We love going on overnight trains and realised it's been several years since we last did one! So while we were here in the states we thought to take an Amtrak Bedroom suite on the Silver Meteor Route from New York to Miami.

Hi, we are Stephen, Jess and little Hunter, a travelling van life family who self-converted their dream house on wheels - we now live full-time in our Sprinter van called Cooper as we do a full lap of our home Australia.
Where should we catch a train to next?
Take the California Zephyr from Chicago to the Bay Area or the Empire Builder from Chicago to either Portland or Seattle.

Thank you so much for riding with us on Amtrak 💙 I work the portion of railroad between New York and Washington DC and these videos always make my day.
One train trip I highly recommend is taking the Empire Builder from Seattle to Chicago. I recommend the East bound builder, train 8 as opposed to train 7 because you get to see Glacier National Park in the morning daylight. Also on the Amtrak routes west of the Mississippi, full dining service has returned, which means freshly cooked meals, with real silverware and plates.

We are planning a trip on the California Zephyr hopefully for 2023. It got canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic. I am looking forward to our trip on the California Zephyr.

as a dad of two older girls, Hunter makes me nostalgic of when my kids were her age. She is absolutely adorable and made me smile the entire video. Enjoy and cherish these moments while they last, because before you know it they grow up.. Enjoy your trip!
Same!! My daughter is 16 and when she was jumping on the bed in pajamas, I instantly thought of my daughter and cried!! Lol

Why "hardships of travel?"... As long as the parents are happy, excited and relaxed when traveling.. So are the kids. I took my kids all over from babies onward.. They loved trains, planes, boats and automobiles.. And got as excited as us for travel and seeing new places.
Right? I mean look how happy she is!!! She completely loves travelling and spending so much time with her mum and dad! Not many kids get to spend so much time with their parents, Hunter is actually incredibly blessed! 🥰
@@hollystockdesign I didn't mean for it to be a backhanded compliment. (I'm not really good at English). It's just that whenever I travelled with someone under the age of 5, it didn't go well. So, I commented that Hunter looks comfortable with travelling for long time intervals. Anyways, sorry for not putting my thoughts out clearly.
Hunter is a sweetheart. I love the way she says "Wow" and "Yayee". She is such a sport and a good traveler like her Dad and Mom.

Another traveling couple I watch occasionally mentioned months ago that trains were not crowded at all due to covid. I'm sure everybody will be happier when they go back to cooking meals for those who spend the money to stay in compartments. Most likely they didn't offer a discount for only serving microwave food.

So cute. Have to tell you the story of my daughter in the Disney store. Same age as Hunter. My daughter loves Pooh. Lost sight of her for a few moments in the back of the store by the plushies. There's a three foot Pooh on the floor. Couldn't see her anywhere. Panicked searching the back of the store when the cashier from the front leans over the counter and yells 'found her'. And points at the entrance. All we could see was the the three foot Pooh walking out the entrance. She was carrying it on her back and getting out of there as fast as her little legs could carry her!

What a fun adventure for Hunter, she seems to be having a great time! I loved trains since I was probably about her age. I took the Amtrak California Zephyr for 3 days with my dad last month (the video is on my channel!) and it was amazing, he never took an overnight train before and although Amtrak is not a luxury experience it’s definitely one of the best ways to experience 🇺🇸!

It's crazy how this is the first "Flying the Nest" video and now I've just binged-watched almost EVERY SINGLE VIDEO from the past two years. Like, there's just this sense of comfort at watching your vids and vlogs... Your pre-pandemic travel vlogs are not just fun to watch but they're also informative and I really absolutely appreciate how much yall appreciate every single destination. Last week, I watched your Romania vlogs because my mom just recently moved to Romania and now my heart feels relieved and happy that she's in such a beautiful country. The Amtrak Viewliner II has the best bedrooms and roomettes, in my opinion. The sleeper cars are not double stacked so there is more headroom, storage and windows. Although traditional dining (cooked to order, tablecloths, etc.) has resumed on the West coast and some Midwest trains, it is still flexible dining on East coast trains. Not sure why.

I love ❤️ Amtrak 🚆always travel in a sleeper too. Just went to ATL last week. Enjoyed spending time with my family, but the train ride I enjoyed the most because I’m a scenery person. Just love listening to my music 🎶 & watching the view 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Ah, I saw glimpses of my city (Philadelphia) on your ride. I take the train from Philly to NYC often so I know that route well. I do give you guys props for trusting Amtrak on long journeys though. They are wildly inefficient and very expensive compared to other modes of transport. I've done two long journey's with Amtrak and I don't think someone could pay me to do it again, lol.
It is so sad. As with other gooberment entities the oversight and accountability is woefully lacking. If amtrak were a private enterprise they would have folded in the 70's. Some in gooberment will keep throwing our money at it --
Not enough people are aware of what it costs all of us for the few who use it.

What a fun ride! I rode the Silver Star from New York City to Orlando last year. Enjoyed every second of it.

I would recommend doing the California Zephyr from Chicago to Emeryville or Emeryville to Chicago. It’s a beautiful ride going right through the middle of the Rocky Mountains.

The toddler is a joy. She is having and appreciating an adventure.
That's a fun way to travel with a toddler! Not the quickest way to Orlando, but travel and accommodations with nothing to do but relax and play can't be beat. And being able to shower, on the train (!), in the privacy of your own room...wow. Jess' fringe/bangs look great!
