't actually in the script, he improved it and if you look closely you can actually see the actress laugh.
Also, this is apparently her first job as an actress, she's actually a model. The producers kinda pulled a "star wars", only 2 of the actors are well known, the rest are not

You can't possibly be serious saying that they provide the same experience.Btw there are scenarios where a viewer does not comprehend a certain important scene just because in the change of tone,language ,just the different aspect of the delivery in lines in a show. what you just stated was false and i wanted to point that out.

@@Valox the point is that there is no emotion behind the words spoken in dubbed. the words dont match the lip movement either its just weird. much better experience watching it in korean with eng subtitles
@@Valox No one thinks they're better lol, they're just suggesting to watch it in its original form for the best experience. Some people are fine with dubbed, but most people feel it really hurts the performance of the actors. And It creates a lack of emotion behind what's being said and even comes off as comedic at times.
@Bzetemre - Twitch Highlights It's definitely a bit more challenging to watch but overall it makes for a better experience for most. There's a real emotional disconnect with the English dub imo, comes off comedic.
I feel like you can't get the full impact of the show if you don't watch it with the korean audio. The story is heavily influenced by korean culture--there are things you will miss, elements of the cinematography, acting, dialogue, etc, if you don't watch with the proper audio.
But you will miss them anyway since you don’t know nothing about THEIR culture anyway.
Maybe you are borned in Korea or for some strange reason have lived in that shithole, but most people don’t know and don’t care about their culture

As you know the basic rule is you can move on green light and can't move on red light. but it's not everything.
" Moo goong hwa Ghot ee pi ut sup ni da " has 10 words. so instead of counting to 10 , We made this sentence to play. It's like you can move until the girl counting to 10.
" Moo goong hwa" is the name of Korean national flower. " Moo goong hwa Ghot ee pi ut sup ni da " means "The flowers of Korea are blooming"

I swear its one of the best shows out there right now. Honestly, Korean filmmaking is amazing in general and is done was such great passion and love for the art. Also in Korean & Japanese you know when to stop and move. The English version is much harder because "green light, red light" felt super abrupt.

Korean audio guys its 1 milion times better
Omg There's absolutely nothing wrong with the English Dub and you absolutely can still get the full experience by watching the show Dubbed. :) You can even concentrate more on what's actually going on, by not having to constantly look down to read the text.

Y'all should really consider switching to the Korean audio. The English audio is trash, and it doesn't capture the characters' emotions nearly as accurately as the Korean audio.

Although I do like the Korean dub better, I like this game in English. In the Korean, she just sings a little tune that should give away when to stop moving. But in English it seems more of a guessing game of when it'll shout Red Light

I watched it for the first time with english audio and i liked it. Second time in korean its just so good i have to watch it twice. Either way its still good except for the red light, green light game. Its great that they added english audio cause not all k movies and k dramas on netflix has that.

I always watch films and shows in their original language and just have subtitles. The subs, I feel, has better interpretation of the original language and more immersive imo. And you really appreciate the raw emotions presented by the actors. Dubs try to match the movement of the mouths as best as they can and oftentimes have some quite awkward translations and the voice acting doesn't fully match the emotions too.
Good for you. I'mma enjoy my films in dubbed because I feel equally invested in the show. To each their own!

90% of the time, people choose audio. it impacts your viewing experience leagues more if you can't hear anything or if everything is boosted or tinny or whatever
