The contract Gi-hun signed had nothing to do with the game- it was an agreement with his debtors that if he doesn’t pay them back he will give them his organs. It was referenced by the recruiter because it simply showed how desperate he was for money.
I agree with the discussion though, wouldn't that still be an illegal contract? Even if you sign an official agreement, it wouldn't be legally permissible to give up you kidney in exchange for debt.
Yes you are right ! Some people are confused about it, usually all the korean can understand it like what you explained tho… i dont know why but maybe it’s cuz of culture difference or problem of subtitles;;
I initially had the same misunderstanding, but i later put it together the recruiter was just referencing it as a "if you were desperate enough to trust them, then you can trust us too" kinda thing like you said. But yeah, even just a "if you dont pay back your debt then we can take your organs" contract wouldn't hold up in a legal court, but that wasn't the point, it holds up in the court of crooks/gangs, and that's what the debt collector guy was doing. Street thugs/gangs/crime syndicates work under their own rules/laws and it's in that world that Gi-Hun signed the organ contract.
@@VMYeahVN it was even more confusing because they never explained how the recruiter found out he signed his organs away. Leading people to assume they were working together or were the same group.
Having a gun is illegal in South Korea. So no Korean audience thought that the gun is a real one. Even the Korean police don't use guns in South Korea most of time.
They watched Train to Busan in Korean, I think live action series is undisputed that it should be watched in native language. For anime characters you can guess how the character wants to portray their emotion but for actors only they know how they want it to be. Someone on twitter showed a clip of the german dub of pulp fiction, Samuel L Jackson with a german dub just looked and sounded wrong.
The girl pulled the trigger because guns in civilian hands are almost completely unheard of in South Korea. Even getting ahold of hunting rifles is extremely hard. So most would assume any gun is a toy before they think it’s actually a gun. Also no gun safety.
as a Korean, thank you for watching this in subs. though I recommend watching with the regular English subs instead of the closed captions because the CC tends to be inaccurate with the translations
@@MoonageDaydream. yes maybe, but they said they’ve already recorded 4eps of the series. Its 4 weeks ahead because Blindwave will be releasing one ep reaction per week
They are using the regular subs based on the discussion (front mans dialogue not being subbed) The editer is using CC for the reaction. So the subs they are using are different than the ones we see in the reaction.
It always shocks me everytime I rewatch this episode and see how eager Gihun was to slap the recruiter, he completely forgot about the money he was playing for. That’s how he went through the whole series too, he never thought about the prize money, once the game was getting too heated he only cared about the other players. Such amazing writing from start to finish. I get the hype now
As someone who's really gotten into watching Korean variety shows, the games in the show are super familiar to me. For the game in this episode, it's not actually "Red Light, Green Light." The translators call it such just to make it easier for us to understand. Literally translated, the game is a Korean playground game called "The Rose of Sharon has bloomed." The seeker has to speak the phrase "Moogunghwa ggotchi peeyuhtsumneeda" ("The Rose of Sharon has bloomed") and only once they've finished speaking the phrase can they turn around. So the idea of the game is for the runners to use the time the seeker is speaking the phrase to close the gap as quickly as they can. Of course, the seeker will often slow down and speed up at random, to try and throw off the runners. Functionally, it's similar enough to Red Light, Green Light, but you could imagine being a non-Korean playing that game and getting gunned down because you expect one game and get something slightly different.
@@bebeh_gee It is more spefically a hibiscus syriacus, which is one of several plant species referred to as a "Rose of Sharon," at least in North America.
I watched it like last week because I was like "they're not gonna watch this." but look where we are now. Not mad though gives me a chance to rewatch it.
I like how Calvin had the exact same reaction as me when Gong Yoo came into frame. “I know that mouth”. My brain went to Goblin instead of Train to Busan, but that’s just me. Looking forward to all of your reactions to this wild ride.

Possessing a gun is illegal in South Korea. Seeing your reaction at the gun this way is culturally interesting. XD We don’t usually get scared or intimidated seeing guns like this as ppl all know it shouldn’t be a real one.
To make something clear, the voice wasn’t saying “Green light, red light” in Korean. That’s an English localization thing. If this was in Spanish, they would probably be saying “1, 2, 3, pescado!” (“1, 2, 3, fish”). But for American audiences, “green light, red light” is the logical localization.
Interesting. Thanks for the explanation. Question. I understand the counting. But why would you say fish or whatever? Is the answer, as long as you're counting it is UNDERSTOOD you are in "greenlight mode" but once you say fish or whatever THAT means red-light/stop?
I really like your reaction to this, you guys have way more sympathy and empathy then my dad who blames all the all the people for getting shot with no remorse, thinks this situation would be easy and not moving during this situation is easy
Well, not really a song. It's just a phrase, it's: "The Rose of Sharon has bloomed." Rose of Sharon is a flower. It's quite interesting to read the phrases said during this child's game throughout the world. In Austria we say "Ochs am Berg" (= "Ox on the mountain") or "Donner, Wetter, Blitz" (= "thunder, weather, lightning").
@@bachelorgoosy9145 In Greece it's "Little statues, with no motion, no smile, no speak ... day or night?", same game with a small variation where the players answer "day" or "night" so the guard may turn when they are ready not to move.
It's so weird watching Americans react to that present because their first thought is it's an actual gun. Anywhere else is like, "oh a toy gun... she'll probably not like that".
Well the key hear is that it looks a hell of a lot like a real gun. Unlike other countries the U.S.A allows for a wide variety of firearms to be own by civilians. Especially handguns.
I mean, it make sense. It wouldn't be an interesting series if there weren't life-or-death stakes. Plus American movies/series similar to this show exist like Hunger Games.
In America toy guns need to have a plastic orange ring at the end to identify it’s a toy, not sure about the rest of the world. Also it REALLY looks real.
for purposes of the show, they made the game red light green light but in Korean they are actually saying "무궁화 꽃이 피었습니다" which translates to "the mugunghwa flower has bloomed" which is similar in that players move while the phrase is spoken and must be still before the speaker turns around
Thanks to the editor for including the English [CC] closed captions in the edited TH-cam version(s). I think some people forget that there are viewers that are hearing impaired. I'm from Germany but we also "sing" a little thing instead of just saying "red light green light". With all these reactions I was actually surprised that no American reactors were used to that😂 when I was a child we sang "Ochs' am Berg, dreh dich um" or "rotes Licht, grünes Licht, wer's nicht schafft verdient es nicht" (Bull on the hill, turn around/red light, green light, who doesn't make it doesn't deserve it), and you had to finish "singing" that before you were allowed to turn around. I love how every single one of the human race is creeped out by that loan shark threatening to cut his nose.
I was fine
Its common in asia though not freaked out lol everybody knows how asian loan sharks are

The Blindwave crew is starting Squid game yay!! I already finished it myself I can't wait to see them react to every episode
If they're watching this show, I hope "Sweet Home" could be a reaction series in the future.
As a korean,So fresh to see you guys watching korean drama!Haven't watched yet so hyped for it!
What?! A subbed reaction from the whole crew? Is this a dream?!
I think they've done it for movies before but, it for it being a show give me a world of happiness. Especially if they end up watching DARK.
Been watching Blind Wave for a while, never expected you guys to watch anything in sub. I know you guys said you only do this for live action but I welcome this for any anime potentially in the future.
Been waiting for this!!!!
I was thinking about you guys react to the show a few day ago. didn’t expect it to actually happen but a welcome one.

Finally got around to watching this show last night. can't wait to watch the reactions of future episodes!
I just binged the shit out of this show! Looking forward to your reaction!
Thank you for respecting it and watching with subtitles!

"she pulled that trigger pointing at him" OMG I didn't even think about that! I guess she wasn't happy with the gift 🤣🤣🤣🤣
This is a Netflix production, they didn't just buy an existing show and bring it over. They produced this one.
I’m so glad that you guys are doing this.
This show feels like a live action Hunter X Hunter
SO HYPED FOR THIS REACTION LETS GOOO
hell yeah this is such a good show
I WAS WAITING FOR YOU GUYS TO REACT TO THIS!!
Really enjoying your reaction videos guys. Just to let you know that the Netflix "English [CC]" subtitle is actually terribly translated. Standard "English" subtitle is most accurate translation (I'm Korean and it makes me mad how distorted the "CC" translation is)

The participants' feeding costs after the first game are dramatically reduced.
And if you consider the shit they feed them in later episodes I doubt they spent much on food at all.
