The gear drive is the way to go. No more tensioner worries. I got rid of my tensioners at 35,000 miles and went gear. The bike now has 192,000 on it with no issues. Good video.

Bob, you are correct, one can do the cam job at home. I did my 03 Dyna TC and my 2017 M8 Ultra Classic last year. They were correct in that the new motors show cam & lifter frosting early. Mine had 30k on it but looked like 100k. Anyways glad you found out what the noise was and got a great upgrade as well.

I have done that job at home, it's not too bad to do and you get harley parts out and throw them in the trash. I never use harley mechanical parts to replace anything. I put a ThunderMax on my bike and couldn't get AFR right. What I found was one of the oem lifters was stuck/frozen fully extended and I had a valve hanging open. Fueling race lifters fixed that. Don't forget the rocker lockers too. They stop the rocker shaft ticking.

I started hearing a noise on my 2001 Road King and thought the worse. I was contemplating placing lockers in the top end or looking at my compensator but it turned out to be loose worm drive clamps on my chrome exhaust pipe covers causing a vibration. Screw driver fix.

The exhaust gaskets are a single go really. Fitting the exhaust properly is a 5 minute job that takes half a day. They are all so different. I have fueling 525 cams. The spring tensioners are in really good shape at 25k on a '99 TC 88 FXDL. Best time to upgrade is before they go bad so planning to do this winter. All the chrome covers need replacing so it's going to be a once in a lifetime refresh.

I had Speed Performance Plus do the cams in my 2001 Fatboy at Daytona a few years ago. They were great to work with and the tune was very good. Got 80 HP out of my stock 88. A couple years later did a big upgrade to a 107 on my own but still stop and talk to Jamie every year just because they're good guys and its fun to see the bikes on the dyno.

Hate to say it but many more issues with the 110 than the HO 103. That's why I got the HO 103 over the 110. The 110 was only $2k more. Thanks for the video! Have to keep putting better parts in those 110s. Don't do stock parts depending....Glad you got the bigger oil pump. Next is to port your heads and you should be good for awhile. I say that because most people put in cams but won't get the full potential without doing the heads. Porting the heads and bigger oil pump will also make it run a tad cooler. S&S and Fueling is the way to go due to bigger orphises. Again, thanks for the video.

@@bobandtams the twin-cam and the milwaukee-eight have tons of very expensive mechanical issues and it just seemed to me like you were trying to defend it by not answering the questions posed. Frankly I don't understand big twin owners if you bought a car with such mechanical issues you would demand a new car to be replaced under the lemon law. I put hundreds of thousands of miles on all of the bikes that I ride and I have never had the amount of mechanical issues even from my British motorcycles which are supposed to be legendary for their unreliability. Big twin owners seem to have the means to throw good money after bad 😞. What I don't understand is that it doesn't seem to FaZe them.

I didn’t see him align the gears on the oil pump, I know on the stock oil pump you have to align them and I think Kevin Baxter on his videos on the S&S oil pump he’s aligned them. If you don’t do this the oil pump gears rub on the inside from being out of alignment and then you get metal shavings in your motor.

@bobandtams I'm doing the S&S pump/plate today. Bob Wood 999-6a cam, lifters, inner bearings, new tensioner.. the works! The cam is a bonus for me, but I've had oil temp issues in the South Florida summer. Did a DK customs remote oil filter, and hi-flo washable filter. It dropped me a good 10-15 degrees but I need more. I was told the new pump/plate with that hi-flow filter alone will solve all my heat issues. And heat does kill power and parts life.

@@bobandtams I'm quick shifting through stop and go traffic. I'll build up to 275-290 degree temps since the remote filter kit. I can still get past 300 if I idle at a light and ride like a speed freak. On the highway now, I'll be averaging 260-275F. To be safe I change the oil every 1500-2000 miles. High heat kills the oil life.

What year is your bike??? I have an 05 (fxdli) with a 95 S&S kit so I figured yours is 06-13 somewhere but my 05 needs a new front head the upper exhaust stud has been replaced 4 times through 2 different exhaust systems and now no type of heli coi or threaded insert will fit cuz the hole is now like a cheap hooker loose and sloppy but they go on eBay from like 160-400$ which sux but better than a new s&s head for $1,300 and I can have both heads matched + ported all together for around $675 total and while I wait I can get to work checking the timing chain tensioner replace it or leave it put my new (rebuilt) starter in while I do that I'll check the primary chain and the clutches and hope/pray that all is well and hopefully by the20th-21st I'll be on my ass riding down the highway (I 95 ) from New England south to wherever it leads me I'm shooting for west Virginia to look at some property but who knows that's kind of the fun of 1-up riding.lmao ya never know what's next. .it's about the journey how ya get there and who ya meet along the way good or bad
