Someone will fill in the details , but the dark haired one had a solo career in Sweden in the late 1960s Benny and the Blonde in a Swedish Folk group, they all met up and went to write an entry for the Swedish Song For Europe Contest, where they came 2nd, not Good Enough. Somehow they met Neil Sedaka and for the following year came up with 'Ring . Ring' which was still unsuccessful as the Swedish panel preferred the folky type stuff, back the year after with Waterloo, which one and became the Swedish Eurovision Entry. The song and the performance blew the audience and europe away and ABBA hit the worldwide stage, Ring, Ring was re-done and issued as the second single and then the new hits went on. They had basically own publishing - Polar and licenced out world wide through CBS, becoming in Value terms only beaten by Volvo Trucks and Cars for the highest earnings year after year into the Swedish Economy.

@@jonaselfstrand4327 I saw an interview with the producers of the stage show Mamma Mia. They said it is actually the harmonies that are secret sauce for the band. Apparently ( I am no singer) they are far more complex than they sound, and really hard to replicate. And one of the reasons when performing live it was nothing for them to have up to 6 backing singers to fill the harmonies out live.

Most songlyrics is by Björn (Bjoern) and the tones and arrangement mostly Bennys. They are as good as Lennon-McCartney-productions. But as Benny and Björn said in interviews.; Nobody thought that pop music could come from Sweden. Many inventions, not only in music, but technology, in the world are born in the old country Sweden. I'm born in Sweden in the mid 40-ies too like Frida , Benny and Björn and listened to them for nearly 60 years. Agneta is born 1950. They are not newcomers in music at all. Benny played in The Hep Stars, Björn in Hootenanny Singers and the girls were vocalists in separate dance bands. Anni-Frid started as a 14-year old girl singinging mostly jazz. Agnetha (Ang-neta) has besides her singing in a band made solo records with her own music and lyrics. But suddenly they all met in the late 60-ies and became ABBA 1972

Haha, the case is the same here.
As a small boy in the 1970s I listened to The Beatles, ABBA (and some classical music, and some 1950s music).
Now sitting here listening to electronic music and some rock music, I can honestly say that I still love ABBA.
The songwriting and performance is so darn good.
I'm actually from Sweden, by the way.
Some other great songs by ABBA (@FortWorthFabian and others):
      * The Name of the Game (superb)
      * Gimme Gimme Gimme! (perfection)
      * The Winner Takes It All (a masterpiece)
      * Eagle (VERY dreamlike and atmospheric)
      * The Visitors (VERY eerie and atmospheric)
      * Summer Night City (great composition, mystical disco)
      Cheers from Sweden!

Sweden is huge in the music entertainment industry. It's one of the top countries with most musical exports. Abba was early but also artists like Icona pop, Zara Larsson, Roxette, Robyn, Ace of base, Europe, Cardingans and Avicii are some of the big musical exports from Sweden. But it's also in the production of music. Some trivia: in may of 2012, half of the top ten songs on Billboard Hot 100 were written or produced by Swedes. More trivia: the Swedish songwriter and producer Max Martin have had over 73 US Billbord Hot 100 top 10 hits (including at least 22 which reached no 1). Sweden have had a big impact on the international (and american) hit scene.
Here are some famous tracks written, co-written and/or produced by Swedes:
    - Baby one more time / Toxic / Piece of me (Britney Spears)
    - Bye bye bye ('Nsync)
    - Starships (Nicki Minaj)
    - Since U been gone / Stronger (Kelly Clarkson)
    - So what, Raise your glass (Pink)
    - Poker face, Just Dance, Stupid love (Lady Gaga)
    - On the floor (Jennifer Lopez)
    - I kissed a girl, Waking up in Vegas, Roar (Katy Perry)
    - Rain over me (Pitbull)
    - It's my life (Bon Jovi)
    - I want it that way / Shape of my hart / As long as you love me (Backstreet boys)
    - Can't stop this feeling (Justin Timberlake)
    - We are never ever getting back together / I knew you were trouble / Shake it off (Taylor Swift)
    - I dont care (Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber)

Henning Andersson, «musical exports».

To give you a picture of how awsome this group was, you have to imagine that Abba found their way up to stardum at a time when Pink Floyd were at their best, and so were the Bee Gees, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and many others. In the 70's, even singers like Bob Dylan made a strong come back. Elton John was at the summum of his art. So for a swedish group (a first in the music world) to find their way and succeed amongst so many celebrities, that was a...miracle really, but they did it.

In Sweden Abba was like a "supergroup". They were all famous individually since mid, late 60s.
Björn and Benny were in two of the most popular groups. They became friends and started writing together making an album with mostly Björn singing and also producing lots of other artists.
Björn had met Agneta and Benny met Frida. The girls started helping them with backing vocals. And after a while they realised who should do most of the singing.

So - ABBA are really back again, both digitally and , maybe more importantly, through people like You Fabian who Today discovers their beautiful music and soul filled performances for the first time! So Glad to see you again, this time with my favorite ABBA song
    "S.O.S." has a story
It was one of his first recordings after the success of Waterloo, just four months later.
But it waited a year for its release
Waterloo needed another theme to confirm the trend and it was not an isolated success or a stroke of luck
ABBA's next three elections failed to stand out
Until finally "S.O.S." have your chance to be a single, and broke the drought, reaching #6 in the U.K. and #15 in the U.S. being their second hit in both countries at the same time
and six #1 and more Top 10 in several countries of all continents
"S.O.S." in less than 200 seconds is a gem, a masterpiece!
The transitions from the dramatic opening (a dingy piano and a cracking Agnetha voice) to a powerful rock beat and catchy chorus are brilliant.
The video is from a presentation in Norway, when ABBA was looking for that second success
The girls' costumes are the iconic blue and gold cat dresses (the colors of Sweden)
ABBA marked an era in many ways One was the musical leadership of its beautiful and lofty female vocalists as the center of attention
Another was the use of contrasts, such as sad lyrics with catchy melodies and harmonies
And their recording tecnique "wall of sound" gives ABBA more powerfull
ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, left an unforgettable mark on several generations
It is good music that lasts and stays alive and well.
Thank you very much for your videos, your sympathy and your love for good music
    See you in another video
    Best regards from
    Buenos Aires, Argentina

OK, I'll try to answer your question: musically, I think ABBA's "S.O.S." is Benny telling us everything he thinks about J.S. Bach. I think it's an example of mid-1970s "monster-rock Baroque," possibly influenced by Wenday Carlos's album of synthesizer Bach, "Switched-On Bach" (1968). Boston's first album is also mid-1970s and shows comparable enthusiasm for Bach ("Foreplay/Long Time"). I loved your comparison of Agnetha and Karen Carpenter. I had not connected those two dots! Yes, both of them combined extremely moving emotionality of performance with great technique, flawless technique. It was great seeing you react so appropriately and naturally to the intoxicating refrain of "S.O.S." Thank you for your video.

Bro, I just found your channel and I love your reaction to ABBA. They take a special place in my heart and are directly connected to my most tender memories of my mom and my aunt. They loved ABBA and they were the soundtrack of her loves and heartbreakings. My aunt tells me that at age of five, born in Brazil, I could sing every one of their songs perfectly even without speaking English or knowing the meaning. SOS is one of my top 5 ABBA songs. I love the drama the piano brings. And Agnetha’s voice is like listening to an angel.

ABBA are immensely talented, the song writing and compositions is second to none. I say ABBA 'are' immensely talented as they began writing more songs back in 2018, the first material they have collaborated on as a group since 1982. They have not released anything yet as there was an Avatar tour planned which Covid obviously impacted on, I also heard there some legal are aspects that needed ironing out too. Nonetheless, it's believed they've written 5-8 new tracks, enough for a new album.
There's plenty of tracks you'll want to listen to, pretty much everything they wrote was fantastic. Personally, I cannot wait for their new material as I grew up loving ABBA in the 70's - Enjoy the ride bro!

Hugh - ABBA Recorded 2 New Songs in June 2017. On Friday 27th April 2018, they told 'The World' about them. Since then, they have Recorded more New Songs. Some say that there are 5 New Songs. Some say that there are 8. Some say an entire New Album. The Global Media, tend to say, that there are 5 New Songs. We are to get 1, (maybe 2), of them in the 1st Minute of Friday 3rd September, with ABBA 'Events' leading up to it, on Thursday 2nd September. They will be at various Cities, around the World. ABBA are calling it all 'ABBA Voyage'. It is all true, and it is really happening. New ABBA Songs, after waiting almost 39 Years since the last New ABBA Single - 'Under Attack' in December 1982.
