  • The Waaijer spend a white Christmas in Lapland!
We stayed at the Christmas Village near Rovaniemi and then drove up north to Ivalo
The highlights of the video are:
    - Spending time in the Christmas village; feeding raindeers, going on a snowmobile and of course visiting Santa!
    - Seeing the northern lights at 6pm near the village!
    - Driving through magnificent forests and landscapes that just seem out of this world
    - Visiting Riisitunturi national park and Korouoma Frozen Waterfal
    - Having dinner in an Ice Restaurant (OK that wasn't really a highlight, too cold!)
    - Playing in the snow; sledding, sliding off of slopes on tubes and snowball fights!
    - Ice fishing in Ivalo in -25º and then eating reindeer sausages over the bonfire
    - Riding a sled with huskies in front through a beautiful forest and lake. This was THE highlight of the trip
    - Doing some cross-country skiing in Saariselkä Ski Resort and having a great lunch at the top of the mountain
    - Staying in a beautiful AirBnB in Ivalo near a lake - so peaceful.

13:15 Did you know, that there is a 1,5 km long sledding hill from top of Kaunispää fell (where that restaurant 14:00 was) down to the Saariselkä village! And it's free too! :)
Been there many times and have a good food there first and then sledding down to the village. But then there wasn't that cold...🥶

You were so brave in your activities. The trick is always to spend so much time outside in the cold and then to be so happy to come inside, cook, heat and go to sauna. And a remote location like that is always relaxed enough to do things at one's own time.

Absolutely - Lapland is one of the best places to experience what you described. Are you from Finland?

And there is nothing to do when the sun is not up ? Very strange for a Finnish ? One BBC interviewer asked once the Lapp , what are you doing during the midsummer time ? He said : we are fishing and making love . Then ha asked again .....? And in winter time .
The Lapp answered ... not fishing .

you can do the same things when it's dark as what you'd do when the sun is up
