- Workers at a hotel for migrants in Midtown Manhattan tell Eyewitness News every day they throw out large garbage bags of free, prepared food.
Felipe Rodriguez, a housekeeper at The Row hotel, showed Eyewitness News videos he has taken of black, contractor-sized garbage bags being tossed that are filled with sandwiches, bagels and prepared meals in to-go containers.
New York City is using the 28-story, 1,300-room hotel located on 8th Avenue at 46th Street exclusively to house migrants -- some of whom are seeking asylum.

I've worked for NYC dept. of Sanitation for 22 years so far. The amount of food I/we pick up from the city's schools is astounding. The amount of food the Synagogues & churches through away is astonishing! Every day for 22 years, I've picked up excess food. There's absolutely no reason for anyone to be hungry in this world! I'm absolutely convinced that Man does not know how to govern Man!

It's so silly. If you deliver 100 sandwiches, and only 5 are eaten, next week deliver 20, and if still only 5 are eaten, deliver 10, and if still only 5 are eaten deliver 5. After just a few weeks, the deliver and the consumption would match.

This is common in most not for profit agencies. They legally can't donate it to other places, because it means they didn't need those resources. Which means they can't ask for more money next year. Its a legal issue, that's absolutely idiotic. It also happens with books, and other resources.

You are right I have seen plenty of store's do the same thing, but now 3 week's before the exspireing date they will donate it to the sinor center so they can have it.
They have big compactor behind the super markets now that they toss it in. In the early 70s my Pop's used to get the vegetables to feed are live stock with the vegetables they would put in the dumpsters. Now it all goes into the compactor where it goes to either recycler or dumps. The good ol memories of the 1970s.
It's the same with the IRS tax code. If a business doesn't spend the money on the tax deduction, they don't get the deduction on their taxes. So the business spends $500 on not needed goods and services to save $1000 in Taxes for a net of $500 additional profit. So the Tax code encourages waste.

I know what’s happening here, someone who is in-charge with coordinating the food supply is getting incentive from the producers. The more this person in-charge orders, the more the city pays, and they get a kickback under the table. And this is the result. There’s too much food.

NYC and Row and other Hotel's Should give a midday Announcement via text, radio and news letting family across the city at certain time of the day they can pick up this food. I guarantee the line will be around the block. The food is perfectly fine. And many people regardless of race will show up to pick up food. Those sandwiches are: tuna, chicken salad, ham and cheese, turkey and cheese, PB&J on wheat bread. And those microwavable containers are healthy food. No salt, no heavy oils etc. Prepared by folks wearing gloves and hair nets. Industrial kitchens. Stop throwing food away. If they won't eat it. Others will eat it. The corner Deli's are charging .75 cent to $1.00 per banana or apple. And yall. Throwing it away. Total mismanagement from the city Admin and Row hotel and other hotels.
I also keep hearing people mention veterans and homeless. There thousands of working families and others who live on a strict budget that can use these meals daily. And three meals a day with fruits and water. Stop blaming Hochul and the Biden this is a total mismanagement from the city Admin part. Those folks are getting paid high salaries. And non have taught of what I just posted.

they eat traditional spanish cuisine i.e. rice/beans/stewed chicken etc. Migrants dont eat bagels and jelly sandwiches- this is an example of culture indifference. The dietician at the hotel should be faulted. Ask the migrants what they eat and prepare that food;tis will prevent waste!
