I have made many, many periwinkles as mug rugs. Before the stretch ruler was available, I made very large placemats. I wish the stretch periwinkle had been around because it was very difficult enlarging the periwinkle.
I have periwinkles from the stretch on my design wall. Thanks for the easy way to attach them to my quilt.
Of course, I own all three periwinkle rulers. Thanks for Informative tutorial.

I just love making these periwinkle blocks I have made dozens of the periwinkle mug rugs or whatever you want to use them for. What I'm wondering is is when your sewing the periwinkle onto your 14 inch square are you using any type of a stabilizer underneath? I ask this because I'm wondering if it's puckering or if it's staying very smooth to attach your blocks together. Thank you for doing all of these grade tutorials for us to create.

This fabric is adorable! I've just completed the 25 big blocks, using the Merry and Bright fabric. Because I was not in' thinking mode', but in 'just do what Jenny says' mode, I now realize I should NOT have made 25 of the smaller ones, but just 16. How sad! I could have done so much with the left-over charm squares! Her manner of adding the little ones is spot on, to keep the bulk down. This is the FIRST applique I've done with a sewing machine, instead of by hand. (That's what happens when you give up your 30-year-old mechanical machine for one of the glorified new ones, with actual decorative stitches!) Love Jenny's suggestion to go crazy and try out different stitches on each star. This is a keeper!!!

long edge running along each side and you can get 1 mini from the centre. 36 gives you 24 large p'winkles + 6 small and you can get the last one off the last 6 pieces including rest of the mini's p'winkles.

I really like the look of this quilt design! One thing I worry about with fusible appliqué is too many layers. I would use the “windowing” technique after turning the star right side out, to trim away most of the interfacing (only leaving about 1/2” around the edges). And after sewing the star to the background piece, I’d also carefully trim out most of the background fabric from behind the star shape. This would make it less bulky, which is especially important if hand quilting (and give you lots of nice-sized background scraps if you trim from closer to the edge of the star shape rather than from the centre out). Thanks for this tutorial video, MSQC! ~Diana K.
